His Beloved Treasure

Chapter 2193: Chapter 637: Heart-to-Heart in the Dark (14)

Qin Mu looked at the innocent smiles of the children and, inexplicably, her eyes started to feel moist.

”Mom, when you go back to Paris this time, how often will you come to see us?”

Huanhuan and Chengcheng already knew about Qin Mu leaving, but they took it in stride.

”What do you think?”

Qin Mu held a glass of red wine, but she wasn’t in a hurry to taste the red liquid inside, merely inspecting her daughter’s mischievous eyes with delight.

”Hmm! How about once a week?”

Huanhuan’s eyes flickered, thinking that she and her brother have rest days every week and would like to see their mom then.

”Okay!”

Qin Mu nodded in agreement.

”Can Dad also take us to Paris to see you?”

Chengcheng blinked and asked Qin Mu.

”Your dad is very busy at work, but someone else can take you! You’ll always be able to go if you want to play.”

After hearing her son’s words, Qin Mu furrowed her brows slightly but quickly relaxed and explained to her son with good humor.

”Dinner time!”

Mu Yichen came out carrying the dishes, and Qin Mu glanced over before getting up to help bring out the other dishes.

They even fried chicken legs for the siblings, and Qin Mu sniffed at them, looking crispy and smelling delicious. However, she had been feeling a bit uneasy in her stomach recently and didn’t have much of an appetite. She just thought about how much the pair loved to eat and quickly carried the dish outside.

But she didn’t expect to almost bump into Mr. Mu when she turned around.

Mu Yichen stood there calmly, without retreating.

Qin Mu, however, took a step back, not so calmly, but held the plate tightly in her hands. She looked up at him, stood in a daze for a moment, and then joked, ”You almost scared me to death.”

She quickly ducked her head and slipped past him sideways, while Mu Yichen turned his head slightly and smiled wryly before bringing out the soup.

”Dinner is served!”

Everyone sat around the table, cutlery and chopsticks clinking as they started eating.

Qin Mu sipped her soup leisurely, watching her son and daughter eat.

However, after each had eaten a chicken leg, they stopped and looked at her in confusion.

Qin Mu found it a bit perplexing and asked, ”Why aren’t you eating?”

”Mom, why are you only drinking soup? The teacher said not eating is bad for your health.” Huanhuan couldn’t help but speak out, a bit worried about Qin Mu.

”I’m just drinking soup, how is that dieting?”

Qin Mu said, taking another sip of soup to show she was definitely not dieting.

”Then why aren’t you eating? Dad’s cooking is so good, why aren’t you eating?”

Chengcheng’s little mouth declared with conviction in every word.

Qin Mu didn’t know what to say for a moment, so she served herself some rice: ”Is it okay now?”

”Mom, when you’re not with us, do you not eat well?”

Chengcheng questioned again, slightly disapproving of his mother’s behavior.

Not eating well is not being a good child!

”Except for eating less when I miss you occasionally, I usually have a pretty good appetite.”

Qin Mu explained further.

”Sigh! Adults always tell us kids to tell the truth, but adults don’t like telling the truth themselves, it’s really weird!”

Chengcheng sighed suddenly, with a muffled voice, expressing such thoughts.

Qin Mu...

Mu Yichen raised his eyes: ”Let’s eat before it gets cold!”

”Mom, here’s a big chicken leg for you.”

Huanhuan placed the last chicken leg from the plate into Qin Mu’s bowl.

Qin Mu raised her brows: ”Well, thank you, then!”

”Hehe! If you get fatter, I’ll look thinner than you.”

Huanhuan said with an innocent, smiling face.

”Yesterday Grandma invited that Aunt Chen to our house for dinner again. Sigh! Mom, if you really leave, Dad will give us a stepmother, and my brother and I will be stepmother’s kids, just like Cinderella and Snow White being bullied by a wicked stepmother.”

Qin Mu had just eaten a bit when she heard Huanhuan complain again.

”At least there won’t be a wicked sister and stepsister!”

Qin Mu chuckled, thinking how much these siblings overthink things.

”Mu Chenghuan, to be honest, that Miss Chen seems quite gentle; if she dares to bully you, I’ll be the first to knock her down. Hmph!”

Chengcheng suddenly made a cool gesture and used his hand holding the chopsticks to touch his nose.

Qin Mu...

”Hmph! Do I need your protection? Just don’t cause me trouble, please?”

Huanhuan looked like she didn’t need Chengcheng’s help, fully embodying the attitude of a big sister.

Chengcheng actually felt that his elder sister didn’t need his help; she seemed pretty powerful, so he obediently ate his food.

Qin Mu thought, saying such things about Miss Chen in front of your dad, did you consider how he feels?

She instinctively turned to look at Mu Yichen, with a slightly apologetic smile, saying, ”Kids just say whatever!”

Mu Yichen also smiled faintly, giving her a don’t-worry look.

After dinner, the siblings went to bathe and sleep by themselves, while Qin Mu and Mu Yichen stayed on the sofa for a while. Qin Mu thought about it, feeling it wasn’t appropriate for them to just sit there, so she stretched and yawned before standing up.

”Well, I’m feeling a bit sleepy! I should go to bed!”

Mu Yichen looked at her acting, but didn’t get angry, just gave a soft smile.

Qin Mu lowered her head slightly: ”Then I’m really going to sleep first! Goodnight, Mr. Mu?”

Mu Yichen chuckled lightly: ”Mm!”

Mm?

Qin Mu didn’t know why, but she felt her heart was like a little deer running around anxiously, not with excitement but with nerves, urging her to run.

”What time is your flight tomorrow?”

Just as she was about to walk away, he suddenly asked.

His voice, neither high nor low, added a hint of melancholy.

Qin Mu instinctively looked at him again, her mouth opening several times before she could say, ”Ten thirty in the morning. You’re busy, you don’t need to see me off.”

”What busy? I’ll see you off tomorrow morning.”

Mu Yichen gave a cold laugh, his deep voice declaring, and then he got up and left before she could go upstairs.

Qin Mu stood by the sofa, suddenly wide awake, staring woodenly at the door.

Why did he leave so suddenly?

Without saying a word?

Isn’t that impolite?

But, he does have this old habit, still likes to leave just like that when he’s unhappy...

Is he unhappy now?

Qin Mu’s sight, which had just retracted, involuntarily glanced outward again.

Then suddenly she saw the door being pushed open from outside again.
