Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1267: Chapter 41: Morning Light (Part 2)

October 2063,

The situation on Canglang Star was unpredictable and volatile.

The situation, which had been completely controlled by the Jiepeng Empire, became chaotic because the Chuckna 13th Armored Division and the 51st Mechanized Infantry Division both broke through numerous sieges and fled into the Northern Mountain Region.

Although the major cities were still under the strong control of the Jiepeng Army, everyone could feel the agitation and excitement permeating the air.

The Jiepeng Army had strengthened its blockade and alert on city streets.

The patrols, originally conducted every half hour, had increased to every ten minutes. The patrol units were no longer just infantry but were equipped with Mecha.

The heavy footsteps of Mecha echoed back and forth on the streets. Troops were moving day and night. The city’s suburbs and all strategic points were constructing defense fortifications tensely. The barricades at street corners, metal bulletproof walls, and sandbags were layered crisscrossingly. Armed-to-the-teeth sentries faced every unarmed Chuckna person with constant vigilance.

The tense atmosphere spread above the planet.

The battle in the Northern Mountain Region was no longer a secret. The discussions among the idle Jiepeng officers and soldiers were all about this war.

Everyone knew that time waits for no one. The Fei Alliance was about to reinforce Resk. To gain an initiative in the future battle, the main force led by Mikami Yuto on Leifeng Star was painstakingly accumulating advantages.

However, the areas previously lost by the Suss people were too many. After landing, the Army faced a rock-solid contracting defense of the Fei Alliance Joint Army. The Army and Space Navy alike faced the same issue. Against Mikami Yuto’s fleet, the Fei Alliance Fleet under Qian Bolin’s command completely abandoned the surrounding of Leifeng Star, avoiding direct confrontation, and only engaged in harassment attacks daily.

Officers who had met Mikami Yuto returned saying that this Jiepeng General appeared thinner than before, looking even shorter. On his student-like face, his eyes were deeply sunken, and his skin was so pale as to seem sickly. His hair was dry and yellow, and his lips had no color. Whenever he sat there thinking for long periods, he looked as if he were dead.

Mikami Yuto had truly exhausted himself in this battle, squeezing out every bit of energy from his body.

Qian Bolin was a renowned general of Feiyang, known for his steady and meticulous tactics. If not for Mikami Yuto’s cunning and ever-changing military prowess, the Western Alliance could hardly have achieved such an advantage. But how much of that advantage would hold when facing the imminent counterattack of the Fei Alliance, no one was sure.

In both Suss and Jiepeng, the mobilization was in full swing. All available troops and supplies were being continuously sent to Resk. Facing a future bitter battle concerning the fate of the entire Southeast Star Domain, every aspect was making efforts, yet as the headquarters, Canglang Star had thirty divisions tied down in the Northern Mountain Region, just to deal with those two wandering Chuckna divisions.

This was indeed outside everyone’s expectations.

To be honest, the Jiepeng soldiers had some admiration for these Chuckna counterparts.

More than twenty days ago, no one considered these two divisions seriously. When they started fleeing, they had just withdrawn from the front line on Leifeng Star, exhausted and ill-equipped. Most of the Mecha of the 13th Armored Division were still in transport ships, and the 51st Mechanized Infantry Division, having lost most of its troop transport mecha and transport mecha, was truly nothing more than an ”infantry” division.

Dealing with such two divisions, the battle should have ended within three days. Yet, these very two divisions managed to fight and evade for half a month under the high-mobility pursuit of the Jiepeng air transport ships and ground Mecha troop carriers.

That’s not all; what was even more unexpected was that after being forced into the mountainous northern bank of the Karachi River and besieged, they miraculously turned the tables and gave the renowned 59th Division of the Jiepeng Army a heavy blow, breaking through Hot Spring Town and fleeing into the Northern Mountain Region. As a result, even now, Canglang Star was not truly under Jiepeng’s control.

It was this unit’s resilience that spurred increasingly frequent resistance activities across Canglang Star. Every day, in every corner of the planet, Jiepeng transport vehicles and Logistics Camps suffered attacks. Daily, supplies were burned and looted, officers were assassinated, and even soldiers on leave often mysteriously disappeared.

Despite the strict information blockade from above and the elite of Prince Bobett’s Monitoring Bureau having arrived in Beiguan City, with thirty divisions sealing off the entire Northern Mountain Region, soldiers discussed in private, and no one dared to commit to a timeframe for eliminating those two Chuckna divisions.

Who knew what those cockroach-like resilient guys would do in the Northern Mountain Region next? They were like the monkey in ancient mythological novels, impossible to kill, no matter whether swallowed or locked in a furnace. At any lapse, it would jump out and cause trouble.

The great battle was imminent, yet when could the thirty divisions eliminate this force?

The atmosphere in the city was suffocating and oppressive. People walked hastily on the streets, while long lines of those waiting for clearance formed at suburban intersections. The cold wind was fierce, snow accumulated by the roadside and on treetops, and the ordinary Chuckna citizens, wrapped in thick clothing, were humble and silent, exchanging only knowing glances outside the watchful eyes of the tense, somewhat neurotic Jiepeng soldiers.
