Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys

Chapter 559: Chapter 240 Insufficient Merit Points (Combined Double Chapter)_4

Previously, he had thought about joining the empire’s Sword Bearers and then looking for witchcraft related to metals.

But the problem was, he had not yet been promoted to a full Wizard.

“Almost forgot, tomorrow I need to check the exchange conditions for the Vaporizing Agent…”

“And the defensive models of first-tier witchcraft… they must be of the Fire Element.”

“After all, ‘Metal Morphing Spell’ sounds like it’s not a defensive type of witchcraft…”

Rein still remembered that Naya, who had Magician’s bloodline, had once tested his elemental affinity for him; his affinity for the Fire Element was 71, and for the metal element, it was 72.

Clearly, these two types of witchcraft were his first choices.

However… just thinking about all the things he needed to exchange made Rein frown.

There were too many good things he wanted, but not enough ‘money’ to spend!

“No, I must go to the mission hall tomorrow.”

“Increase revenue and reduce expenditure, with emphasis on the former!”

…

The next morning, the special training scheduled was a general knowledge class.

However, what Rein had not expected was that the instructor for their first general knowledge class turned out to be the incredibly strong Marcus.

This once again proved that individuals with well-developed limbs also had complex minds…

“Today, I’ll tell you all why most of the empire’s special units operate in small teams for tasks,” Marcus’s robust voice echoed in the hall.

“This is partly due to historical origins, and of course, there are also practical combat considerations. In ancient times, humans centered around Transcendent individuals to form hunting teams to hunt beasts…”

“For example, the most common Transcendent individuals within the empire—Knights, often have multiple Knight Attendants around one formal Knight to form a combat team, forming the foundation of the empire’s security…”

Previously, Rein had wondered why the Sword Bearers adopted the team format.

After listening to Marcus’s explanation, Rein’s speculation was confirmed.

The Sword Bearers’ teams were essentially assisting each member, with the team leader as the core of combat and defense.

This model was very similar to the empire’s oldest model of building a combat core around Knights; thus, it had evolved slowly.

“Next, I’ll talk about some common knowledge regarding task acceptance… each person can only accept tasks one level above or below their own rank. For you, at the Black Iron rank, the highest you can accept are Bronze tasks,”

“And when you reach the Silver rank, you can accept tasks at the Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels, but note that accepting tasks below your own rank will result in a discounted reward.”

“On the other hand, accepting tasks above your own rank, if completed, will yield extra rewards. However, if you fail, a certain number of Merit Points will be deducted,” continued Marcus.

Oh?

Rein raised an eyebrow and listened intently.

He was just planning to walk around the mission hall today, and here Marcus began discussing related topics.

“The internal task levels of Sword Bearers start from Bronze…”

“Tasks can be categorized into designated tasks and non-designated tasks… designated tasks offer rich rewards…”

“The promotion rule is the three-tier system; if you are at the Bronze level, then earning three Bronze medals will promote you to the Silver level, and so on…”

“Team tasks can only be accepted by the team leader, a fact already known to you all…”

“Task evaluation medals, when exchanged, can be split but cannot be upgraded. That is, for example, a Gold medal can be exchanged for three Silver medals, but not the other way around.”

…

Rein nodded repeatedly.

As the only newcomer currently able to accept tasks, he listened very carefully.

Not exchangeable upwards?

Right!

Otherwise, the experts would merely farm lower-tier tasks and then exchange for higher-tier medals, causing the higher-tier tasks to lack participants, while the newcomers would have no tasks available at all.

“Finally, let me talk about loans…” Marcus drank some water before continuing.

Loans?

The listeners all appeared startled!

Rein was no exception.

“You’ve just joined the Sword Bearers, and some who weren’t previously employed in any imperial functional department probably don’t have any Merit Points, but many trainings, facilities, and potions, etc., within the division use Merit Points…”

“The organization has considered this situation and has arranged for loan measures.”

“Depending on your potential and effort, you can consume in advance and then return the borrowed Merit Points over a set period through completing tasks.”

So, it could work like this?

Rein’s eyes widened!

Then, based on his potential, ‘loaning’ to purchase defensive first-tier witchcraft, Metal Morphing Spells, Vaporizing Agents, and potent Strength potions…

Shouldn’t be too much, right?
