Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1299: Chapter 52: Blade_2

Perhaps this was not a well-thought-out move by the Jiepeng Soldier, but this battle instinct is even more startling.

At that moment, this Jiepeng Soldier could have fallen, could have quietly laid aside, waiting for his side to win and then seize a chance to escape death. But he didn’t; he just resolutely operated the nearly uncontrollable Mecha to throw that punch.

And his companions likely knew before the assault that facing an opponent like Baz, their chances of victory were slim. Yet they executed a fierce and seamless coordination, without the slightest hesitation. Even when these Mechas were destroyed by Mombarton and the infantry that came in from the side, these Mech Knights fought in a resolute, mechanical manner, without a thought of retreat.

Even though he had long known of the reputation of the Second Armored Division, Fatty couldn’t help but feel a heaviness in his heart because of this brief scene. Facing an entire Armored Division like this, how much sacrifice would the warriors behind him have to make? After a hellish few hours in the future, how many people could he bring back?!

And this was not the most important thing.

More importantly, the Jiepeng Main Force moved.

Less than a minute after Baz launched an attack, Pipi had already detected the reaction of this unit appearing.

However, they not only dispatched two companies to swiftly move toward the eastern battle area, but also, including the vanguard battalion, a regiment began turning to the west at this moment!

At this moment, Fatty developed an extreme wariness towards the opposing Commander.

This might just be a probe by the opposing Commander. But such a probe requires accurate judgment and extremely strong confidence.

They did not know if the battle happening to the east involved Chuckna’s Main Force; if it did, pulling a regiment to turn towards Shuangxi Bridge in the west would undoubtedly be a major military taboo.

But the Jiepeng Commander did just that. When Baz launched the attack.

Fatty looked up at the morning glow on the horizon, a long streak of red clouds hanging in the sky, red to the point of being glaring. This morning seemed as if it had been smeared with blood.

”Baz has retreated.” The voice of the little kid rang out in the communication channel. Usually cheeky, its tone was unusually serious at this time.

”How big a fish did you catch?” Fatty tried to lighten his tone a bit.

From Leray to Gazalin, from Mars to here, how much bloodshed had he witnessed along this journey?!

He was no longer the Mechanic Soldier who fled more than twenty times in half a year, nor the Special Soldier who led the team in Mezrich out of instinct, risking everything to assassinate Stephen a thousand miles deep because of a deadlock in command.

Now, he was a Commander—bearing the responsibility for the success or failure of the entire battle, and the lives of the warriors behind him!

”A pound!” said the little kid.

A battalion. Just as Fatty felt a sense of relief, the little kid’s subsequent words made his heart leap, ”But this pound is their finest. They deployed their Special Forces Camp!”

”Blade!”

********************************************************************************

The Second Armored Division began to contract as the command group halted its advance.

From the air, the densely scattered Jiepeng Armored Forces in the hills and valleys looked like a swarm of ants meeting an obstacle.

In a short time, the ten-kilometer-long troop concentrated tightly together. The Central Group remained still, the rear units quickly approached and built a temporary defensive line, and one part of the units on the flanks constructed fortifications while the other part began to spread out.

Dozens of Mecha Teams exploded out like poisonous juice, splattering to the distance. Some of them echoed each other, advancing steadily, while others conducted large-scale high-speed maneuvers to further distances.

Those building fortifications showed no slacking despite the possibility of it being in vain. Those advancing steadily didn’t hurry in the face of the increasingly fierce battle ahead. Those maneuvering at high speeds to further distances dashed forward, paying no heed to the potential dangers in areas they passed through.

Everyone’s objectives were clear, their tasks clearly defined. They did only what they should do; their eyes focused only on the goals they must achieve, leaving other matters, their sides and rear, to their companions. This was a trust born out of combat experience.

The entire Second Armored Division was like a wisteria suddenly unfurled in the rain, spreading its toxic tendrils, twisting like Medusa’s thousand snake-like hairs, spreading outwards.

This unique plant, originating from Jiepeng’s Main Star, was the emblem of the Second Armored Division.

Vego sat quietly inside the Command Mecha. Watching through the open hatch, the Mechanic was inspecting his latest Jiepeng-developed Anubis Human-shaped Mecha.

Anubis, the mythical god of the Netherworld and death. However, Vego preferred Anubis’s designation in the early history of ancient Egypt on Earth—the Grim Reaper.

This Anubis model completely adopted the image of the Anubis from ancient Earth—a jackal head and human body. The wide, striped decorations hung like Anubis’s headcloth from its face to its chest. Its body, as if a bare-chested male, in bronze color, was burly and powerful, with fold-like adornments around its waist resembling a wrap.
