Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1292: Chapter 48: Step Forward

”How confident are you?” After looking at the route, Pei Litong and Balmer exchanged glances and stepped forward, standing shoulder to shoulder with Fatty, asking solemnly.

”Half!” Fatty wiped the continuously sweating forehead.

This probability is already the maximum he could calculate. Without Hagrove and the Twelfth Generation Mecha, it would be nearly impossible for one battalion to complete such a task!

He was not unfamiliar with the Jiepeng Royal First Guard. During the days as a mechanic in the Gallipalan Laboratory, he had already learned about this army from the data.

The Royal First Guard is a unit directly controlled by the Jiepeng Royal Family. Its nature is very similar to the Gazalin Mythical Army. It can be said that almost every imperial country in the Western Alliance has such a core force. Their elite status and loyalty form the foundation for the existence and continuation of imperial power.

Unlike the Mythical Army, the Jiepeng Royal First Guard is not merely an army. In fact, it is an Army Group that operates independently of the Jiepeng Military Command System. This group not only includes Jiepeng’s top twenty armored divisions and two group fleets but also includes the Monitoring Bureau, Security Bureau, and the guard troops of the Military Intelligence Bureau.

This is a Fierce Beast nurtured by the Jiepeng Royal Family. Every year, forty percent of Jiepeng’s military budget is devoured by this army, whose total size only accounts for eight percent of the Jiepeng Army. They possess the best ships, the most advanced mechas, and their soldiers are loyal and formidable, making the elite status of this army far surpass the Mythical Army due to the difference in national strength.

The Jiepeng Army’s claim to be the world’s most powerful force is not just self-praise.

In various Western Alliance joint military exercises, this unit rarely suffers defeats; even Sobel has visited the base of the Jiepeng Royal First Guard personally after one exercise to commend them. In the entire Western Alliance, except for the mysterious Night Army of the Binart Empire and the ace 9th Force of the Naga Federation, the Jiepeng Royal First Guard has no rivals.

Especially the first, second, and third armored divisions of the Royal First Guard are renowned as the ace of aces. The First Armored Division has yet to experience any defeat in its hundred-year history.

The unit arriving now is the Second Armored Division, second only to the First Division. Structurally, the units of the Royal First Guard have a larger organization than the military’s armored divisions. This division’s combat units consist of four regiments instead of three, along with an Electronic Camp, an Engineering Camp, a Logistics Camp, and a Special Forces Camp known as Blade!

Attempting to hold off this armored division with the strength of one battalion is akin to dancing on a knife’s edge! The danger here far exceeds his previous experience in Mezrich, where he enraged the entire Hunter Mecha Group with a single mecha.

Damn it, why do such things always happen to me? It’s one thing to have this much responsibility, but if they promote my dual hero status in Leray Chaqna, I’ll probably be finished. With this thought, Fatty secretly glanced at the female photographer... Honestly, her charm is comparable to Fang Xiang’s.

”Half?!” Li Cunxin and Pei Litong shook their heads simultaneously. ”No, it’s too dangerous.”

”Don’t worry,” accidentally catching a glance from the female photographer, Fatty subconsciously puffed his chest, chuckled: ”I might be a rookie in commanding battles, but when it comes to escaping, that’s my forte.”

”Nonsense!” A large hand smacked Fatty’s head, and Li Cunxin angrily said: ”If you’re a rookie in command, wouldn’t that mean you’re saying I’m worse than a rookie?!”

After speaking, the old man fell silent, and the surrounding officers were also left speechless.

The current situation has indeed exceeded expectations. Originally, the reinforcements for Beiguan City were considered in the plan and there were arrangements for intercepting reinforcements, but no one anticipated that what came was one of Jiepeng’s most elite armored divisions.

All these factors combined, resulting in the current critical situation.

Although Fatty spoke lightly, everyone present understood the severity of this game. It wasn’t hide-and-seek; it was a life-and-death pursuit.

Fatty must lead that battalion in escape from the relentless pursuit of an entire division, while not only escaping but also firmly engaging that division in a hit-and-run until the main force reaches Shuangxi Bridge Town and fortifies the defenses there!

Fatty’s decision is the only option right now. And within this only option, he is the only candidate for this task. Reflecting on the journey, without him, this army would have had no choice since Hot Spring Town. Both the 13th Armored Division and 51st Mechanized Infantry Division are incredibly fortunate!

”I’ll help you select personnel!” Li Cunxin turned and walked briskly towards the command mecha. As he turned, everyone noticed the old man’s slightly red eyes.

A few hours later, how many from Fatty’s Suicide Camp will return alive?!

Within minutes, the troops had already assembled.

