Chapter 1167: Chapter 10: Sniper_3

The aide beside him gathered things from the ground while tremblingly answering, ”Not yet, Commander. The messages we sent back need to go through division headquarters to the fleet for relay. The fleet hasn’t replied yet.”

”Hmph!” Corleone snorted coldly, ”Silent and unnoticed, they took out thirteen of my men. I want them to pay me back double for this debt!”

As he spoke, Corleone swept his eyes sharply over the aide beside him, ”Order the Second Company and Third Company to speed up the attack pace. This assault must succeed and cannot fail. Within half an hour, I want us on the position!”

”Yes!” The aide turned and picked up the communicator.

Corleone lifted a jug of water, just bringing it to his mouth when he heard the aide exclaim, ”What?”

Corleone spat out a mouthful of water, angrily threw the jug to the ground, and glared at the pale-faced aide.

The aide turned his head back and stammered, ”Commander........ the First Company Commander was sniped, the Second Company Commander, also.... was sniped!”

As the Mecha’s attention finally left the rifle position that had already been swept to a pulp, when Samson poked his head out again, he discovered that the Jiepeng Captain was already down, slumped against the fallen trunk of a green willow pine.

His body resembled a gray blanket draped over the trunk. His head hung towards the ground. The red-and-white funnel-shaped hole in the back of his head told everyone the cause of his death.

Only the Jiepeng Captain’s shoulder insignia, made of three brass wolf heads, remained intact and tactile.

Who pulled off this headshot?

Samson fiercely squeezed the trigger, the M26 in his hands spraying energy bullets at twenty rounds per second into an arc. The bullet chain tore into the ground two hundred meters away, stripping the tree trunks of their brown bark and blasting out rows of ricochet marks sending wood chips flying. Several Jiepeng soldiers, alternating assaults behind cover, were pinned in place, unable to do more than occasionally fire a few shots while slowly looking for opportunities to suppress fire.

Finally, a Jiepeng soldier seized the chance and set up an energy machine gun between a two-meter diameter boulder and an enormous tree that two people could hold hands around. Blam blam blam..... a row of energy bullets swept the ground within a meter of Samson, pounding an earthen bulletproof wall with muffled thuds.

”Damn it!” Samson tried to attack the machine gun but his angle was blocked by the blue rock. Aside from the gun spraying firepower at him, he could only see the foe’s half helmet.

With the machine gun providing cover fire, several Jiepeng soldiers on the other side began to stir restlessly.

Under Jiepeng Empire’s training, said to be the toughest army training in the universe, these soldiers quickly used the terrain cover, pulling sideways left and right as they advanced, coordinating with the machine gun to form crossfire.

After taking down a Jiepeng soldier, Samson huddled back.

He breathed heavily, difficultly pulling out the energy box from his tactical vest, and loaded it into the M26.

The energy bullets overhead sounded like rain battering a roof, creating a constant pitter-patter. Occasionally, several exceedingly thin light chains flew overhead, hitting the pit wall behind the trenches. Shattered soil of varying sizes scattered into the pit.

It seemed..... they couldn’t hold on any longer!

Counting within the trench only yielded around a dozen people. The wounded lying on the muddy ground, those with minor injuries still wrapped themselves up and persevered. While those seriously injured kept a few medics busy, sweating buckets.

The position’s firepower was unable to stop the enemy’s advance. Occasionally able to suppress them slightly, as soon as the Jiepeng people lay down to counterattack, they were immediately suppressed again. Sticking his head out again, the distance had shrunk by dozens of meters. Adding on the constantly posturing ”Fushan” Mecha, within a few minutes the Jiepeng people would rush in and mash this position like tofu.

Samson carefully hung two Fusion Hand Grenades onto his tactical vest. Placing the trigger at the most accessible position. This was his last resort for when the enemy finally breached the position. As long as he pressed it lightly, he would take with him several Jiepeng unlucky souls to the grave.

The machine gun fire above never ended.

Samson had no idea how much further the enemy within his area advanced during this brief time. Glancing around, it seemed time to switch shooting positions. Several open shooting positions were still available now.

”Bang”......... A faint gunshot rang from behind.

Sideways, Samson knew without looking back that it was that fatty with the sniper rifle running and shooting randomly.

Sure enough, before he could turn around, Fatty was already before him, crawling ten meters away to poke out and fire once, then quickly retreating to poke out and fire again. Whether he hit or not was irrelevant, like a rabbit he kicked his leg and leapt forward.

”Damn.” Samson grinned, ”His motions are quite Gone with the Wind........”

He envied that lively Fatty a bit. Being ignorant to death at this point could be considered a certain state of being.

Suddenly, he cocked his head and listened, realizing something was amiss.

The machine gun sounds above had stopped.

Samson swiftly poked his gun out and sprayed a volley, consecutively taking out two Jiepeng soldiers rushing with their butts sticking up, only then noticing that the machine gun hidden between the rock and tree had fallen silent. The gunner’s helmet was nowhere to be seen, only visible was bark stripped from the tree’s side and a pool of startling blood.

Observing the bloodstain location, and then looking at his own position, the shocking thought suddenly jumped into his mind........ He swiftly turned his head. Twenty meters to his left, at the forward position of the zigzag trench, Fatty quickly poked out and fired. A Jiepeng Sergeant had just rallied nearby soldiers for a charge, when his head exploded.

This time, Fatty didn’t immediately shift position, firing three shots from the same spot.

Each shot found a target. A sergeant, a corporal, and a gunner who had just set up a machine gun! Three nearly simultaneous mist-blood eruptions burst into the sunlight and green jungle slope, hauntingly vivid!

Samson swiftly scanned around, the sight no longer showed a single Jiepeng Officer....... Those officers shouting, driving soldiers, or madly leading charges, those officers that each assault filled his entire vision, in this sunlit strange world.... completely vanished!

”God!” Samson’s mind went blank.

He stared blankly at the sneaky, fat figure, in this moment, the whole world seemed to have lost both color and sound.

Within this second or tenth of a second of stupor, suddenly, the ground began to tremble intensely. A shadow flashed past him.

An oddly shaped Mecha, leapt out of the position!
