Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1295: Chapter 49: Assessment (3)

At this moment, Hastings unexpectedly stopped alone in front of him to have a conversation, causing those nearby to be inexplicably surprised, even Bernadotte himself was somewhat astonished.

”That kid did a great job.” Hastings’ words made those beside him look at Bernadotte in a completely new light.

Which kid would Hastings refer to in such a manner?!

”Once the front line stabilizes, arrange for him to come back,” Hastings smiled and tightened his grip on Bernadotte’s hand: ”I want to meet this Leray Hero who constantly surprises us. His performance has already won me over.”

Saying this, as if oblivious to the generals’ expressive faces around him, Hastings turned his head smilingly and asked Admiral McKinley, who was closely following beside him, ”What’s the situation on Canglang Star now?”

McKinley bent slightly and reported, ”A bit of a situation emerged. Originally, there was no objection from Admiral Li Hongwu’s command center regarding the plan, but according to the latest intelligence, after destroying the enemy 231st Armored Division, the 13th Armored Division and the 51st Mechanized Infantry Division led by Marshal Li Cunxin suddenly split their forces. The main force moved towards Shuangxi Bridge Town as planned, while an armored camp moved north to Beiguan City.”

”Oh? Splitting forces?” Hastings was slightly puzzled; he had scrutinized the Northern Mountain Region map repeatedly, and the entire terrain was imprinted in his mind. Shuangxi Bridge Town was undoubtedly the gateway to block Jiepeng Forces in the Northern Mountain Region from retreating to Beiguan City. As long as that location is held, coordinated with four nearby landing points, Jiepeng Forces would absolutely have no other exit in terms of time or spatial commerce.

Logically, at this time, Li Cunxin shouldn’t split his forces. A whole armored camp constitutes a significant portion of combat power for this force right now, and furthermore, marching north from the battlefield east of the Flyns Agricultural District for sixty kilometers requires detouring via Beiguan City’s East Suburb. There’s no significant strategic target there. Even if there is, what can a camp do? Holding Shuangxi Bridge, two divisions could at least sustain for three days. It wouldn’t even need three days, just a few dozen hours, and the battle would be won!

”Why split the forces?” Hastings frowned.

”Enemy troops in Beiguan City mobilized, and very swiftly.” McKinley answered, ”Enemy forces appeared less than forty kilometers away just as Marshal Li Cunxin’s group completed the battle. Moreover, it’s Jiepeng’s finest, the Royal First Guard Second Armored Division.”

”Ah!” Margaret, behind Hastings, let out a low exclamation.

Hastings’ expression turned solemn.

”They plan to use the force of a camp to hold off the Jiepeng 2nd Armored Division?”

”Yes.” McKinley nodded. This nearly reckless scheme had already caused great controversy in the command before Hastings arrived. Many generals were fiercely opposing it. The risk of the plan was too high; using a camp to hold off an entire elite armored division from Jiepeng, if there’s a misstep, the situation could sharply deteriorate, potentially impacting the entire Allies’ counteroffensive plan.

There are opponents, as there are supporters.

This force has already worked miracles as they advanced along the path. And their three-way northern insertion amid intense encirclement was originally an adventure! Yet, they succeeded. Besides, that armored camp only needs to hold the enemy division for a few hours. Once Shuangxi Bridge Town’s defense line is constructed, with the manpower of two divisions and cooperation from the aerial support, not only an armored division but even if the top five armored divisions of the Royal First Guard were pulled in, they could support until the entire landing operation plan is completed.

”Who is leading this armored camp’s command?” Hastings asked, his eyes directly turning to Bernadotte.

Indeed, McKinley’s answer confirmed his prediction: ”It’s Leray Major General Tian Xingjian.”

Hastings indifferently patted Margaret’s hand clutching the wheelchair, whose hand had turned white from exertion, and nodded slightly.

He came here for the right reasons.

Only, facing this severe examination, which even he as an examiner hadn’t anticipated, would this candidate stand out or vanish within this vast era.

To use a camp’s manpower to restrain a whole armored division, and it’s the highly combat-capable Jiepeng Royal First Guard elite.

This guy, is he really as timid and fearful as the intelligence departments suggest?

On Canglang Star, he didn’t need to be so desperate. What exactly is he up to? Perhaps, the reason he’s acting this way is because he has a plan beyond what I’ve imagined.

What variables lie in the future, can I still witness them in my lifetime?

Ten fighter jets, divided into five formations, entered the atmosphere from space.

The sky here was still dominated by night, while the arc-shaped distant earth was already pulling a golden arc line thick in the middle and thin at the wings with sunlight. The mountains, rivers, and jungles ahead were beginning to awaken.

”Accelerate!” Under the command of the lead aircraft, the group abruptly accelerated, plunging towards the rolling cloud waves. The fighter jets’ speedometer had already exceeded the range limited by the dangers of air friction upon entering the atmosphere. Nevertheless, these aircraft showed no regard for safety. The pilots tightly pursed their lips, their eyes resolute.

Time! In the light of that dawn, there’s an armored camp fighting to earn time for everyone. The current time is so precious, not only for this air-based fighter squadron but also for numerous similar fighter formations, space fleets, giant transport ships commencing their descent, and the army mecha lined up ready to rush towards their destination the moment the hatch opens!

Everyone has been mobilized by the armored camp at the vortex’s center, stirred by the fiercely constructing defenses at Shuangxi Bridge Town. Wasting any second is a crime against those partners who exchanged their lives for a chance.

The fighter jets screech, passing through the clouds, and diving towards the alarm-ringing Jiepeng Base!

.Well, because I don’t want anyone to misunderstand me for padding with word count and dragging out the scene, I must say this once, and won’t ramble on hereafter.

This book is about warfare. The climactic parts and buildup parts are completely different from those in upgrade-and-fight books. Therefore, during the buildup, it’s essential to lay the groundwork, and conveying the plot within the buildup is the most economical approach for such books. In such Chapters, please pay closer attention to the information volume, feel the emotional mobilization and anticipation. The climax of such books can’t be like personal combat books, just fighting whenever. Moreover, without these explanations, the sudden appearance of the command and Hastings during the climax would seem incomprehensible.
