Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1258: Chapter 8-37: Target, Popping Sobor’s Chrysanthemum

No one knew how much time had passed.

Until the two of them, hand in hand, walked out of the dense forest and water pool, and sat by the lakeside where the Mecha was parked, snuggling in Fatty’s arms, Milan’s pretty face was still flushed with a captivating blush.

She lazily held Fatty’s left hand, counting his five fingers foolishly. Counting back and forth, finding endless joy in the repetition. It seemed like a game full of flavor. Whenever Fatty’s right hand mischievously wandered over her, she’d lightly bite her lip, her eyes sparkling like stars, casting a shy and enchanting glow that seemed almost liquid.

”Fatty...” Milan’s voice was devoid of strength: ”If only we could stop the war now, how wonderful it would be to live here forever.”

”Yeah!” Fatty’s voice was even weaker than Milan’s, like a candle burning low on its remaining wick.

”You idiot!” Milan, both shy and angry, grabbed Fatty’s hand and gave it a gentle bite, her face blushing red. She cursed, ”Hmph, last time you spent the whole day with Bonnie at the hotel, why didn’t you look half-dead then!”

”Hehehe...” Fatty suddenly revived, bursting into a silly laugh.

When a woman is jealous, logic goes out the window. Even though Milan and Bonnie had long accepted each other, close and inseparable, it didn’t stop Milan from venting her feelings.

Cuddling together, they watched the tranquil lake where a fish occasionally flipped, creating small splashes. The ripples spread, stirring the reflected blue sky, white clouds, green trees, and hills, filling their hearts with tranquility and peace.

”I wonder when this war will end?” Milan sighed softly.

”Not much longer now.” Fatty stared at the lake, tightening his arm around Milan instinctively and said, ”As long as we win the Resk Battle and take down Suss and Jiepeng, we’ve won more than half the battle.”

”More than half?” Milan looked up, puzzled: ”The Binart Empire and Naga Federation are the Western Alliance’s two major powers, and then there’s the Desic Empire!”

”The Desic Empire is already on its last legs. If Suss and Jiepeng are defeated, we won’t even have to fight; they’ll be scared to death!” Fatty rarely discussed these matters with others, but since the topic was started, he spoke without reservation, dismissively adding: ”How many times have we fought with the Desic Empire, and when have they ever profited from us?”

Fatty picked up a stone, threw it into the lake, creating a splash, and watched the ripples spread, continuing: ”There’s nothing to fear from the Naga Federation either. They’re lifelong enemies with the Ryan Republic. Last time, if it weren’t for the Binart Empire’s intervention, the Catalonia Star System would have been captured long ago... the Fei Alliance’s true opponent has always been just one, and that’s Sobel!”

”Sobel...” Milan whispered the name that instilled dread throughout the Fei Alliance. That name stood for military wisdom on par with Hastings, and represented the Binart Empire’s overwhelming warships and tidal waves of armored forces. Each mention exerted extreme pressure.

As she pondered, Fatty blurted out, ”One day, I’m gonna bust his ass!”

Milan giggled, pinching Fatty’s waist hard: ”Fatty... if you dare, you’ll never touch me again!”

Fatty, his eyes screwing up from the pinch, begged for mercy: ”Auntie, be gentle. I didn’t say I’d use your most beloved treasure to do it, I meant I’d use a gun...”

Milan, overwhelmed with embarrassment, began pounding Fatty with her fists like raindrops: ”What ’my most beloved treasure,’ you fat rascal! Bust... whatever, where did you even get such filthy habits...”

They laughed and teased each other. After some time, when quiet returned, Milan lay in Fatty’s arms and asked, ”Fatty, seriously, when can we return to Leray?”

”Feeling homesick?” Fatty gently nuzzled Milan’s hair with his chin.

”Yeah,” Milan curled up like a kitten, softly saying, ”My parents are in Gallipalan, and things aren’t good there right now, I’m scared...”

”They can’t break into the Newton Star System, don’t worry,” Fatty reassured her: ”After the Resk Battle, the Southeast Star Domain will be ours. Then, we can go back to Leray...”

He looked down at Milan: ”A Leray without war!”

”Really?” Milan, overwhelmed with joy, stared at Fatty with her heart skipping faster.

Milan never doubted Fatty. She trusted him like she trusted science. To this pure-hearted girl, Fatty was the most important and fundamental scientific principle in her life!

If Fatty said there would be no war in Leray, then there’d be no war in Leray!

Fatty nodded earnestly.

Milan laughed, giggling out loud.

The girl’s laughter bloomed like flowers, starting from her slightly crinkled sharp little nose, lifting the corners of her mouth into a cute curve. When she habitually covered her nose with her hand out of happiness and surprise, every strand of her hair swayed with the most natural and beautiful vitality and joy from deep within her soul.

”Fatty, if you dare lie to me, you’ll be dead!”

The girl wrapped her arms around Fatty’s neck, pressing her nose against his face, giggling continuously.

Milan was so joyful.

Four years of war had long worn her out from the inside.

She didn’t know when the war would end, and perhaps this question was the one most frequently asked by girls of her era. Unlike them, Milan knew the answer.
