Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 285: Chapter 258: Calling a Deer a Horse

The scorching heat seemed to distort the entire earth.

Lu Li sat in the back seat of the taxi, absentmindedly watching the scenery outside the window.

”Just as Kexin said, I should get a driver.”

Lu Li thought to himself, if he had a full-time driver, he could get into the car as soon as he got off the plane, without waiting in line for a taxi.

Ring, ring, the phone rang.

Lu Li saw that it was Liu Kexin calling.

He pressed the answer button, ”Hello, Kexin, are you off work?”

On the other end, Liu Kexin’s pleasant voice came through, ”I’m at Diamond Home, have you arrived in Su City?”

Lu Li replied, ”Yes, I’m on the elevated highway near Wuzhong right now.”

Liu Kexin’s voice sounded a bit strange, ”Why don’t you come directly to Diamond Home, is that okay?”

Uh...

At first, I wasn’t allowed to go.

Now I’m being asked to go directly?

Lu Li was a bit confused, not understanding what she meant.

He puzzlingly asked, ”First, I wasn’t allowed to go, now I’m told to go, did something happen?”

Liu Kexin said somewhat helplessly, ”My dad wants to see you.”

Oh!

Turns out your dad showed up!

Lu Li roughly understood what was happening.

No surprise, Liu Kexin initially didn’t want him to go to Diamond Home, perhaps fearing her dad would vent his anger on him.

And now she was asking him to go over.

Could it be she’s ready to confront everything?

Thinking of this, Lu Li felt he had a grasp of the situation.

Without hesitation, he said, ”Okay, I can be there in at most half an hour.”

Hanging up the phone, he squinted his eyes, sitting back to ponder.

Father Liu’s visit this time mustn’t be peaceful.

Otherwise, Liu Kexin wouldn’t have initially stopped him from coming over.

Lu Li mused, since it’s come to the showdown stage, he wouldn’t need to be overly courteous to Father Liu later.

The premise is to find an excuse.

After all, the other party is his girlfriend’s father.

It wouldn’t be good to rashly confront him.

As the saying goes, one must have a justified cause.

If Lu Li wants to fall out with Father Liu,

without a legitimate reason, it doesn’t make sense.

Lu Li secretly made up his mind.

He must let Father Liu see his ”intimidating power,” making him hesitant to trouble Liu Kexin.

Hmm, he had no clue that Father Liu and Liu Ke Ping had already learned about his ”ancestor’s identity.”

...

Diamond Home.

The living room downstairs.

Liu Kexin sat on the sofa.

She glanced at Father Liu and Liu Ke Ping not far away, smoking cigars.

In her heart, she felt a bit anxious.

Just now, Liu Ke Ping suddenly went upstairs.

He asked her to call Lu Li,

indicating that Father Liu wanted to see Lu Li.

Liu Kexin wasn’t a fool.

She knew her father wanting to see Lu Li definitely wasn’t just for a casual chat.

There’s a high chance they want to persuade him to abandon the idea of being with her.

If it was any other matter, Liu Kexin could adhere to her father’s wishes without question.

But the one thing she was unwavering about was being with Lu Li.

No matter what happened, nothing could stop her from pursuing true love.

Even if it meant breaking up with her family.

Yes, she’s that determined.

It’s not that Liu Kexin was unfilial,

but she never wanted to be used as a tool for a political marriage from the beginning.

Now that she has found Lu Li, her ”true love,”

she must do her utmost to protect this ”purity.”

Liu Kexin decided, if her father was going to make things difficult for Lu Li later, she would definitely stand by her boyfriend.

Unlike Liu Kexin’s complex thoughts,

Father Liu and Liu Ke Ping were both actually quite nervous.

After all, the person they were about to meet was someone capable of turning a huge country like Mexico, with over a million square kilometers, upside down all by himself.

If they happened to say something wrong during the meeting, who knows what might happen?

Liu Ke Ping, relatively speaking, was a bit better.

Since he had met Lu Li before, he was somewhat mentally prepared.

Father Liu, however, was meeting Lu Li for the first time, unfamiliar with his temper.

He really feared that any careless words or unsatisfactory reception later might irk him, and the Liu Family couldn’t afford the consequences.

