Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1297: Chapter 51: Vego

Zack Fego furrowed his sword-like eyebrows slightly, carefully examining the intelligence just relayed from the front. His slender, fair fingers habitually tapped lightly on the Mecha control panel.

Several field officers stood respectfully to the side, keeping their eyes fixed on this young Division Commander.

Fego is twenty-two this year. Few believe that this fiercelyly handsome and elegantly poised young man became the highest commander of the Second Armored Division at the age of twenty!

The officers couldn’t recall how many times they had followed Fego and seen others show surprised looks. Because of Fego’s youth, because of their deference, and because of the Second Armored Division’s insignia of twin wolves, sandy vines, shield, and sword on their uniforms.

In the glorious Jiepeng Army, being called elite is not something said casually.

As the core force of the Royal Family, the Second Armored Division is known as the elite among the elite!

In this division, there are no inexperienced recruits. Each warrior has been strictly selected, emerging from countless outstanding soldiers as seasoned veterans! The name of the Royal First Guard is built on the battles fought by the top five divisions over many years. Their achievements are the cornerstone of the Jiepeng Army’s greatest reputation!

Describing the Second Armored Division as an arrogant and brave force could not be more appropriate. To command such a group of warriors and issue orders in the face of their disdainful gazes seems beyond what a twenty-year-old youth could achieve.

But Zack Fego did it.

Within three days of being ordered to become the divisional commander of the Second Armored Division, his orders were already freely executed throughout the division, and within a week, the entire division had become a pack of fierce hounds under his command!

He used not his somewhat declining noble lineage to conquer his soldiers, but his graduation grades from the Military Academy at eighteen, his strong command prowess, and his impressive hand speed of sixty movements per second!

Fego is the first Level 10 Mecha Warrior since the improvement of Jiepeng’s Mecha control close combat technology!

Under the officers’ awed gazes, Fego repeatedly pondered the intelligence in front of him.

Ten kilometers away, the First Battalion from the leading front group was attacked twenty kilometers northeast of the Flyns Agricultural District; a reconnaissance team signal disappeared after several intense explosions two or three kilometers away. Now, the First Battalion halted its advance, deployed a battle formation, and sent two reconnaissance teams to investigate.

The fate of the 231st Division is undoubtedly bleak. What confuses Fego is why the enemy appeared in the northeast of the Flyns Agricultural District, not the northwest!

Fego’s fingers tapped one after another on the metal panel of the control console. He couldn’t deny that what was in front of him was a team underestimated by all Jiepeng people, including Prince Bobett.

Thinking about that serious face when Prince Bobett issued orders, Fego’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Following the Prince since the age of sixteen, this is the first time he has seen this figure, akin to a father or brother, so worried.

The Prince made a serious mistake.

To force out this team, he spared no effort in ordering a massacre, deploying heavy forces of thirty divisions to surround the entire Northern Mountain Region.

He once predicted possible reactions from this team and even prepared to use himself as bait in Beiguan City, but when the team consecutively attacked the garrisons in the towns closest to the Tiklar Mountain Pass and quickly disappeared, he made a wrong judgment, overlooking the cunning and boldness of this team.

Analyzing previous intelligence, Fego concluded that this team has not been commanded by Chuckna generals like Li Cunxin or Pei Litong since breaking through Hot Spring Town. The commander should be that Leray Major General that the Prince has always been concerned about.

The data on that Fatty shows that as early as two years ago, he once ventured a thousand miles alone to assassinate Stephen, the Third Prince of Gazalin.

To infiltrate this place with astonishing maneuvering and fight desperately is typical of Leray people! When fighting hard, they especially enjoy pulling down a few with them. Known for their economic prosperity, Leray people do not engage in losing battles even in warfare.

In Bermuda, Jiepeng soldiers numerous times witnessed Leray people with nonchalant faces doing just that. Three million Leray soldiers died in battle, resulting in severe damage to Suss and Jiepeng, as well as Gazalin’s fall. According to statistics, the Western Alliance seized the Leray Central Channel paying at least twice the price Leray did.

Meanwhile, the Prince also overlooked the probability of Fei Alliance Joint Army landing on Canglang Star!

The only one who might have seen through this was General Mikami Yuto.

This Jiepeng great general, with sparse yellow hair and a stature like an immature adolescent, never expressed a word of dissent regarding Prince Bobett’s decisions, while continually commanding forces to aggressively attack the Fei Alliance Joint Army’s defenses on Leifeng Star, he discreetly redeployed the entire Thunderbolt Super Fleet back to Canglang Star.

However, General Mikami Yuto is ultimately not a deity. Even ensuring safety on Leifeng Star, he made almost foolproof preparations for the Canglang Star Headquarters. Yet at the critical moment, the previously elusive Qian Bolin Fleet stealthily gathered and advanced ahead into the Canglang Star System!

