Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1254: Chapter 35: Ruthless Trap_3

On the rooftop, the night wind was fierce. The lights painted the faces of dozens of Jiepeng officers with shades of blue and white. In front of them was a wide platform, with the railings at the platform’s edge hidden in the darkness. Looking past the figure standing beside the railing with hands behind their back, one could see the flickering lights of Beiguan City’s entirety.

This Chuckna city was now under their feet. They had taken control of the city but had not completed the final conquest. Thinking of the Chuckna Forces that had been driven to the brink but managed to escape the encirclement and slip into the Northern Mountain Region. Thinking of the increasingly rampant resistance across Canglang Star due to this escape. Thinking of those laughing Chuckna people amidst the city’s lights, waves of shame, anger, and resentment churned within the chests of these Jiepeng Nobles.

Just as the Prince had said, Jiepeng had been waiting for this day for hundreds of years. The wishes of fathers and grandfathers had now accumulated into a divine spirit floating above Jiepeng. Three generations fortunate enough to experience this grand era, to personally lead Jiepeng’s armies into battle, fulfilling the dreams of past generations—a glory worthy of sacrificing life!

Just sacrifice, that’s all it takes, just sacrifice!

The officers’ gazes turned to two officers standing by, their shoulder insignias removed, faces ashen. Some, consumed by emotion, could hardly restrain themselves from stepping forward to rebuke.

”At home, Your Majesty the Emperor governs diligently day and night, the Foreign Affairs Ministry tirelessly traverses the four corners, the citizens gather throughout the night in united prayer, all for the sake of this battle,” Bobett’s voice, icy and penetrating, broke the long silence in the darkness. ”On Resk, General Mikami Yuto has achieved phased success in the offensive against Leifeng Star.

Now, under the assault of our Alliance Fleet, the Fei Alliance Fleet can only retreat in defeat. All space ports and interstellar points surrounding Leifeng Star have entirely fallen into our hands. Meanwhile, our Army on Leifeng Star is fighting to the death to establish absolute advantage before the next move of the Fei Alliance!......”

”General Mikami took this planet and handed it to you.....” Bobett turned, his eyes like two gleaming blades in the dark, piercing the two standing accused officers: ”What excuse do you have for suffering such disgraceful defeat?!”

Amidst the silence, Bobett’s eyes flickered coldly at the two officers: ”An encirclement as tight as an iron barrel, yet allowing the enemy to smoothly relocate and break through within a range of several hundred kilometers. Two Armored Groups guarding the position, yet letting a group of infantry rout them, not only clearing a path but also losing their base and supplies, nearly beyond salvage.....”

The face of one officer hung low, ashen as earth, stammering: ”Prince, the enemy wasn’t only infantry; they had an Armored Group too, and even ten Super Mechas. We fought with everything we had but couldn’t manage.......”

Oono Hayato, standing beside this officer, shut his eyes, unwilling to gaze any longer upon this foolish idiot.

”Finished explaining?”

Bobett’s icy voice echoed in his ears.

”Your Highness, what I said....”

”No need to say anymore.....” Bobett’s voice carried a hint of malice: ”Throw him down.”

”Your Highness... Your Highness..... Have mercy.... Your Highness...”

The voice of the Major who lost Hot Spring Town gradually faded away in his ears, each step farther increasing tenfold in a shrill cry of descent, ultimately turning into a wretched scream as he plummeted downward.

The cry echoed on the vast rooftop before disappearing without a trace. Though no one heard the sound of a body hitting the ground, everyone present could imagine the scene of free fall from over a thousand meters up.

Even strong-willed as Oono Hayato couldn’t help but shudder.

The only one left to face judgment now was him!

”From the enemy’s breakthrough of Hot Spring Town, it’s already been a full forty-eight hours,”

No emotion could be detected in Bobett’s voice, as if he had just ordered a doll thrown away.

”In these forty-eight hours, the frequency of attacks against us across Canglang Star has increased fiftyfold. And that army, hidden in the western mountain region, has successively attacked three towns, intercepting a mass of supplies, with thousands upon millions of resistors joining along the way..... Hmph, they’ve become heroes and spiritual pillars for all the Chuckna people!”

”Your Highness!” Several agitated officers from the Monitoring Bureau stepped forward sharply.

Bobett stepped slowly out of the shadows, his gloomy face gradually revealed in the light. He gestured to stop the fervent requests of his overzealous subordinates: ”According to intelligence, Fei Alliance’s counterattack is impending, and we must completely control this planet within forty-eight hours. This place is our advance base; nothing can be lost. I will personally command this battle.”

He approached Oono Hayato, spoke lightly: ”Major General Oono, I have a task for you, is it alright?”

”Me?!” Oono’s heart trembled violently; in the next moment, his mind was completely overtaken by gratitude and joy. He fell to his knees: ”Your Highness, please command me, I will use my life to fulfill your order.”

”I will bait him myself, and you need to clear out all the towns west of Beiguan, anger him, and bring him to meet me.” Bobett sneered, heading to the transparent glass staircase of the rooftop.

With his understanding of that individual, he was sure that person would take the bait.

A pacifist who cherishes life should not be involved in the game of war.

This is my home field!
