Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1266: Chapter 40: Dawn (Part 1)

”Do you think we can achieve victory?” Felix, with deep brown eyes and gray hair, asked while standing beside the high quay railing.

Towering into the clouds with a total of more than ten levels, each level spaced two to three hundred meters apart, the giant dock looked like a massive vortex. Uncountable Mechas, transport vehicles, and soldiers were busily moving around the dock. One warship after another was slowly detaching from the quay tractor, ascending into the sky and hovering like giant cities in space.

”I’ve never doubted.” Su Fei leaned against the railing, watching a shuttle traverse the busy airways, flying in this direction. The wind blew her long hair, gently stirring the hem of her flowing dress, making her appear like a celestial being.

”I once didn’t doubt...” Felix, over fifty, sighed lightly. As he furrowed his brows, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes seemed to deepen greatly. Looking at the warships floating above the horizon, he sighed, ”But, once I knew Marshal Li Cunxin’s life status was uncertain, I lost faith in the military.”

He looked at Su Fei, speaking sharply, ”You all couldn’t even protect your father.”

Su Fei fell silent. Using ’father’ to describe Li Cunxin’s status in the Chuckna Military was fitting. Felix’s style was straightforward. He pointed out issues bluntly, sarcastically, never bowing to anyone or any power. Moreover, everyone acknowledged he was a true patriot, his sharp words often cutting his own heart.

It was precisely his sharpness and passion that made audiences love this old man to the bone, earning him the title of champion host for current affairs talk shows for fifteen consecutive years.

”We have no intel confirming the Marshal’s death,” Su Fei didn’t want Felix’s skepticism to dominate this joint broadcast, she said lightly, ”If the Jiepeng people had captured or killed the Marshal, they would eagerly reveal it to the public. That would be a major victory for them, yet until now they haven’t announced anything.”

A moment of silence. Su Fei turned her face away, knowing that on that corpse-laden planet, her judgment was merely self-deception.

”Is this our last hope,” Felix sighed deeply. The shuttle had already docked at the passageway, two officers, wearing Space Navy uniforms, competent and spirited, were walking this way.

Felix picked up his luggage and said to Su Fei, ”Trust me, I, like you, hope your judgment is correct. Behind us, all the Chuckna citizens share the same hope. Now, let’s uncover the answer.”

”We are about to depart...”

On the dock’s public screen, the figure of Military Department’s Admiral Li Hongwu appeared. This Chuckna Admiral had a face identical to his father Li Cunxin. Square, resolute. Following in his father’s footsteps, he earned everyone’s respect through his abilities and character. This time, assaulting Resk, he is the Allies’ primary commander.

The busy dock quieted down, people seeing off and busy soldiers all stopped, lifting their heads to watch the public screen, listening to Li Hongwu’s voice.

”...departing from the Long March Star System. This is a new long march. We will fly to Resk to fight the invaders. It’s our land, our people are there. We are prepared for sacrifice, ready for victory. Never-been-conquered Chuckna will not be conquered this time either. I assure you, as long as we have one last person, one last breath, we will fight on.”

On the screen, Li Hongwu took a deep breath and said word by word, ”Bless the ancestors of Chuckna, warriors, it’s time for us to set off!”

Long live Chuckna!

Among the tidal roar, Su Fei and Felix entered the shuttle. The heavy door slowly closed before them. The tide-like sound waves were isolated outside the door; through the porthole, one could see the impassioned warriors, the crowd waving hands, and tearfully saying goodbye. The shuttle detached from the quay tractor, drifting away.

On the giant screen, Li Hongwu saluting the people, gradually receded.

Finally, the entire dock turned into a small anthill. The clouds drifted, a moment later, all around was azure blue. The boundless starry sky rushed in, numerous warships converged into space from various planetary locations.

”Bless the ancestors of Chuckna.”

Su Fei gently leaned her head against the cabin door, praying.

Time passed by second by second.

Pei Litong fixed his gaze on the SkyNet screen, anxiously waiting. Every time his gaze swept across the simulation plan on the screen, a fierce heartbeat followed.

Since the forces decided on the strategy to advance north to Beiguan City, three echelons have started this extremely adventurous journey along different routes. He didn’t know whether his and Balmer’s choices were right or wrong, but having come this far, there was no turning back.

The entire operational plan and each step of the simulation was completed by Fatty.

