Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 288: Chapter 261: Returning Home in Glory

The next day, in the morning.

Since there wasn’t much to do today, Lu Li decided to find something to occupy his time.

He drove all the way back to the countryside and parked the Cullinan at the doorstep of his home.

Coincidentally, the neighbor, Aunt Zhang, had just walked out of her house. Seeing Lu Li, she exclaimed, ”Xiaoli, you’ve got a new car again?”

”Aunt Zhang.” Lu Li greeted her with a smile, saying, ”The last car was hard to drive, so I got a new one.”

Aunt Zhang stared at the Cullinan, ”How much did you say the last car was? Three or four hundred thousand?”

Lu Li opened the trunk to take out the things he had brought back from Ugly Country and replied absentmindedly, ”Yes.”

Aunt Zhang guessed, ”That small car was three or four hundred thousand, so this big one must be seven or eight hundred thousand, right?”

Lu Li almost stumbled; her way of assessing a car’s value was based on its size?

He mumbled, ”More or less, about a million.”

After a short chat, Aunt Zhang left.

Hearing the commotion, his parents came outside.

They were both stunned when they saw the Cullinan.

Dad took over the luxury goods his son was holding and wondered, ”Xiaoli, where did you get so much money to change cars?”

Mom’s eyes showed a hint of worry.

Obviously, they were afraid their son might have done something illegal for profit.

It’s normal for the old couple to think this way.

After all, Lu Li hadn’t even graduated for a year, and he had spent half of it playing around.

He had only worked officially for a mere two or three months.

Even if he earned twenty thousand a month, it would only total to fifty or sixty thousand.

What happened with Lu Li?

First, he drove back a sports car worth ”three or four hundred thousand.”

Now, he bought a ”million-dollar” luxury car.

On top of that, he regularly bought luxury goods for his parents worth several thousand each.

It didn’t fit the spending level of a ”working class.”

So naturally, the old couple was worried.

Lu Li knew what his parents were concerned about.

But he couldn’t tell them he was a ”Founding Father.”

Such a thing would be too shocking, and knowing it would only make them worry more.

He thought for a moment and made up a story: ”Well, I found a wealthy girlfriend, she’s the general manager of my former company...”

”A girlfriend from your former company?” Mom quickly spotted the flaw, ”Did you quit your job?”

Lu Li replied, ”Can you let me finish?”

Dad carried the items inside, ”Let’s talk inside, it’s not good to be overheard outside.”

Lu Li closed the trunk and went inside the house with Mom.

Inside.

Lu Li sat down on a long bench.

Dad looked at his son, ”Xiaoli, what’s going on? Tell us properly.”

Mom raised her ears to listen intently.

Lu Li fibbed, ”I was dating the general manager of my former company, President Liu, her dad and brother found out and specially came to evaluate me. They thought I was pretty good and wanted me to marry Liu Kexin... um, President Liu of Vox, so they gave me a big sum of money to start a business of my own, so Kexin wouldn’t suffer by being with me.”

”Ah?” Dad was quite surprised, ”They gave you so much money that you could buy a million-dollar luxury car?”

Mom didn’t say a word, just stared at her son’s face.

Lu Li calculated his assets and then carefully extended one finger.

Dad gasped, ”Ten... ten million?”

Lu Li coughed, ”More than that.”

”More than ten million?” Dad’s heart was trembling, ”Could it be one hundred million?”

Even a hundred million wasn’t enough to justify the mansion lie.

Lu Li had no choice but to brace himself and say, ”One billion.”

Dad: ”...”

Mom: ”...”

They were both dumbfounded.

They looked at each other, their faces full of shock.

One billion?

They couldn’t even dare to imagine such a number!

Dad held it in for a long time before shakily squeezing out a sentence, ”You... you’re not lying to me, are you?”

Lu Li playfully shouted, ”Why would I lie to you? Uncle Liu is still in Su City, if you don’t believe me, I’ll invite him out for dinner tonight, and you can ask him yourselves to find out the truth?”

Seeing that Lu Li was willing to invite someone out for a face-to-face talk, Dad estimated it wouldn’t be a lie.

He exchanged a glance with his mom and weakly asked, ”President Liu’s family is so rich, they just gave you a billion as starting capital?”

This time Lu Li spoke truthfully, ”Indeed, Liu Kexin’s family is in the top ten wealthiest globally. Just look up the Forbes billionaires list, and their family is tenth.”

Dad hurriedly took out his phone and began searching.

Mom leaned over, wanting to see just how much money the Liu Family had.

A moment later, Dad looked up in shock and exclaimed, ”One... one thousand three hundred seventy billion?”

Mom’s eyes darkened, ”And that’s in US Dollars? How much would that be in RMB?”

Dad, with quite good mental arithmetic skills, quickly responded with the number, ”About a trillion.”

Mom’s breath halted, and her whole face turned red as if she were holding her breath.

Lu Li watched his parents nervously, afraid that the shock from this news would be too much for them.

Unexpectedly, Mom suddenly said in a mellow tone, ”My son has become a pretty boy.”

