Chapter 569: Chapter 243: Emergency Incident (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_2

“Right, if we’re talking about newcomers, based on the timing, shouldn’t he be in the newcomers’ free special training right now? How could he…” Kim suddenly thought of another question.

But immediately after, he shook his head, “Forget it, with freak newcomers like this, anything is possible!”

Waynes, on the other hand, stood with his arms crossed, silently observing the recent scene from a distance.

“Interesting…”

…..

Upon leaving the training building, Rein made his way towards the mission hall.

He wasn’t thinking of taking on a task immediately, but rather he intended to first understand the situation.

Soon, following the direction signs and passing through a garden blooming with flowers and neatly-trimmed shrubs, Rein arrived in front of a circular fountain flowerbed.

On one side of the flowerbed was a white building, its architectural style consistent with the rest of the Sword Bearers Branch, equally simple and grand, the very mission hall itself.

Upon entering the hall, Rein found that there were slightly more people than in the exchange hall, but it wasn’t the noisy scene he had imagined.

It was still the familiar counters, one-on-one receptions, uniformed young ladies…

This made Rein raise his eyebrows slightly.

After a moment’s thought, Rein somewhat understood.

The tasks for personnel of different ranks are not the same. If they were all displayed, that could easily lead to breaches of confidentiality and other issues…

Soon, it was Rein’s turn.

“Hello, sir, how may I assist you?” A petite female clerk saw Rein approach, stood up, and bowed as she spoke.

“Show me the tasks available for Bronze level,” Rein said while handing over his Bronze badge to her.

“Of course, sir. Please wait a moment,” the young clerk respectfully received it with both hands.

“Sir, please look at the wisdom slate. As there are many tasks, you can click to turn the pages,” the young clerk quickly found the tasks suited for Bronze level.

“Alright, thank you!” Rein nodded and promptly began to review them.

This wisdom slate actually had a touch screen…

No idea which witchcraft this was, but it’s impressive!

…..

“Investigate the disappearances in Nockford County (Bronze level). Recently, dozens of people have gone missing from Nockford County Town, starting from homeless individuals to young adults, and now even two knights from the City Guard have vanished.”

“Task requirements: Investigate and clarify the situation within a week; recommended team size: two people or more. Rewards: one Bronze medal, 200 Merit Points.”

(“Note: Rewards will be adjusted if the hidden dangers or sources are eliminated during the investigation.”)

….

“Investigate the Yinggodi Mine occupation by unknown subterranean creatures (Bronze level). The Yinggodi Mine located in Devon County has recently been taken over by unknown subterranean creatures, ranging from initially dispatched peace officers to the town’s sheriff, and even now, an elite investigative team sent by Devon County has gone missing.”

“Task requirements: Investigate and clarify the situation within a week; recommended team size: three people or more. Rewards: two Bronze medals, 350 Merit Points.”

(“Note: Rewards will be adjusted if the unknown subterranean creatures are eliminated during the investigation.”)

….

“Investigate the mysterious dismemberments in Derby County (Bronze level). Derby County has experienced several cases where nobles with the strength of official knights and even senior knights have been victimized. Strangely, when the bodies of these nobles are discovered, their limbs have vanished without a trace.”

“Task requirements: Investigate and clarify the situation within this month; recommended team size: three people or more. Rewards: two Bronze medals, 400 Merit Points.”

(“Note: Rewards will be adjusted if the perpetrator is killed or captured during the investigation.”)

….

After looking over several tasks, Rein furrowed his brow.

Although the tasks refreshing on the wisdom slate were all Bronze level and consistent with his rank, the recommended team size listed in the task requirements was mostly two people or more.

This…

Should he call on Vinica or Evelyn?

After a brief consideration, Rein dismissed the idea of approaching Vinica and Evelyn.

Unlike him, they did not have the afternoon to do as they pleased. Every afternoon, they had to attend witchcraft technique training classes, a process that would continue until just before the re-exam.

“Excuse me, would I be able to take on this investigation of the Yinggodi Mine taken over by unknown subterranean creatures by myself?” Rein pondered for a while and then inquired.

“Sir, that is not allowed. The task requirements clearly state that the number of participants must meet the stipulated guidelines,” the young clerk shook her head.

But quickly, she seemed to think of something and looked at Rein with surprise: “Sir, are… are you a newcomer?”

Because an experienced Sword Bearer wouldn’t be unaware of this rule.

“Yes.” Rein nodded, as there wasn’t anything to hide about this.

“Then you shouldn’t…” the young clerk blurted out.

But quickly, she closed her mouth, smiled sweetly, and said, “Sir, as a newcomer, you can choose to take on defensive support tasks.”

“Defensive support tasks?” Rein thought for a moment and shook his head. He was somewhat unclear.

“That’s right. Newcomers are generally required to continue their training within the branch to enhance their abilities. Therefore, the branch has arranged some special tasks, such as taking acting defensive roles in Mingster’s various jurisdictions or directly governed small towns.”

“The specific mission involves assisting Mingster’s imperial functional departments with issues they cannot resolve.”

“Since the mission locations are within Mingster, this allows the newly joined Sword Bearers to avoid travel and have time to train and improve their skills within the branch.”