Despite countless reviews of this operation plan, despite knowing every step, every change in the plan by heart, whenever he rereads the plan, he always feels a palpitating sensation, and an irresistibly stunning feeling.

Pei Litong had never seen such a comprehensive operation plan. Every simulated change was considered. All conditions were fully utilized. Like a master player in a risky strategy, knowing the strategy is dangerous, with any error leading to eternal damnation, but the laying out and executing have been as steady as Mount Tai.

Twelve hours ago, the troops gathered and set off.

Eight hours ago, three columns advancing in different directions simultaneously launched attacks on three small towns occupied by the Jiepeng people. The battle, from start to finish, lasted no more than half an hour. The enemy troops stationed there were utterly defeated under our forces’ meticulously surgical strikes according to the combat plan.

Given that the largest Jiepeng forces stationed in the small towns were merely an infantry regiment, the battle can only be described as a crushing defeat, without much to be glorified.

The only notable aspect is that before the battle commenced, all the steps had already been rehearsed in the simulation program.

Paths of attack, timing, firepower coordination, routes of interspersion, details of encirclement and ambush... everything was included in this pre-war simulation. All the warriors needed to do was to advance according to the plan, continuously advancing. Once the plan was completed, victory arrived as expected. This feeling of having everything under control was exhilarating.

The three attacked towns were carefully chosen. All three are located near the Tiklar Mountains and are among the more than ten small towns where the Jiepeng people carried out massacres.

On the surface, attacking these three towns seems like retaliation, but in fact, it is a profound deception.

The attack not only confuses the Jiepeng people about the main forces of the Chuckna Army’s location, but also lures them to focus on the common feature of the three towns—the Tiklar Mountain Pass not far from the towns!

Heading south seems to be the unavoidable judgment for the Jiepeng people.

At the same time, the attack on these three small towns acts like three fragrant lingzhi, attracting surrounding snake groups to change their original paths and converge here. This provides the Chuckna Army with ample time and space to carry out the insertion.

Six hours ago, the troops began the insertion maneuver.

After losing SkyNet, the Jiepeng people, in the darkness, were maneuvered by an invisible hand. They could never dream that within the time lag of their communication with the rear command, within just a few kilometers of the mountain area on their rapid march towards the attacked area, more than 30,000 Chuckna soldiers had quietly passed by them.

This is a genius and wild operation, and now it is the critical moment to determine its success or failure.

Taking out the two divisions on the outskirts of Beiguan City will leave Beiguan City as exposed as a naked woman, opening her allure to the Chuckna Army.

Thinking about winning this battle and all the subsequent events makes Pei Litong’s breath heat up.

As a soldier, living in this grand era, who does not want to achieve military glory! They’ve fought tough battles before, and enjoyed invincible glory. Yet, such an outlandish battle as this is a first.

Venturing into Beiguan City alone, locking up twenty to thirty divisions in the Northern Mountain Region, by the day the Alliance forces counterattack, it will be a great victory! Originally just a daydream, but now it is on the verge of becoming reality. Nothing could be more exciting. In this era, no soldier would back down at this moment.

Let what comes, come! To fight this recklessly bold battle is worth it, even if it means death!

”General! The first echelon has completed their task! Now, the Jiepeng Army 221th Armored Division is launching an attack on the Flyns Agricultural District,” the combat staff reported loudly in the dull Command Mecha.

”Understood!” Pei Litong clenched his fist hard, suddenly stood up, and looked around: ”Did you all hear that?!”

”Heard it!”

The officers standing around were already eager to try. Upon hearing Pei Litong’s words, they all shouted in unison.

”Twenty days ago when we began our retreat, I never expected this day,” Pei Litong gritted his teeth, forcing out the heartfelt words one by one: ”A few days ago when we were blocked at Hot Spring Town, I also didn’t expect this day! But now, this opportunity is right before us! A chance to succeed or die for the cause, rests on this moment.”

His hand clenched into a bluish-white fist: ”The combat plan is already as detailed as it can be. General Tian has considered all possible changes. Now, all we need to do is fight! Go, it’s our time to shine! Don’t let our Leray Allies look down on us!”

”Yes!” The officers immediately straightened up in salute, turned around, and left. In their vigorous postures, there seemed to be endless energy, waiting to be unleashed at this moment!

”Boom!”

A distant rumbling explosion echoed like thunder among the mountains.
