Chapter 589: Chapter 248: Stone Staircase on the Island (Combined Two-in-One Chapter)_2

Rein carefully examined the small bird under Blood Feather’s deadly claws, already half-dead.

“Looks a lot like a sparrow…”

“Eh, could this be a Tree Sparrow?” A sudden flash of insight crossed Rein’s mind.

Because of Vinica, Rein was now somewhat of an expert on birds.

Recently, he had learned a lot about the common domesticated bird species from Vinica.

If it was indeed a Tree Sparrow, then Rein could be nearly certain that someone was tracking him.

“But who could it be?”

“Javier’s emissary?”

“The likelihood doesn’t seem too great.”

“We’re about to enter the control area of the Murlocs and the Blood Curse Naga, is there a way to set the tail behind us against one of the two?”

After pondering for a moment, Rein shook his head.

“If the other party draws the attention of a large number of Murlocs and Blood Curse Naga, that could pose a risk of exposure for myself afterward.”

“Besides, being attacked from both sides is clearly not a good idea.”

“Since that’s the case, it’s better to take care of the issue myself and eliminate the tail.”

Surrounded by forests and hills, Rein was determined to see who was behind him.

Although the Beast Tamer (Transcendent) class panel was overridden, the core skill ‘Eye of the Beast’ had been inherited by the Beast Priest (Legendary) class panel.

However, the other core skill of the Beast Tamer, ‘Animal Affinity,’ had disappeared…

While it was somewhat regrettable, perhaps it conflicted with the legendary class of Beast Priest.

Draining the other’s vitality…

The beasts just can’t warm up to you, can they?

With the vision of Blood Feather exceeding that of humans by more than five times, Rein quickly saw a small team of four people trailed behind him on the winding path, several kilometers away.

“Wait, there’s also a dog…”

Within five kilometers in front and behind him, there was just this one team – clearly, it must be this team that had sent the Tree Sparrow to follow him.

Adjusting his overhead view slightly, Rein saw a somewhat familiar figure among the group, leather armor and dagger…

“Eh?”

“Is that him?”

“That Hammis from the Yakesen Auction House?”

“Most likely, the other party must have determined through some mysterious means that the Ancient Giant Troll’s tusks were in my possession…”

With a flicker of thought, Rein instantly pieced together the cause and effect, his expression growing stern.

“Such stealthy tailing clearly indicates no good intentions; are they planning to make a move against me?”

Looking over at the nearby forest, Rein let the black horse continue forward a short distance, while he himself took cover in the forest.

At the same time, he began to take out poison bottles from his waist pouch…

Not far away.

A team of four continued to advance toward Rein’s position, led by Hammis.

In Mingster, Hammis was wary of Rein mainly because of Rein’s identity as an imperial Sword Bearer, not because of Rein’s personal strength.

In his heart, a newly-minted Sword Bearer with the strength of a Great Knight was indeed impressive for someone so young.

But that was all it was, impressive, and he really didn’t take it to heart.

As for Rein’s killing of the native in the trade zone, of course, he knew about it. So, does it prove Rein’s strength is formidable?

Don’t make me laugh!

Let’s not forget, who was it that exterminated that tribe of natives?

Who escorted the few dozen remaining natives to Mingster?

It was their own group, of course!

Now that Rein had left Mingster, and what’s more, ventured into the erupting warfare in Meister,

This was too good of an opportunity.

Hammis had long thought it through; he would capture Rein alive, torture him severely, play with him enough, and then trick him into revealing the whereabouts of the Ancient Giant Troll’s tusks before killing him outright.

This area around was forest; disposing of a body in the wilderness required no effort or disguise.

If ever questioned later, he could just pin it on the Cult.

As for how to capture Rein alive?

The slaver team was all too experienced in that!

Next, they would have Danielson cast Concealment Technique on the other two to secretly surround Rein. Hammis would attract Rein’s attention from the front, and once Danielson used the Earth Grip witchcraft to immobilize him, they would throw nets and poison gas to capture him swiftly.

In that situation, a Great Knight?

It would only be a matter of holding out a little longer than a Peak Knight.

This coordination was something they were very skilled at.

That was why their slaver team was so valued by the Yakesen Auction House in Mingster.

…

The Dutyka dog in Hammis’s team, much like the Doberman Rein had seen in his previous life, suddenly started barking.

“Something’s wrong, the horse hoof prints have clearly become much lighter.” Hammis’s narrow eyes squinted, raising his hand to signal everyone to stop moving.

The next second, a sharp sound of something cutting through the air was heard.

The moment the third-tier Wizard Apprentice Danielson turned his head to locate the source of the noise, he saw a black shadow strike him like lightning!

“Ahh!!!”

Without any time to react, a scream erupted!

Danielson felt a piercing pain in his waist!

Immediately after, the world spun around, and as he fell from his horse, he saw his familiar legs still stuck in the stirrups…

The man with tied-back hair behind Danielson saw everything crystal clear!

For crying out loud, his companion Danielson didn’t even have time to dodge before being struck by a heavy black steel arrow that shattered his waist!

It shattered, not pierced!

“Ambush!!” Hammis’s face instantly went pale, and he flipped off his horse to take cover on the animal’s flank.
