Chapter 557: Chapter 240 Not Enough Merit Points (Two-in-One Large Chapter)_2

This inevitably brought a faint smile to their faces…

Hehe! This is a case of the brash encountering someone even brasher!

…

In the recent battle, Rein had not opted for adding points to replenish his energy; otherwise, even Kurman, the Peak Knight, would have eventually been worn down to exhaustion by Rein’s persistence.

Rein was very clear about the purpose of this battle: it was for Kurman to provide advice and suggestions from the perspective of an instructor, not to achieve victory by unfair means.

Although Rein didn’t win, he felt that this fight had been more engrossing and exhilarating than when he defeated the Obsidian giant with a single hammer blow.

At the same time, the experience points awarded by the system were not insignificant:

[Your Skill, Tokkal Hammer Technique, has gained improvement, experience +671]

(Note: The above Skill experience has enjoyed a 30% increase due to the exclusive talent ‘Elementary Extraordinary Understanding’.)

[You have been through a battle, Weapon Master (Legendary) experience +198]

…

After the two returned to the hall, Kurman said, “Rein, I understand your situation now. Let me share my advice with you.”

“In terms of combat skills with the Hammer Skill, it can be said that you are not much different from me, and there is little I can teach you.”

“If you wish to further improve your Hammer Skill, you will need to ponder on your own and, on the other hand, seek out a master who specializes in Hammer Skill. It’s hard to imagine that at your age, you have managed to master the Hammer Skill to such an extent.”

Here, Kurman hesitated for a moment before continuing:

“However, it seems that the development of your physical attributes in some areas is still weak.”

“Given your strength talent, you can be stronger, which I assume is due to both your breathing technique not being very advanced, and your lack of years in practising it.”

Rein looked at Kurman in surprise, silently praising the Sword Bearer instructors for their discernment.

This also confirmed what Angus had mentioned during lunch; the Sword Bearer instructors were not the strongest group in the division, but most of them had rich teaching experience.

Himself having practised his breathing technique for less than a year in total, compared to the other knights who began at the age of ten, that was a difference of around seven or eight years. And the development of the body through the breathing technique was not something that could be achieved overnight; it was the result of cumulative effort over time.

Hence the current situation.

Otherwise, with his level 14 Giant Bear Breathing Technique, if the attributes were not enhanced by adding points but through normal practice, his attributes would be even stronger.

However… for others, this would seem like a big problem.

But not for himself.

This was something he could compensate for, after all, he still had as many as 12 unused attribute points left!

“For this, my recommendation is to use certain specific drugs during regular training to enhance yourself, and secondly, you need to undergo physical conditioning training,” Kurman quickly put forward his suggestion.

“Specific drugs? Like refined Kuroki oil and the like?” Rein couldn’t help but ask.

Kurman immediately shook his head but then seemed to make a connection and looked at Rein with bright eyes, saying, “Eh? You’re practicing the Giant Bear Breathing Technique? No wonder it felt familiar to me just now.”

However, after taking a closer look at Rein again, Kurman said, “No, that’s not right, it must have been modified!”

“What a pity! The Giant Bear Breathing Technique you practice is merely a routine technique in terms of quality, and even though it has been modified, it just barely reaches an excellent level.”

“It definitely won’t match some of the superior breathing techniques in terms of developing your body’s potential. It’s such a waste of your great talent!” Kurman observed, shaking his head slightly.

Rein did not argue when he heard Kurman put it that way; instead, he silently thought to himself that he could add points, so it wasn’t a waste…

Besides, another question occurred to him. Right, why not change the breathing technique?

After thinking it over, Rein still decided to ask: “Instructor Kurman, is it not possible to switch to a different breathing technique?”

Kurman looked at Rein with a strange expression, as if to say, ‘how could you ask such a question?’

But Kurman didn’t keep him in suspense, quickly explaining, “Given that you’ve practiced your Giant Bear Breathing Technique from beginner to proficient level, it must have taken many years. Switching to a higher-level breathing technique means starting from scratch, letting your body readjust to this change.”

“During the long adjustment period of several years, the development of your physical abilities would almost come to a halt, and there’s a high likelihood that your strength would remain stagnant.”

Upon hearing this, Rein understood Kurman’s point.

Normally, a knight adjusting their breathing technique is a lengthy process, and even with a high-level technique at hand, starting over would take a lot of time and effort.

Therefore, under normal circumstances, if the quality of a breathing technique is only one level lower, few knights would choose to make the change.

However… this might not apply to him…

His own Giant Bear Breathing Technique had been practiced for just one year at most, right?

More importantly, due to the system’s integration function, which would merge similar combat skills together and improve them, it was like the previous basic archery and Blood Fury Archery.

That is to say, not only does he not face a lengthy adjustment period for the breathing technique, but he could also quickly master the improved high-level breathing technique.
