Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1215: Chapter 24: Life-or-Death Battle 3 (Part 2)

The troops march silently forward.

Over two thousand ragged Chuckna soldiers formed three columns, each approximately two hundred meters long. The battlefield full of wreckage in the valley had faded into the distance behind them, and all that could be seen was the billowing black smoke rising towards the sky from the horizon.

The troops moved westward along the valley at a fast pace. When the warriors looked up, they could see the ten Spirit Cats leaping along the ridges on either side of the formation.

In this mountainous jungle, these ten Spirit Cats were like ten fierce tigers. As long as their figures were visible, even if the path ahead was filled with brambles, the warriors felt a sense of bravado and confidence.

Ten minutes ago, those hundred Jiepeng Special Mechas were cut down like melon slices by these ten Mech Knights! And along this journey, seeing them in motion, many of the Jiepeng’s Reconnaissance Mechas were eliminated even before they could approach the formation. With these Mech Knights clearing the way, who could block their path?

According to Major Li Weiguo, throughout the night, they had traversed three hundred kilometers and ambushed three Jiepeng Armored Battalions! Their losses were merely a few damaged mechas.

Even for an ambush, such achievements were astonishing!

Fatty manipulated the control lever with his left hand, slightly adjusting the mecha’s direction, while his right hand subconsciously flew over the virtual keyboard. The mecha lightly kicked its legs and gracefully leaped onto a steep slope of the ridge.

The view suddenly expanded.

The fiery red sun among the streaks of morning glow spread its golden light over the mountain region. The distant peaks, nearby forests, and valley streams came vibrant under this golden glow.

Fatty felt relieved and inspired. With a clear shout, he excitedly recited.

”Damn, doesn’t it look amazing!”

In the distance, a ridge vaguely revealed its form between several mountain peaks.

The Mechanical Computer map marked an elevation on that ridge. Fatty knew that was High Ground 415, also his ultimate destination for this march.

It would act as an iron gate, firmly blocking the pursuing Jiepeng army to the east of High Ground 415!

Most importantly, Li Cunxin would be there, and Boswell and Milan too!

Thinking of Milan, Fatty felt as though his once hard-hearted, battle-hardened heart softened at that moment. He smacked his lips and couldn’t help but lament how heroes are weakened by love. No matter how magnificent a hero is, he inevitably yields at the beauty’s door.

Once the war ends, perhaps on this secluded yet beautiful mountaintop, constructing a villa and being with Milan on the viewing balcony...

An electric current coursed from his buttocks up his spine, bursting to the top of his head, making every pore gleam with delight—this was true elegance.

Nevertheless, for now, the priority was to stay alive.

The two thousand Chuckna prisoners hurried west with rapid marching speed. Compared to the mecha, it felt like a snail’s pace. After about twelve minutes, the formation had advanced merely three kilometers.

This was the utmost capability of the exceedingly fatigued Chuckna warriors. After all, their bodies couldn’t allow them to run any faster. Also, a procession of two thousand people couldn’t move like a small troop. Not only did the slower ones impede the speed, but the formation itself stretched five hundred meters.

The mecha leapt over a rocky hilltop and descended before climbing up another ridge like a monkey using hands and feet. Fatty anxiously waited as the formation slowly passed by.

There was still another armored battalion of the enemy ahead. If it were an ambush, Fatty wouldn’t take these foes seriously. Yet clearly, they were well-prepared while on the contrary, Fatty’s side was exhausted, with two thousand weakened prisoners possessing merely over a hundred guns and a few energy cannons dismantled from mechas, having no defensive ability at all.

To protect this troop with extremely weak mobility and through the enemy’s assault territory, the Mecha Regiment couldn’t operate in the same combat manner as before. Otherwise, the warriors would be greeted by overwhelming artillery and a harvest by death itself. It wouldn’t matter if the enemy had an entire battalion of over three hundred mechas, even if only a tenth breached the formation, it would be tragic!

After repeated simulations, while Fatty cleverly led Pipi alone with five immobile electronic mechas and remotely controlled ten equally immobile War Elephant Medium Mechas to ambush, successfully mobilizing the 172nd Division, this diversionary tactic could only be sustained for half an hour. As soon as any battalion of the 172nd Division managed to break free from electronic suppression, Pipi would be forced to flee hurriedly.

Yet the Jiepeng forces, upon realizing the deception, would rush back at greater speed! The return travel time wouldn’t exceed an hour. In Fatty’s predictive simulations, their ambush locations were merely twenty minutes away.

That meant as soon as in half an hour, the Jiepeng army could return!

If High Ground 415 had enough troops able to launch an assault, Fatty might feel more at ease. But presently, the omnipresent strong electronic interference from the Jiepeng assault units shielded everything west of High Ground 415. Even at places where one could possibly see from High Ground 415 through a long-range viewer, communication was unlikely.
