Chapter 588: Chapter 248: Stone Steps on the Island (Two-in-One Chapter)

Seeing Lord Rein’s sudden arrival, Jenny and Agatha were both very surprised at first, but soon their faces showed realization.

Because this morning, they had heard the orderly footsteps of a military formation, seemingly moving from inside to outside the city.

“Lord Rein, are you on a mission?” Jenny asked directly.

“Yes, I have to set out on a mission,” Rein nodded, thought for a moment, and felt it was better to let the two women know the situation.

After all, no matter how tightly the news was sealed, it would inevitably spread soon after.

By then, with him not in Mingster, it would be worse if the two women were caught in a panic.

“Last night, Meister was attacked, but the County Town is still stable,” Rein said solemnly.

Hearing this news, the two women’s pretty faces changed instantly, and they exclaimed, “Ah? Is it serious?”

“Will there be more…”

Rein shook his head, “It’s too early to say now.”

“However, within two days, everyone including your mother, Baroness Crowley, will be escorted to Mingster, and you can arrange the rooms in advance,” Rein said.

Hearing that Rein had made arrangements in advance, Jenny’s worried expression disappeared, and she looked pleased.

However, Rein’s expression became stern, and he turned to Agatha, saying:

“Agatha, according to imperial decree, although your father, as a noble, cannot leave his fief at will, the rest of the Wiggins family can. You can write a letter to your father to have him arrange for some people to evacuate beforehand.”

“The County Town might not be safe either.”

“Ah? Okay, okay, Lord Rein.” Agatha, who was originally somewhat enamored at seeing Rein, had those feelings dissipate completely upon hearing about the attack on Meister.

“You two stay in Mingster and try to minimize going out,” Rein cautioned once more before leaving.

“Yes, Lord Rein.”

…

After leaving the villa, Rein rode on a black horse, with ‘Cookie’ trotting towards the city outskirts.

Just as he was about to leave the city gate, Rein looked up at the sky and saw a white seagull flapping its wings, landing on his shoulder.

After a brief eye contact, Rein had a mental transmission image from the white seagull in his mind.

A fair hand wrote swiftly on a piece of white paper with a quill, “Rein, be sure to stay safe…”

This was the concern of a twin-tailed young girl.

…

When Rein reached the city gate, he saw troops of fully armed imperial soldiers departing from the city and marching towards the direction of Meister and Rosby counties.

Looking down from a high place, one could see that on the vast plains, two long lines of troops were advancing in different directions.

And as Rein rode past the imperial soldiers repeatedly, he noticed a change in the composition of the troops, from the greatshield crossbowmen and heavy cavalry he encountered at first, to the light cavalry that were now marching at the fastest pace.

He overtook them along the way, and the soldiers, curious, frequently glanced at this obviously noble young man, who was racing along with a fierce hound the size of a small pony following behind him.

It had taken Rein an entire week to travel from Meister to Mingster when accompanied by a merchant convoy.

Now, he had placed weapons such as the Glimmering Greatsword and war bows on the now ferocious beast of war, the Lurcher hound.

Lighly equipped, he capitalized on the black horse’s stamina, comparable to that of a ferocious beast, and raced along the road with lightning speed, naturally more than several times faster!

“Damn! How can this guy’s horse be so fast!” Hammis couldn’t help but curse.

Just now, near the city gate, he had watched Rein, clad in a pale silver Knight’s armor, riding a strong black horse with a dog, quickly disappear into the distance ahead of him.

He turned to a bearded man behind him and said, “Track him, damn it, he’s too fast!”

“No problem!” the bearded man replied, deftly picking up a small birdcage from the side of the horse.

The bearded man quickly released the small gray bird from the cage and pointed in Rein’s direction. Immediately, the gray bird soared into the sky!

This type of gray bird, also known as a tracking bird, its scientific name is brown-backed sparrow, resembles a sparrow in appearance, small in size, with gray feathers all over its body, and quite inconspicuous, yet it has a flying speed akin to that of a swift.

However, what Hammis and his group did not notice was that above the clouds, a predator the size of a swan, with blue and purple feathers intermingled, was circling above Rein’s position.

…

When Rein passed through the region of Welsh County and entered Meister territory, the severity of the checks at the roadblocks on the way increased dramatically.

Even he was stopped by the guard soldiers and questioned in detail.

“My lord, Meister County has been fully militarized, and according to superior orders, we advise against anyone going there on their own,” the soldiers said.

Rein’s expression grew serious, he nodded, and said, “I am on a mission.”

Having said that, he showed his documents to them.

Upon seeing them, the captain of the soldiers showed solemn respect for Rein!

So young and already on a special task.

“Lord Rein, we salute you!” a squad of soldiers at the checkpoint immediately saluted him.

“I wish you good luck as well,” Rein said with a smile.

Continuing his journey for a while longer, the evening was nearing.

At that moment, Blood Feather called from the sky, swooped down to catch a certain bird, then circled down and landed on Rein’s forearm.

Rein looked at Blood Feather, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.

“Blood Feather, are you saying that this bird has been following me back and forth all the way?”

“Chirp~” Blood Feather looked at Rein with expressive eyes, raised its head, chirped affirmatively, acknowledging Rein’s words.