”General,” a Major received a file from a staff member and handed it to Fego, bowing, ”This is a document just transmitted from Headquarters... Headquarters assesses that the Fei Alliance Joint Army is likely to use this team to block our divisional retreat route, collaborating with multiple landings to encircle and divide our forces.”

Vego took the document, glanced at it indifferently, and tossed it onto the console, a slight contemptuous smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

The officers beside him exchanged glances, filled with awe and admiration.

The judgment made by the headquarters’ staff department was two hours late compared to Vego. If not for Vego immediately meeting with Prince Bobett after learning that the 221st and 231st Divisions had lost contact, the Second Armored Division might still be stuck in Beiguan City by now! More importantly, Vego looked beyond the panic and concern all over the staff department’s documents!

This is a huge crisis, but at the same time, it’s also a huge opportunity!

Vego’s fingers tapped increasingly faster on the console.

He ignored the exchanged glances of the officers beside him. Whether it’s a crisis or an opportunity, it was now in his hands! As long as he could seize this force, entangle them and let the already retreating friendly forces successfully fall back to Beiguan City. This would break the situation!

By then, the Fei Alliance Army’s strategy of multiple landings would instead fall into the trap of scattered forces. And once the Thunderbolt Fleet gains control of space, even if temporarily, the Fei Alliance’s follow-up troops would be unable to land on Canglang Star. This means they’ve delivered at least ten to twenty divisions as a snack for the behemoth that is the Resk Battle!

The current question is where exactly this force intends to establish a blockade line. This is the most urgent problem to be solved for the Second Armored Division, which lacks SkyNet.

”Where will you be...” Vego’s gaze swept back and forth across the electronic map.

According to his previous analysis, the most likely appearance of this force would be in the direction of Shuangxi Bridge Town northwest of the Flyns Agricultural District. If the First Battalion and First Company’s reconnaissance team encountered the enemy in the northwest direction and was killed, he wouldn’t be surprised at all. But no one expected the first contact to occur in the northeast direction of the Flyns Agricultural District!

That is to say, at least one Chuckna force has already formed a parallel stance with his troops!

If the reconnaissance team discovered the rear of the enemy, then the vanguard of this Chuckna force could even have penetrated to their rear, several kilometers behind.

Could this be another engagement of mutual infiltration?

If true, then the only target for this force heading north from here would be... Vego’s eyes, as sharp as a blade, were fixed on Beiguan City quietly lying on the flat map!

Once the Second Armored Division leaves, Beiguan City would be left with only a Mechanical Infantry and a Monitoring Bureau Guard Armored Group.

If the enemy breaks into Beiguan City, not only would they shut the door, but even His Highness could potentially... Not to mention, according to the intelligence, one landing point of the Fei Alliance Joint Army wasn’t far from Beiguan City.

The enemy’s tail must be seized. They made a miscalculation if they thought they could slip past the Second Division. Whether they go to Shuangxi Bridge or head north to directly attack Beiguan City or block its southern outskirts, the Second Division will bite them relentlessly until they bleed their last drop of blood and collapse in the winter snow!

”Order: the First Battalion and First Company send out two more reconnaissance teams to the engagement point for investigation and quickly report back. Command the Second Company’s Third Battalion to dispatch six reconnaissance teams swiftly to the Flyns Agricultural District. If the enemy has already left, immediately scout in the northeast direction,” Vego hastily ordered. ”Command the Second Company’s Second Battalion on the left wing to expand the range of flank reconnaissance, if necessary...”

Before Vego finished speaking, suddenly several violent explosions echoed from the other side of the hills at the left wing of the formation.

Vego stood up abruptly, and by his side, officers had already opened the hatch and rushed out of the Command Mecha.

The advancing formation halted. Despite the sudden turn of events, the formation of the entire Second Armored Division remained intact. Hundreds of Mecha orderly maneuvered out of the line, expanding rapidly towards the left wing under the direction of the officers. The medium-sized Mechas and heavy Mechas in the formation simultaneously contracted into a circular defensive position, ready to intercept with firepower at any moment.

Vego walked to the hatch, looking at the distant hills. After the explosions, the mountains returned to silence. Suddenly, two more explosions sounded in succession, this time still on the left wing of the formation but shifted significantly in position.

”General!” the communications staff in the Command Mecha finally received the message from the front lines and stood up to report, ”The Second Company’s Second Battalion’s outer alert line has encountered enemy reconnaissance troops. It’s currently in fierce firefight.”

”Reconnaissance troops?” Vego sneered coldly, ”I’m afraid not. The first time might have been a sudden encounter, but the second time like this is deliberate. However, since they’ve come, they won’t be leaving.”
