Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 296: Chapter 259: Creating a World-Shaking Sensation?

Inside the car.

The driver and Gu Wei were both staring in curiosity at the rearview mirror, watching the trembling young man.

Indeed, at this moment, the young man was terrified to the extreme.

He never imagined that soon after making a call with Lu Li, the other party would ”follow the phone line” and come directly to him.

In the past, the young man always considered ”following the internet line to hit someone” as an online joke.

But now, he finally understood that ”following the internet line to hit someone” was not a joke, but something truly happening!

Lu Li leaned back in the rear seat, looking calmly forward, and said indifferently, ”Introduce yourself.”

The young man dared not delay, fearing that speaking too slowly might get him killed.

He hurriedly stammered, ”Lu... Mr. Lu, my... my name is Liao Qichen. I am unemployed and a socially idle person. Besides... besides, I was really short on money, so...”

Seeing him speak hesitantly.

Gu Wei couldn’t hold back and softly scolded, ”Speak more clearly!”

Liao Qichen shivered and quickly accelerated his speech, ”So I accepted some instructions and manipulations from foreign forces, helping them with trivial tasks to earn some small money.”

Gu Wei’s expression changed, ”For example, what kind of things did you help them with?”

If it were any other time, Liao Qichen might have denied it strenuously.

After all, there was no direct evidence now proving he was being ”remote-controlled.”

But now, the big boss was sitting right beside him.

Didn’t you see the outcome of the Jalisco Group?

How could he possibly dare to utter a single lie?

Liao Qichen hurriedly said, ”Helping them make some calls, smearing our country online wherever possible. Occasionally, someone would ask me to help receive or send a package, roughly those kinds of things.”

Gu Wei said in a sinister tone, ”Do you know what crime you are committing?”

Liao Qichen laughed bitterly, ”I know, espionage.”

Gu Wei was so angry he laughed, ”You know, yet you still help foreign forces?”

Liao Qichen helplessly said, ”At first, they just asked me to post some trivial comments, and then they gave me some perks. At that time, I didn’t think much of it, believing that posting some comments to earn just enough to live was a decent living. Who knew they would later come to me, telling me about the crimes. If I didn’t want to get caught, I’d either continue the work or get jailed for three to ten years. I was scared, and then they started offering more perks, saying if I followed their orders, there would be substantial rewards, so I agreed.”

Coercion and enticement are very common means.

Liao Qichen doesn’t look very old, just about twenty-one or twenty-two.

It’s normal for him to be intimidated into compliance by coercion and enticement.

However, two wrongs don’t make a right.

Ignorance is not an excuse for crime.

As a person with a normal mind, one should know what can and cannot be done.

Lu Li is not an enforcer.

He won’t bother with what happens to Liao Qichen.

At most, he’d have Gu Wei hand him over to the respective authorities afterward.

He now had more pressing matters to inquire about.

Lu Li asked in a tone devoid of emotion, ”Which organization? How do they normally contact you?”

Liao Qichen quickly said, ”They claim to be called ’Young Eagles,’ but I haven’t seen any members of their organization. We usually contact online or wait for them to call me. I passively contact them and cannot reach out actively. Also, the computer and phone I use to contact them were delivered by them secretly, not via normal postal means.”

Passive contact?

Lu Li couldn’t help but frown slightly.

It seems this group is quite cautious.

He had scanned every item in the young man’s house moments ago.

At the time, it seemed too troublesome, so he didn’t take those items along.

Gu Wei, sharing a similar thought, frowned and said, ”By your account, you actually don’t know where they are located? How does their money get to you then?”

Liao Qichen honestly said, ”Their money is like a salary, sent on the 1st of every month, but it’s all cash. At the designated time, they would tell me where to pick it up, and the hiding spots for the money are different every time.”

Lu Li noticed a loophole immediately, ”At the start? Initially, wasn’t it online contact? How did they give you money?”

Liao Qichen recalled for a moment and said, ”Initially, they directly transferred money online, each time from a different account. I suspect they were using bought accounts.”

Gu Wei continued, ”This is quite traceable. I will immediately have someone lock in those accounts to see if we can find any clues.”

Lu Li agreed with a hum.

Gu Wei immediately took out his phone to send a message.

Lu Li asked another crucial question, ”Previously, they said they wanted my blood sample. If I gave you a blood sample, how would you hand it over to them?”

Liao Qichen replied, ”The same way as the money, after contacting online, I’d place it at the specified location.”

As expected, it confirmed the previous suspicion.

Even if pretending to give a blood sample, it’s highly unlikely to root out the real mastermind behind it.

So choosing not to compromise is indeed the right decision.

Lu Li probed, ”If I give you a blood sample now, could you get them to pick it up?”

”I’m afraid not.” Liao Qichen shook his head and explained in detail, ”During the day, they contact me every half hour through different means. If I’m out of touch for over half an hour, no matter the reason, they would assume my identity has been exposed and will cease to contact me. They stated this at the very start when they coerced and enticed me. Now that I’ve been out of touch for more than half an hour, they won’t trust me. At night, the usual contact frequency is every four hours, so I often set an alarm to wake up and respond, then go back to sleep. To be honest, ever since I started dealing with them, I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in these past six months...”