Because all three harbored different thoughts,

no one spoke for a while.

This made the atmosphere in the living room rather tense.

This further solidified Liu Kexin’s inner assumptions.

She felt no good could come from her dad calling Lu Li over.

In this tense atmosphere,

twenty minutes of torment passed.

Suddenly.

A cracking sound.

The door was opened by someone from outside.

Father Liu, Liu Ke Ping, and Liu Kexin quickly raised their heads to look toward the entrance.

The next moment, Lu Li walked in.

Liu Kexin thought her dad and brother wouldn’t acknowledge Lu Li much, so she was about to stand up to greet him to avoid her boyfriend feeling awkward.

What surprised her was that before she had the chance to stand up, Father Liu and Liu Ke Ping both sprang to their feet.

Father Liu walked quickly toward the doorway, extending his hand while laughing and said, ”Haha, finally, I get to meet you, Mr. Lu. Hello, hello, I am Kexin’s father, Liu Yeli, very pleased to meet you.”

Seeing this, Liu Kexin was stunned, not understanding her father’s intentions.

Wasn’t he supposed to be difficult?

Wasn’t he supposed to have a stern face?

Why was he now being so polite and not only that, addressing Lu Li with respect?

Liu Kexin was genuinely confused, thinking her father would first use polite means before showing force.

Don’t say Liu Kexin was a bit stunned.

Lu Li also felt somewhat surprised.

He originally thought Father Liu would show him a cold face right away, but who would have thought he’d be so polite instead.

This left Lu Li, who had been preparing to find an opportunity to make a scene, feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Lu Li extended his hand for a handshake with the other party and said with a strained smile, ”Hello, Uncle Liu, hello.”

Liu Ke Ping took the opportunity to interject, ”Mr. Lu, my dad knows you and Kexin are dating, and flew all the way from the Ugly Country just to meet you.”

The purpose of his words was to express his father’s importance on Lu Li.

However, Lu Li, combining with what Liu Kexin and Liu Ke Ping had previously said, mistakenly thought the other party came specifically to warn him, just politely, trying to make him take the hint.

Of course, since they were being polite, Lu Li couldn’t make a scene immediately.

He had to feign a smiling face and exchanged pleasantries with Liu Yeli, planning to look for an opportunity to make a scene later.

Under the enthusiastic invitation of Liu Yeli and Liu Ke Ping, Lu Li was actually pushed to the ”seat of honor” position.

Just after sitting down, Liu Yeli personally brewed a cup of tea.

And solemnly placed it on the tea table in front of Lu Li.

Lu Li and Liu Kexin exchanged glances, truly bewildered by Father Liu.

Liu Yeli, sitting on the other side, said with a smile, ”Mr. Lu, how long have you been with my daughter?”

Hearing this, Lu Li estimated the other party was getting to the main point.

Like offering money to get him to stay away from Liu Kexin.

He replied calmly, ”Not long, adding up to just over ten days.”

”Only just over ten days?” Liu Yeli seemed somewhat disappointed, ”I thought you had been together for quite a while.”

Lu Li, not understanding, asked, ”What do you mean by that?”

”Mr. Lu, have some tea first,” Liu Yeli raised his teacup to gesture, ”Let’s chat slowly after the tea.”

Lu Li picked up the teacup and contemplated.

The other party asked how long he’d been with Liu Kexin.

Could it be they were hinting that since it was short, prolonged pain shouldn’t be delayed?

No!

He couldn’t let the other party make a scene first!

If there’s a scene, I should be the first!

But what excuse should I use to make a scene?

Lu Li glanced at the teacup.

He saw typical Longjing tea leaves floating on top.

He immediately figured out what excuse to use.

Thinking, he took a sip and purposefully said, ”Hmm, this Biluochun tastes quite fragrant.”

After speaking, Lu Li’s gaze flickered as he stared at Liu Yeli and Liu Ke Ping, waiting for them to tell him it’s Longjing tea.

By then, he could say, ”Do you think I lack knowledge?”

Wouldn’t that be the cue to make a scene?

Lu Li was quite expectant.

