Chapter 1250: Chapter 34: Breakthrough!_4

The warriors were panting heavily, their chests heaving violently as they struggled to run.

They surged forward along the steel plates laid across the trenches by the engineering mecha; the densely packed boots made the steel plates tremble and bend. Some soldiers couldn’t get on and had to swarm down into the trenches, then desperately climb back up.

Ahead was the armored group, desperately pushing forward; behind them were thousands of closely following infantry. The entire formation resembled a massive spearhead, fiercely thrusting forward in the front, while the rear desperately expanded and fortified the flanks. Every trench and fortress was a brutal offensive and defensive struggle. From above, one would see countless crisscrossing light chains of gunfire and cannon shots, all engaged in fierce fighting, all willing to go down together.

By this time, tactics and plans had been thrown out the window, leaving only the drive to move forward, forward. The mecha group at the forefront was advancing almost inch by inch. The frenzied counterattacks from the Jiepeng mecha were pushed aside by them and the infantry behind them, using their bodies, firepower, and the fusion hand grenades strapped to their bodies.

The Jiepeng defense was just east of the town entrance; once they broke through and entered the town, they could spread out and break through to the hills and farmland behind the town. Beyond that was the Northern Mountain Region where even the gods couldn’t find them!

Life and death hang in the balance of each breath!

”How’s it going?!” Inside the command mecha, Li Cunxin had lost his previous calm composure. Even though he was battle-hardened, this was one of the most dangerous battles he had ever faced.

Surrounded in front, pursued from behind. Their armored force was only one-half to one-third the size of the enemy’s. What’s worse is that the entire Canglang Star was under enemy control. Previously in the mountain blockade, the main force still had sufficient space to maneuver and had ample choke points for defense, leaving the enemy unable to track their movements. But now, the entire main force was exposed and concentrated here in a do-or-die effort.

Now, it’s no longer a game of hide-and-seek but a race against death.

Time was extremely precious for the Chuckna Army. According to calculations, within three hours, Jiepeng could deploy their transport ships to air-drop one or two armored camps into this area. Within four hours, the pursuing Jiepeng Army could catch up. If the troops couldn’t break through in one go, the consequences would be unimaginable.

”Can’t break through.” Pei Litong’s voice had become extremely hoarse; his face was haggard, lips dry and cracked like a crust, his gaze flickering like a candle flame in the dark, fixed on the SkyNet battle report without moving, ”Group One is stuck in Zone 5, tried to break through three times but failed. The fortified positions on the flanks have been compressed by twenty percent, the electronic advantage is at the critical point and could collapse at any moment....”

”When will they make the fourth attempt?!” Li Cunxin paced back and forth like a trapped beast.

”They’re charging now!” Balmer said gritting his teeth and in a deep voice: ”Two companies have already pushed through. The Jiepeng people have set up numerous overlapping fire points in that area, making the fire blockade extremely formidable. The warriors are risking their lives to bite through it piece by piece. If they fail to get through this time....”

Balmer didn’t continue. The terrifying outcome twisted his heart in pain.

Li Cunxin stared directly at the battle report, on the real-time simulated situation map, a red arrow repeatedly attacked the blue defensive line. Behind the red arrow, unit numbers that initially maintained some distance were gradually piling up together. On either side of this path, countless blue attack arrows kept pressing towards the center.

The atmosphere inside the command mecha was heavy and hot. The extremely tense atmosphere kept everyone tightly on edge. On the SkyNet screen, that constantly surging red arrow tugged at everyone’s heart.

Suddenly, a roar came from the sky.

Whoosh... A Jiepeng fighter screamed past, followed soon by a second and a third.

A squadron of ten jets flew low, firing missiles and energy cannons into the crowd of Chuckna soldiers. After two of them were shot down by ground missiles, the remaining jets rolled away into the distance, then turned back to launch another concentrated attack on the wings of the channel.

A SkyNet aide turned his head.

Li Cunxin closed his eyes, Pei Litong stared rigidly at his clenched fists, while Balmer bit his lip, head lowered. They didn’t hear the aide’s trembly voice say anything.

They knew the fourth attack had failed. The troops risking their lives to break through did not manage to tear open the frantically concentrated Jiepeng defense line. The two leading companies were completely wiped out, with no survivors.

Despite having expended all their missiles, the fighter jets above continued to dive and ravage.

At this moment, the whole world turned black and white. White light, black smoke, and soldiers falling amidst the explosions and light chains of energy machine gun fire....

”Boom!”

An energy bullet grazed Lorne’s mecha, creating a huge crater in the ground. The violent explosion’s shockwave slammed against the mecha violently. The energy shield changed from light red to deep red.

”Commander!”

Two mecha shielded Lorne from left and right, firing at the surrounding Jiepeng mecha and urgently asked: ”What should we do?!”

”What should we do? Charge!” Lorne stabilized the mecha forcefully, eyes red with determination: ”Today we fight to the death here!”

”Boom!” A missile traced a winding tail of light in the air, striking a Chuckna mecha. The mecha that had already lost its energy shield instantly shattered into pieces.
