Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1153: Chapter 8-5: Jungle Fatty (2)

Sun Ping calculated his current position, distance, and angle relative to the Jiepeng Soldiers.

Not far away, the spaceship wreckage lay quietly in a large crater, billowing black smoke. The crashed mountain’s landslide concealed the crater with fallen trees and rocks. From Sun Ping’s angle, only the spaceship’s bow was visible.

It wasn’t a Western Alliance spaceship, nor a Fei Alliance one.

Sun Ping gestured to the rear while observing the spaceship. He immediately recognized it as an armed merchant ship. The merchant ship had an unusual design, featuring a massive ramming beak at the bow. The insignia partially revealed through the gaps between the fallen branches and leaves was something Sun Ping had never seen before.

Sun Ping slowly turned over and looked towards the four o’clock direction.

A companion confirmed his signal.

Sun Ping nodded, not launching an attack, instead hiding himself better. Though the Jiepeng people were right before him, he needed more intelligence to support his judgment rather than rashly dragging his comrades into an encounter.

Although judging from the spaceship crash and the survivors being hunted, it was largely concluded that these people were against the Jiepeng, Sun Ping still dared not make reckless moves. A mistaken judgment or an impulsive rescue could potentially cause irreparable harm to his comrades and position behind him.

Sun Ping stealthily extended his weapon, using peripheral vision to monitor the increasingly close Jiepeng Soldiers while tensely scouting the jungle, attempting to identify the target of the Jiepeng people’s pursuit.

However, besides the aimless gunfire of the Jiepeng Soldiers, the jungle remained silent.

Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the tall canopy, as if descending countless golden ropes into the jungle. The mottled sunlight made the vibrant jungle more dazzling. Red, yellow, and green leaves, black-brown soil, although not dense, still obscured the distant mist, underbrush, and wild grass, simply making it a sight killer.

The earpiece registered only the cautious footsteps and breaths of five Jiepeng Soldiers faintly visible amidst the jungle.

Sun Ping began to feel puzzled.

The gunfire had been furious for a long time. He originally anticipated at least twenty people exchanging fire, but upon arriving here, he saw only five Jiepeng Soldiers. More puzzling was that these Jiepeng Soldiers were shooting aimlessly. Whenever there was a little breeze or rustle, they would immediately spray bullets.

Their behavior seemed intent on exposing themselves.

Are these the Jiepeng warriors who are claimed to have the highest army quality in the universe?! Sun Ping sneered. About forty meters ahead of him, a short-statured Jiepeng Warrior panted heavily. His eyes protruded outward, streaked with blood-red threads. His hands were trembling slightly. The heavy breathing accompanied by his neurotic gaze made him look like a wild boar surrounded by a pride of lions.

Fear! This isn’t the expression of a pursuer! A thought jumped into Sun Ping’s mind, followed by an invisible current, suddenly climbed from his spine to his scalp, causing it to explode!

Someone!

”Don’t move!” A low voice sounded in Sun Ping’s ear, followed by his entire body becoming numb, and the gun in his hand was suddenly gone. His body was then swiftly pulled to the side of a large tree.

”Tell your comrades... four o’clock direction, the Cornelian below that signaling to you, and seven o’clock direction, the sniper and moving firepoint toward nine o’clock...” The person covering Sun Ping’s mouth said calmly, ”Tell them, hehe, I mean no harm.”

”Who are you?!”

An empty blank filled Sun Ping’s mind.

As a seasoned reconnaissance soldier, he never dreamed he’d be caught without a chance to resist. Even more terrifying was that the other party not only caught him instantly but also knew precisely his comrades’ positions, even the snipers’ hidden locations. Moreover, the tree he and the other party were currently hiding under was right in his comrades’ shooting blind spot.

All this could only indicate that the other party was a master skilled in jungle warfare, possessing rich experience and terrifying prowess to dictate life and death in this jungle!

Not far away, the Jiepeng Soldiers were still cautiously searching, with wide eyes desperately trying to see through the silent, dense bushes, trying to see through each tree that seemed gloomy even in the sunlight.

They looked so ridiculous. However, Sun Ping, couldn’t laugh at all. He finally understood the tension and fear of those Jiepeng warriors — knowing such a ghostly existence was nearby would evoke that expression in anyone!

His heartbeat accelerated, his ears buzzed with hallucinations from brain congestion.

”Buzz... buzz...” A series of tiny energy bullets swept into a bush. A Jiepeng Soldier, due to a faint rustle, fired frantically. This demonstrated just how panicked these so-called pursuers had become.

”Brother,” the voice behind him was soothing, ”I’m Tian Xingjian, a Federation Major General, Chief of Staff and First Army Commander of the Allied Southeastern War Zone Mars Front Army! The crashed spaceship is mine. Over there, there are dozens of my brothers.”