But what almost made him choke was that Liu Yeli, upon hearing Lu Li say it’s Biluochun, was initially taken aback, then immediately beamed and said, ”Isn’t it? This Biluochun indeed has a rich fragrance, worthy of being Su City’s top-notch tea.”

Liu Ke Ping followed suit, speaking nonsense with open eyes, ”I have a few pounds of pre-Ming Long... cough, top-notch Biluochun, if Mr. Lu likes it, I’ll give you some later.”

Upon seeing this, Liu Kexin’s eyes turned dark.

Are all of you blind?

Can’t tell the difference between Longjing and Biluochun?

This is clearly Longjing!

Her mind was so tangled up she couldn’t react for a while and said speechlessly, ”Why are you calling Longjing Biluochun?”

”What Longjing?” Father Liu said with a bewildered face, ”Biluochun is Su City’s famous tea, and Mr. Lu is from Su City, how could he make a mistake?”

Liu Kexin corrected, ”But it is Biluochun...”

Liu Ke Ping quickly interrupted, ”Kexin, what’s wrong with you? You’ve grown up in the Ugly Country, do you know Biluochun better than Mr. Lu, who’s been in Su City since childhood?”

Liu Kexin was starting to question her sanity after hearing her father’s and brother’s words.

She looked at the tea leaves in the cup suspiciously, wondering if she really couldn’t tell the difference between Longjing and Biluochun?

But upon reflection, it didn’t add up.

Biluochun’s leaves are fine.

Longjing’s leaves are sheet-like.

The difference is significant!

Suddenly, Liu Kexin seemed to have thought of something and suddenly realized it!

That’s right, she thought of the ”point deer as horse” idiom, isn’t it exactly like the current situation?

This made Liu Kexin even more bewildered.

Not understanding why her father and brother suddenly feared Lu Li so much.

And they feared him to the point of ”lying with open eyes.”

Even Liu Kexin understood what was going on.

Lu Li certainly couldn’t miss the attitude of Liu Family father and son.

He figured it out.

Nevermind that he just called Longjing Biluochun.

Even if he claimed the tea was brewed with brown sugar, the father and son would still go along with him!

Without a doubt, the father and son must have discovered some information.

Therefore, they were so flattering.

Once he understood, Lu Li roughly guessed the Liu Family father and son wouldn’t oppose his relationship with Liu Kexin anymore.

If that’s the case, there’s no reason to make things difficult.

He expressed politely, ”Uncle Liu, you came all the way from the Ugly Country. As the younger generation, should I host a banquet tonight to welcome you?”

Liu Yeli had been waiting for this line.

He couldn’t help but beam and exclaim, ”Great, great, great, you’re too generous.”

Lu Li chuckled, ”What are you saying? You are Kexin’s father, and if I marry Kexin in the future, won’t you be my future father-in-law? Giving a warm welcome to my future father-in-law is what a young person should do.”

Liu Kexin’s face instantly turned red, and she sneaked a glance at her father to see his final reaction.

Actually, Lu Li also meant to clarify things, to see if Liu Yeli would give a clear response on his and Liu Kexin’s relationship.

Liu Yeli was still worried that Lu Li might play around.

Now upon hearing him address him as ”future father-in-law.”

He couldn’t have been more thrilled internally.

Liu Yeli quickly said, ”Okay, since Mr. Lu is so thoughtful, I won’t refuse.”

Liu Ke Ping joined in, ”Let me check which restaurant in Su City is good and book a private room in advance.”

The three of them were chatting merrily.

Liu Kexin, however, grew more perplexed.

She truly didn’t understand why her father and brother’s attitude had changed so quickly.

Suddenly, Liu Kexin recalled that before Lu Li arrived, her father and brother had told her to go up and said they wanted to chat privately.

She couldn’t help but secretly speculate if her father and brother had learned something shocking about Lu Li, leading to their abrupt change in attitude?

It’s important to note that the issue of Lu Li’s ”true identity” had been lingering in Liu Kexin’s mind for a long time.

Now she vaguely guessed that her father and brother knew about Lu Li’s situation and was thinking of asking them properly later that night when they had the chance.

Liu Kexin truly wanted to know just how earth-shattering her boyfriend’s ”true identity” was to make her father and brother, who were such business moguls, show such reverence?
