Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1264: Chapter 39: Disappearance

Winter in the northern hemisphere of Canglang Star coincides with autumn in the Chuckna Capital, Hanjing City.

The sky was clear and crisp, pigeons were flying, and Su Fei walked briskly across the square covered in golden maple leaves, stepping into the television station building. The rhythmic sound of her high heels echoed in the hallway.

The building was bustling. It was rush hour, and everyone was hurrying. Su Fei’s presence seemed to bring a fresh breeze into the entire building. People passing by instinctively turned their heads to look at the woman with wavy long hair, swaying gracefully as she walked.

The thirty-two-year-old Su Fei was at an age where her allure was irresistible. Her natural beauty combined with an enchanting femininity made her irresistibly seductive to any man’s eyes.

However, those who knew Su Fei well understood that this staunch individualist had no patience for men. In her lexicon, there was no place for love. Apart from work, Su Fei’s only pastime was travel. Over the years, she had almost traversed every corner of the human world. As a photography enthusiast, she wished to capture all the world’s breathtaking scenes through her lens.

Su Fei was not a staff member of the television station. Her official position was the head of the foreign affairs team within the Propaganda Department of the Chuckna Military Department. As the top operative under the head of propaganda, she had long been the mouthpiece of the Chuckna Military, whether it was regional conflicts or the Human Supreme Joint Council, her presence was always seen.

This visit to the television station was because the Military Department was preparing to collaborate with the station to produce a battlefield reporting program.

Ignoring the amazed stares around her, Su Fei walked forward with just a slight frown.

For her now, there was no room to think about other matters, her mind was entirely preoccupied with the current predicament of the Chuckna Military Department.

Since Chuckna declared war, the public has heavily criticized the retreat and delay strategy of the Chuckna Military Department, believing that the frequent changes of control in Resk were closely related to the military’s weakness. The once spirited determination of Chuckna had been discarded completely. Their incessant fear and hesitance have emboldened Suss, causing the blaze of war in Resk to wreak havoc and leave the populace in misery.

For such criticism, Su Fei never argued back. Even during private gatherings with friends, when such topics came up, she always remained silent.

In reality, the Military Department was also extremely aggrieved by the current situation.

The way the Resk Battle had turned out was largely due to the political strategy of the Presidential Office. In this war that engulfed all of humanity, the Presidential Office did not want to commit all its forces from the start. The President was more concerned about the international situation and the attitude of the Feiyang Republic.

The intentions of the two superpowers were well-known. If Chuckna had gone all out from the beginning, no matter the outcome, the winners would still be the two superpowers. No one seemed willing to suffer that loss.

However, in private discussions, Su Fei often voiced criticisms about the policies of the Presidential Office.

In her view, a war is a war, not a business negotiation over petty profits. In the face of invaders, every inch of land should be fought for with all national might. A great statesman should have the heart of a great statesman. Politics requires wisdom, but even more so, it requires the courage to sacrifice everything.

If the Presidential Office fully supported the Military Department instead of imposing current restraints, how could Canglang Star have been ambushed by Mikami Yuto, and how could Marshal Li Cunxin be in a situation where his life and death were uncertain?!

Thinking about the current predicament faced by the Propaganda Department, Su Fei found herself with a headache.

The loss of Canglang Star had brought the public’s skepticism to a boiling point. But at this time, the Presidential Office seemed to have no involvement. Those damned presidential security advisors had all gone silent, and their words during media interviews vaguely attributed everything to a strategic blunder by the Military Department. Why didn’t they think that if it weren’t for them, Chuckna’s military mobilization wouldn’t have been so slow!

In the more than twenty days since Canglang Star’s fall, all Su Fei felt within the Military Department was oppression. Her colleagues no longer had the energy for anger and complaints. The old Marshal Li Cunxin was still missing, dead or alive. Everyone focused solely on taking advantage of the period when those meddlesome security advisors were absent to mobilize and gather all possible resources to rectify the situation.

The troops were fully assembled, and the day of the counterattack was imminent. For this battle, the senior military officials had cast aside all concerns. If the Presidential Office and their security advisors came to the Military Department, they would only run into cold shoulders.

Strike back, and let the public see whether the Military Department they’ve been criticizing is still the unyielding backbone of Chuckna that cannot be defeated!

The honor of Chuckna Soldiers must be reclaimed by themselves in this battle!

Standing outside the office of the famous television host Felix, Su Fei took a deep breath.

The frontline coverage by the Military Department has always required extremely strict approval. But this time, when the chief solemnly informed her and the television station of the joint live broadcast, she knew it was a risky move by the Military Department.

If the frontline wins, the Military Department’s reputation will be restored. The public’s misunderstandings and accusations will be washed away with blood and victory.

If they lose.......

Thinking of Felix, the national talk show champion host’s sharp tongue, his ruthless, and extremely incisive hosting style, Su Fei felt a pang of apprehension.