The battle had ended, and the battlefield gains and prisoner handling were quickly completed. Groups of soldiers and mechas, covered in the scent of gunpowder, gathered from all around to the command headquarters location, standing in front of the command mecha. Felix and Su Fei looked around at the surrounding hills, grass slopes, and forests filled with neat ranks of warriors.

This scene, accustomed as it may be to seasoned warriors, was incredibly striking for Felix and Su Fei, who were stepping onto the battlefield for the first time. Seeing so many soldiers who had just returned from the flames of war, feeling the aura of battle from them, filled their hearts with nothing but shock.

This unit came through the encirclement to arrive here; they had just completely annihilated a Jiepeng Armored Division! Next, they will embark again towards the northeast to a small town named Shuangxi Bridge and face another battle! Meanwhile, some among them will be selected to head north to undertake a near-suicidal mission!

They fight like this.

For ordinary citizens like themselves.

For the freedom and dignity of this nation!

Felix set up the camera and aimed the lens at Fatty’s back. Su Fei didn’t know, but Felix wasn’t unfamiliar with this Leray Federation Hero.

Because of work, Felix often pays attention to the wars in other countries. Especially before the Great War broke out, he had already begun to understand the Leray National Defense War. At that time, the situation in human society was like a powder keg filled with gunpowder, just needing a spark to explode. As one of the few with a clear mind, how could Felix not pay attention to this spark in the Southeast Star Domain?!

Even when standing outside the Command Mecha and not yet seeing Fatty, he had already recognized this voice, vaguely guessing the answer.

Studying the Leray National Defense War, there’s no avoiding this Fatty. Two or three years ago in Leray, recruitment posters with this Fatty as the spokesperson were hung everywhere. This person is the hero in every Leray person’s heart, the most loved Fatty by all Leray people. His battlefield achievements have become the topic that every Leray person still talks about enthusiastically today.

And Felix happens to have several friends in the Leray news industry.

He likes this unique Fatty because this Fatty seems more like an ordinary citizen than a hero. When he hears Fatty and the Old Marshal talking nonsense, the feeling of recognition is especially strong.

From Fatty’s experiences to his personality analysis, and then to his battle achievements, reading along, Felix often feels amazed. In this great era, the impact of a small character on the war has even surpassed many Great Generals.

This isn’t just luck. Just like humans, who are like ants in the eyes of the universe, gradually creating countless great and magnificent projects, this is the path Fatty walked step by step, accumulating small steps to reach distant miles! He is using the strength of a small individual to change his surroundings, thereby changing the whole world.

What most fascinates Felix is how this Fatty, who was timid and cowardly in childhood and adolescence, and seen as somewhat sleazy and detestable by neighbors and classmates, persisted to get to where he is now!

Logically, his personality isn’t fit for war. He should be in the Leray Capital, doing an ordinary job, waiting for fate to arrive. Alternatively, he should be hiding far away, shamelessly stealing chickens in a countryside untouched by war, then chewing on a toothpick, thoughtfully discussing the situation.

But this is the kind of person now standing right before him, standing among tens of thousands of Chuckna Warriors, about to embark on an extremely dangerous mission!

Since he doesn’t want to show his face, respecting his wish, Felix only photographs his back. He believes that at this moment, such a back can also become an idol in the hearts of the people!

”...With the strength of one battalion, to hold off the entire elite armored division of the Jiepeng Royal First Guard, I know this is an almost impossible mission.”

In the jungle, Li Cunxin’s resounding voice echoes.

The old man looks around, shouting passionately: ”But Chuckna does not have cowards! Those willing to follow Major General Tian Xingjian, step forward!”

Wow! As soon as his words fell, the Mecha Warriors around them all stepped forward in unison!

The scene before them surprised Felix and Su Fei. They listened dully to the intense and orderly footsteps; the sound was so loud, so heart-shaking!

No one steps forward because the entire unit is moving!

Passionate blood suddenly surged up Felix and Su Fei’s heads.

The camera in Felix’s hand shook slightly, Su Fei held the little kid tightly, biting her lips hard. In these few short hours, she had been moved immensely. This is war, this is men in wartime!

”Good, good!” The old man desperately nodded, his body slowly turning in place twice, his gaze scanning each of the warriors: ”All good ones! All my fine soldiers!” he suddenly raised his head, his powerful voice nearly uncontrolled, echoing across the mountain terrain: ”I am proud of you!”

”Roll call!”

”Sir!” Pei Litong stepped forward: ”Anthony.....”

”First Battalion, First Company, Third Platoon!”

”First Battalion, Second Company, First Platoon!”

.......

The winter sun slowly rises, its golden rays pouring into the valley, penetrating the forest. Fatty stands silently, watching each Chuckna Warrior step out of the formation with the roll call, in a daze, he recalls Leray, those steadfast figures.