Gu Wei interrupted with a scold, ”Who told you to say so much nonsense?”

Liao Qichen shrank back, not daring to utter another word of ”nonsense.”

It seems difficult to extract more information from Liao Qichen.

Even if Gu Wei manages to trace those transfer accounts, the conclusion would probably lead to just some deceived mules.

There’s not a complete lack of gain.

At least we learned from Liao Qichen’s mouth that the other party is a tight-knit organization, lurking within Huaxia.

As long as it is confirmed that the person is not abroad, many operations can indeed be done.

Lu Li believes that with Gu Wei’s capabilities, finding those groups should be relatively easy.

He didn’t waste any more words with Liao Qichen, but instead sat there quietly waiting for Gu Wei’s feedback.

...

The car quickly drove to Jinling.

Gu Wei immediately had the driver take Liao Qichen to the police station and explained the specific reason.

Soon after, the three continued driving.

Inside the car.

Gu Wei turned his head and said, ”Mr. Lu, we have some leads on tracing the accounts.”

Lu Li seemed unaffected by the situation, remaining calm, ”Hmm, tell me about it.”

Gu Wei said, ”Based on the information I collected, these accounts are indeed like Liao Qichen said, all purchased accounts. However, we followed some clues and roughly identified the sources of these transactions. Hmm, the sources are varied. Some were deposited through ATMs by individuals, and others were transferred through specific channels. After peeling back the layers, there are approximately two remittance routes that seem particularly suspicious.”

Gu Wei explained very simply.

In reality, anyone could understand that so much effort and resources were likely used to track down something that seems so simple at first glance.

In other words, the two suspicious remittance routes discovered by the other party will most likely lead to more concrete information.

Lu Li asked, ”Which two?”

Gu Wei introduced, ”The first remittance route is through a shell company in the Cayman Islands. The registered owner of this shell company is a French person named Shirley.”

A French person?

Probably not.

Most likely just another ”pawn” bought by capital.

Lu Li kept his composure and asked, ”What about the second remittance route?”

Gu Wei’s expression turned peculiar, ”The second remittance route is from an underground organization in the Ugly Country. You’ve had contact with them.”

An underground organization in the Ugly Country?

I’ve had contact with them?

A person immediately popped into Lu Li’s head.

That’s right, it’s Cameron, the boss of California Eighteenth Street.

Lu Li asked, ”California Eighteenth Street?”

Gu Wei nodded, ”Yes, California Eighteenth Street.”

Lu Li suddenly laughed, ”Well, that’s interesting. I should have an idea of the opposing party’s identity.”

Gu Wei probed, ”Could it be Julia Giannini, someone closely related to you?”

Lu Li shook his head, ”No, but I can confirm, it’s one of the backers behind California Eighteenth Street.”

Since it’s known to be one of the backers behind California Eighteenth Street, the answer is almost obvious.

It’s well-known that Julia Giannini, as the largest backer behind California Eighteenth Street, is part of the California Consortium.

And those big conglomerates wouldn’t be foolish enough to have somewhat obvious ”enforcers” to do such things.

Therefore, California Eighteenth Street is very likely just a ”transit station.”

The reason why the other party can command California Eighteenth Street.

It’s probably that on the surface, they are part of the California Consortium, but in reality, they are members of other conglomerates.

Why is Lu Li so sure?

The reason is quite simple, the California Consortium was already infiltrated by several big conglomerates from the East in the early nineties.

How many big conglomerates are there in the East of the Ugly Country?

Indeed, there are several, but only three have the capability to infiltrate the California Consortium.

Lu Li knows this clearly.

No more than the Citibank Consortium, Morgan Consortium, and Rockefeller Consortium.

In other words, Lu Li can narrow down his target to these three conglomerates.

Lu Li will not kill the innocent, nor will he let go of anyone who harbors ill intentions towards him.

Now, he just needs to determine which of the three big conglomerates is behind it.

Then...

He could completely wipe out a massive conglomerate capable of influencing the entire Ugly Country!

Lu Li mused to himself, ”If I can uproot and destroy a conglomerate capable of influencing the entire Ugly Country, it would definitely shock the world, right? By then, I believe no one would dare have any designs on me!”

For a normal person, wanting to destroy such a powerful conglomerate would undoubtedly be a pipe dream.

However, for Lu Li, he doesn’t have to worry about consequences.

He just needs to consider whether the means are ruthless enough and whether he can seize this opportunity to intimidate all countries worldwide.

So, if he wants to destroy a big conglomerate, he only needs to address the root of the problem.

This root is nothing other than all the direct members of the conglomerate.

Lu Li blinked as he thought, ”Simply killing some people might not be enough of a deterrent. I should do something even more terrifying to make the whole world tremble!”

But what terrifying thing should be done to make the whole world tremble?

Lu Li hasn’t thought of it yet.

However, he believes that in the current complex global situation.

He will take some time to analyze it shortly.

He should be able to quickly come up with a specific plan to shock the world.

He wasn’t anxious at all; instead, he was pondering how to create a globally sensational event.
