Chapter 1188: Chapter 8-16: Breakout (Part 2)

But the voices of these people hardly made any ripples in the parliament. The lower house members, representing the ruling parties and governments of each country, looked on cautiously. The upper house, however, was in an uproar. Most of the members were unwilling to release power to the member countries, fearing the loss of their influence. They preferred to believe that the Western Alliance would not dare to brazenly initiate war.

This situation persisted until the outbreak of war!

When countries like the Feiyang Republic, the Ryan Republic, and the Chuckna Republic, all member countries of the Fei Alliance, had already declared war on various Western Alliance countries, when the unprepared Fei Alliance countries were disarmed by the strong offensive of the Western Alliance. Only then did the parliament successively pass resolutions, acknowledging the state of war, lifting restrictions on national military forces, and authorizing presidents to issue wartime mobilization.

This was merely stripping the trousers to fart. At that time, Western Alliance media heavily mocked this.

”The Fei Alliance countries finally couldn’t wait for their slow parliament authorization. It’s unclear whether the state of war should count from the day of self-declaration by each country or the day the parliament passed its resolution, there’s a week’s gap in between! This is truly a muddled battle.”

This time, the always boastful parliament members lost face.

Nominally, the United Parliament is still the highest authority of the Fei Alliance. But in the ensuing war, they were essentially irrelevant. The Supreme Command Department, transformed from another power institution of the Fei Alliance, the Governing Council, and the Alliance Command Center jointly established by the governments and military of each country, took over most of the power. This encompassed not only military aspects but other aspects as well.

For parliament members like Kerry, nothing is more tragic than losing influence.

For hundreds of years, the Fei Alliance Joint Congress, whether it be the national party governments of the lower house or the free members of the upper house, had formed countless interest communities due to various forces. Among them were corporate and plutocratic interests, party collaborations and confrontations, and the interests of political families like the Kerry family.

Kerry’s father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were all free members of the United Parliament. The United Parliament is the source of all of the Kerry family’s power. But now, this source is drying up.

They also want to take back power, to enter the decision-making level of the war and lead the war.

However, in front of them stands a towering mountain they cannot surpass—Hastings!

The Command Department listens to Hastings, the Command Center listens to Hastings, the public listens to Hastings, and even many members of parliament hold a near-blind trust in Hastings.

The influence of the Military God, who single-handedly established the thirty-year rule of the Feiyang, is enough to make the entire United Parliament hold their noses and agree with all his decisions!

However, holding their noses is only temporary. Kerry, along with some other bustling members, doesn’t want to suffocate themselves. Even with Hastings, they want to wrestle!

In their view, Hastings is ultimately a soldier. A soldier who can fight a war should be on the front line, dealing with wartime matters. The loss of the Fei Alliance’s leadership by the United Parliament is a regression of the democratic system!

They have been looking for an opportunity. Recently, with the setbacks of the Fei Alliance in various war zones, the voices questioning Hastings have become increasingly loud. Hastings remained silent, hardly giving any guidance on the war situation.

And the Longbow Battle that happened at this time clearly gave Kerry and his allies a good excuse. Their first step is to use this as an opportunity to form a resolution, to influence military affairs.

Then, they would climb up the pole step by step, expanding their influence, and initiate more proposals. To make the member countries, to make each general understand that the power of the United Parliament still exists!

If they don’t want to become the second Leray Federation, if they don’t want their spoils of war to be taken away for some reason, then they should bow their proud heads to the great parliament members.

Gambier leisurely took a sip of coffee. He handed the topic to Kerry, who jumped out eagerly. This pleased him. Although he disliked these politicians, he disliked even more the concentration of power in Hastings’ hands.

Moreover, it seemed that Kerry, in his current state, is obviously interested in drawing in Leefer.

To challenge Hastings, you can’t do it without the military! A senior general with a powerful army is more useful than a hundred powerless parliament members!

The two of them listened to the music knowingly, not continuing the issue of who gave the check on the table. There was plenty of time in the future anyway.

”Oh, I forgot to mention some bad news.....” Gambier put down the coffee cup, drooping his eyes, and said nonchalantly: ”I heard that the spaceship of the Leray Major General named Tian Xingjian has already crashed on Canglang Star. It’s truly saddening.”

”Really?!” Kerry was taken aback and couldn’t help sitting up straight.

Seeing Gambier nod, a faint smile of realization appeared on his lips: ”This is truly a pity.”

Without this person who effectively leads the bandit army, perhaps the exiles in Mars might not have much loyalty to Russell. These criminals, liars, and thieves never cared about morals and principles. As long as the price is right, there’s nothing they wouldn’t sell! If someone were sent over now to make contact with the elders of the Sect Mutual Aid Alliance, to make them choose between Russell and the United Parliament, the result might be clear.