Lu Li nearly choked to death, come on, who talks about their own son like that?

Thankfully, Dad had a stronger psychological endurance and quickly asked, ”Hey, since your future father-in-law gave you a billion, why aren’t you focusing on your career? Why come back? Don’t waste their generosity!”

Seeing that his parents were still accepting, Lu Li grinned cheekily and said, ”Isn’t it because I missed you two? I wanted to come back and see you. Also, I bought a house in Shanghai that’s been empty with no one living in it, so I thought maybe you could stay there and give it a bit of a lived-in feel.”

Dad stubbornly said, ”No way, what about my job?”

Lu Li blinked, ”That house is meant to be my future wedding house. It cost nearly three hundred million. If you two don’t go over and guard it, what if a thief breaks in and wrecks something?”

”How much?” Dad’s eyes widened, ”Nearly three hundred million for a house?”

Mom was also startled, ”What kind of house is that expensive? A palace?”

Lu Li replied straightforwardly, ”So, do you want to go and watch the house for me?”

Dad resolutely said, ”Of course, such an expensive house, if it gets damaged by a thief because no one’s living in it, wouldn’t repairs cost millions?”

Mom nodded repeatedly, ”Yes, yes, yes, we have to take good care of this house.”

Lu Li didn’t really want his parents to house-sit, but rather hoped they could live a better life.

He knew if he didn’t frame it this way, his parents would never agree to enjoy life no matter what.

Of course, his parents had lived through hard times, and they would surely find it difficult to change their mindset.

Lu Li’s plan was to first ”trick” his parents into moving there, then give them the Cullinan outside, along with a driver, and transfer tens of millions to their account so they could travel abroad when they had nothing to do.

These things have to be done step by step and can’t be achieved overnight.

He stood up and said, ”I’ll take you to see the house first. After you’ve met Uncle Liu, then we can think about moving?”

Mom seriously nodded, ”We have to bring all the pots and pans. Looks like we need to hire a moving company.”

Lu Li patiently said, ”There’s everything in the villa; you just need to pack some clothes. Anyway, we’re not giving up on the countryside. We still have to come back for ancestor worship and things like that, right?”

They were chatting when suddenly several footsteps were heard outside.

Soon, a burst of discussion came through.

”Look, Xiaoli’s new car.”

”Wow, this car is really luxurious.”

”No kidding, Xiaoli said this car is worth upwards of a million!”

”Oh my god, how did Xiaoli become so successful? Just started working a few months ago, and already bought a luxury car worth a million?”

”He’s capable, isn’t he? Haven’t you heard Old Lu talk about it? Xiaoli was promoted to the company’s deputy manager ages ago; his salary is probably on an annual basis... yes, based on the yearly salary, plus there’s ’perks’ in the department, nothing we can envy.”

”Really envy Old Lu’s family for having such a good son. So young and already a deputy manager. Won’t he become a general manager in the future?”

The discussions outside were actually quite light.

Lu Li’s hearing was extraordinary, so he caught Aunt Zhang, Aunt Wu, and Nanny Xu gossiping.

For some reason, even though he was indifferent to life, like killing tens of thousands in Mexico without batting an eyelid, now hearing the praises of these aunts who watched him grow up, he felt utterly elated.

At that moment, Lu Li finally understood why a figure as mighty as Chu Overlord Xiang Yu would say, ”If wealthy and not return home, it’s like wearing brocade garments walking at night.”

The feeling was incredibly satisfying!

With this thought, he went out to start the car, ready to take his parents to Shanghai.

As soon as he got outside, Aunt Zhang, Aunt Wu, and Nanny Xu gathered around.

Aunt Wu, with a slightly ingratiating tone, said, ”Xiaoli, I heard from Aunt Zhang your car cost over a million?”

Seven or eight middle-aged women all perked their ears, wanting to hear if it was true.

Lu Li smiled, ”Yeah, it cost pretty much that much.”

Aunt Wu pressed on, ”Is your company’s salary very high?”

Lu Li replied, ”It’s alright.”

Aunt Wu, looking hopeful, said, ”My son is over thirty and spends all day fishing and playing games, earning five or six thousand a month, not even a girlfriend. Xiaoli, now that you’re successful, can you help him out a bit? Just getting him a job, anything would be better.”

Lu Li thought of his factory, which needed to hire a lot of people later.

He casually said, ”Sure, have Brother Zhu contact me, and when I’m free, I’ll arrange a job for him. It’ll definitely be better than now.”

Aunt Wu expressed her deep gratitude, ”Thank you, Xiaoli, thank you! Don’t leave yet, I’ll catch an old hen for you to stew and nourish yourself.”

With that, she darted off.

This scene fell into the eyes of others, leaving them even more emotional.

Aunt Zhang, Nanny Xu, and the others could finally be sure that Lu Li had indeed made it big, not just ordinary success; he could even arrange a job for Aunt Wu’s son. This made them reflect on their own children, leaving them with a sense of awe and realizing the massive gap.
