Counterfeit Hero

”As for the 19th Group Fleet of your esteemed army...” Yuris smiled wryly and shrugged his shoulders, ”A few minutes ago, the Combat Department reported that the encrypted war report they sent was indeed confirmed to be received by the 19th Group Fleet’s cryptographic device. However, direct communication channels have yet to be established. The specific details of the battle situation are still unclear.”

As he spoke, he gestured towards the communications staff in front of the central computer, whose heads were drenched in sweat, and towards the generals who were pacing like caged beasts behind them, sighing, ”No matter how you look at it, the situation is not optimistic... Once the Douglas Fleet encounters any mishaps, the Southeast Main Channel will open wide, and I fear, it’s up to you, my brother, to step in personally.”

Leefer remained noncommittal, his face still expressionless.

Yuris sighed, glancing at his military watch on his wrist, not noticing the subtle change on the faces of the two major generals standing behind Leefer. Like cold stone statues, their faces had slightly transformed when he spoke the last sentence. Beneath their steely military postures were two pairs of tightly clenched, slightly trembling fists. In those cold eyes, there was a flicker of fanaticism!

”I fear, it’s up to you, my brother, to step in personally!”... They had waited too long for this sentence!

The two major generals stood quietly in the somewhat noisy room. Their burning gaze of adoration was fixed solely on the lone figure at the electronic simulation table, as if he were the only person in the world. The surrounding generals had not deduced Mikami Yuto’s intentions, but that did not mean Leefer hadn’t! In fact, ever since Mikami Yuto mobilized Jiepeng’s Three Great Super Fleets, his intention to assault the Resk Star System had already been seen through by Leefer!

However, Leefer hadn’t spoken, and his core staff, too, maintained silence! They were not traitors; they simply didn’t want this war to drag on indifferently any longer!

This era was destined to be the era of soldiers. Politicians of the peaceful era, the social order and rules of the peaceful era, all should be eliminated. All matters concerning war should be accomplished by military personnel. Those politicians and ordinary civilians would only counteract.

Building a world controlled by soldiers, establishing a new order guided by military personnel, was the dream of all soldiers following Leefer. The Feiyang Republic had already weakened too quickly, just like the military god sitting in the wheelchair, who after his most glorious moment, continued to decline. For this colossal and weakened country to rejuvenate, everything must be shattered to establish new order!

And only Leefer could complete all this!

Yet, Leefer was kept in ice. His troops, just like Feiyang’s most elite forces, were also shelved by those politicians.

It had to be admitted that those braggarts holding the fate of the Republic had exceptionally keen senses. Although they did not know what Leefer and his team intended, still, they preferred to let this tiger sleep rather than release it. Otherwise, why could Admiral McKinley, ranked ninth on the Great General List and second among the Five Tiger Generals, become the Chief of Staff of the Supreme Command, while Leefer was never assigned any position?!

And now, it was the chance for the tiger to leave the cage!

Chuckna’s sacrifice had nothing to do with Feiyang. Douglas’s sacrifice, and even the sacrifice of Qian Bolin’s troops in Resk, were offerings given by Leefer to the Goddess of Victory.

All the soldiers following Leefer would not doubt that under his leadership, the victory they achieved would be tenfold or hundredfold of the price paid at this moment!

They had long been prepared to follow Leefer, to sweep across the world!

”19th Group Fleet communication signal!”

The delighted shout of a communications staff member shattered the oppressive silence in the combat room.

Soon chairs moved and footsteps sounded chaotically, one by one, the senior officers who usually remained composed before their subordinates scrambled like children who saw cake, surrounding the central computer control console completely.

Moments later, as the floating light clusters on the virtual screen slowly solidified, the figure of Douglas appeared on the screen.

”Admiral McKinley, Admiral Leefer... Generals,” Douglas in the image stood at attention and saluted.

”How’s the situation?!” McKinley urgently pressed straight to the point.

”The situation is rather complicated at the moment...” Douglas transmitted a battle report to the command and briefly introduced the recently concluded battle. Finally, he said, ”Currently, the Hanfrey Fleet has halted in place, forming a confrontation with my fleet. Here, I request the next phase of operational guidance from the command.”

Douglas’s voice faded into the silence of the combat room.

The generals stared straight ahead, speechless.

After a long pause, McKinley turned his head, and Yuris and others also turned. Even Leefer, who had remained unmoving at the simulation table, lifted his eyelids. Everyone focused their gaze on one particular face.

A person originally least respected in this command room.

Leray Federation Admiral, Bernadotte.

If it weren’t for Douglas presently in front of them, no one would believe everything was real.

An improvised mixed army actually captured the opposing commander in the decisive battle between the main fleets of two great superpowers, transforming an initially certain-loss battle scenario into what it is now.

Judging from Hanfrey Fleet’s wary behavior, even if they couldn’t annihilate the Hanfrey Fleet entirely, the Feiyang 19th Group Fleet was, at least, not in much danger. Moreover, if managed properly, coercing Hanfrey to order a retreat from the Longbow Star Domain to gain three to five days wouldn’t be impossible!

All of this was accomplished by the Leray fatty, Tian Xingjian, leading a group of Mars’ mixed army?

”Hahahahahaha!”

Suddenly, Admiral Rabinowski leapt high, laughing out loud crazily. His laughter, like festive drums and gongs, instantly shattered the silence in the combat room.

The ecstatic Fei Alliance generals seemed to come alive from their petrification, waving their fists in celebration.

No words could describe their joy and excitement. In five days, no, even just four or three days, the Fei Alliance could complete the assembly of reserve forces, and enter the Resk Battle. By then, even if all Western Alliance fleets poured into Resk, the Fei Alliance needn’t be afraid. As long as the Western Alliance cannot form a crushing Mount Tai-like offensive, and can maintain a stalemate in Resk, this battle can still be fought!

Wars don’t fear consumption, they fear momentary disadvantage.

If the Western Alliance was likened to a flood, Resk would be the dam holding it back. Before this, Fei Alliance underestimated the troop deployment and tactical estimation of the Western Alliance, which led to the Western Alliance forming an overwhelming victory after a surprise attack on Canglang Star. If they couldn’t hold now, then the collapsing Fei Alliance Joint Army would be like a dam breach, uncontainable. The monstrous waves would sweep away everything irrepressibly.

By then, not only would the entire Southeast Star Domain be lost, but Resk would also be announced fallen. The Fei Alliance would have no choice but to retreat. However, this retreat might evolve into a rout. Nobody knows to what position this retreat would lead! If Sobel launched a strong offensive against the Karsdon Star River at that time, even if the Fei Alliance ultimately held out, they would pay an exceedingly heavy price.

But now, the Hanfrey Fleet, originally holding significant strength in this flood, threatening on par with Jiepeng’s Three Great Super Fleets, was unexpectedly made into a stalemate by Douglas and Tian Xingjian’s efforts. The Longbow Star System remained under Fei Alliance control. This means the fleeting opportunity for the Western Alliance could very likely be lost due to Hanfrey’s setback at Longbow.

As long as the flood peak can be held, everything is still recoverable!

This nearly miraculous good news, how could it not make the Fei Alliance generals present ecstatic?!
