Chapter 1155: Chapter 8: The Outpost

The bandit army soldiers, following behind six Chuckna Warriors, sped through the jungle.

The sound of gunfire and explosions drew closer with the warriors’ advance. As they rounded the mountain’s bend, the positions fortified on the hilltop became faintly visible.

”Boom!” With a deafening roar, a burst of red light suddenly flashed through the gaps in the forest.

Countless clods of earth were hurled into the sky by the violent explosion, making the branches and leaves of the dense forest crackle. Smoke and dust dispersed in all directions. Puffs of black and white smoke formed a black cloud covering the ground, rolling and transforming into strange shapes in the air, slanting with the wind towards the horizon. The entire mountain trembled amidst the constant explosions.

Fatty gritted his teeth, running at the very front of the formation alongside the six Chuckna soldiers.

He hadn’t experienced such a scene for a long time. Ever since escaping from New Rome City with Meiduo and Nia to Gallipalan, most of his battles were fought in the Mecha. Although equally dangerous, the Mecha’s energy shield and armor always provided him a sense of security.

Fatty had always believed that of all battles, infantry warfare was the most perilous.

There’s no need to look for other reasons to prove it; just consider the casualty numbers and ratios of infantry in every war, and you know how close these unfortunate souls with just guns and flesh for armor are to death every day.

Thinking of the Jiepeng Soldiers like waves charging up the mountain, and realizing he had to stand before them and defend a damned position, Fatty felt his face turning slightly pale.

Defending the position, fighting to the death without retreat! It sounded so heroic, so full of vigor and bravery. It’s the best topic to impress the ladies.

But, oh God, you have to survive for it to count!

Positions are lifeless, whether they’re impregnable fortresses around a city or temporary trenches on a hilltop, in the enemy’s SkyNet System, they’re nothing more than fixed coordinates. Defending the position is no different from putting yourself on someone’s target and getting shot, trembling all over. To survive, you can only pray those bullets and shells have eyes to fly around you!

Clearly, this is a daydream.

Fatty ran while envisaging all sorts of possibilities in his mind, terrified. Fear comes from the unknown. Damn right! No one knows which shell will ruin his rosy life.

Dozens of figures leapt and sprinted through the jungle, rushing towards the position like meteors.

Just tens of meters away from the position, they could see the light enveloping it through gaps in the trees. The blinding red light of fusion hand grenades, the white light of portable energy cannons, and the flashes of energy machine guns and rifles firing intensely, like tens of thousands of electric-firecrackers exploding.

Behind these flashes, the silhouettes of Jiepeng Soldiers began to vaguely appear at the position’s forefront!

”Kill!”

Captain Chuckna Nash roared fiercely, charging with his bayonet towards the chest of a Jiepeng Soldier who had entered the trenches.

The Jiepeng Soldier who had just set foot on the position, his pupils contracted rapidly, reflexively swung his gun sideways, trying to deflect Nash’s bayonet. But, with a fierce tremor of Nash’s arms, the bayonet on the muzzle still precision-pierced his heart.

Blood spurted out violently with the withdrawn bayonet, like a burst water pipe. The Jiepeng Soldier rolled his eyes and fell headlong into the muddy trench.

Nash wiped the blood and grime off his face and faced another Jiepeng Soldier charging into the trench.

Beside him, a machine gunner, already wounded in multiple places, still poured fire down the hillside, while other Chuckna warriors, gritting their teeth without looking up, continued shooting at the waves of skirmish lines advancing toward the position. Although at least five or six Jiepeng Soldiers broke through the firepower blockade and charged onto the position, Nash could only gather an equal number of warriors to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy, including himself.

Even though they’re fighting desperately, Nash knew the battle had reached its end.

The fully equipped company of over 160 men now had only twenty or thirty remaining. All personnel, including clerks, mechanic soldiers, and cooks from various squads, had been thrown into the front line.

As the Jiepeng forces charged into the position, there was no chance to call in more people for hand-to-hand combat, and even so, the position’s firepower was insufficient to block the enemy. In the blink of an eye, the enemies rushed closer by ten meters.

Nash’s bayonet was as quick as lightning, and the opponent’s bayonet was equally swift. In less than five seconds, each had thrust more than a dozen times. During the blocks, they exchanged two non-fatal yet terrifyingly grim wounds. Forcefully deflecting the opponent’s thrust, Nash stepped back, his bayonet shaking intensely to force his opponent back.

A second’s standoff, Nash panted desperately. The enemy before him was tall and sturdy, his gray Jiepeng uniform seemingly about to burst from his bulging muscles. Just one exchange, and Nash knew he had met a master in hand-to-hand combat.

The opponent’s strength was immense, movements simple yet effective, clearly a seasoned veteran. The Jiepeng Mars M81 rifle he’s wielding struck at extremely tricky angles every thrust. With each clash, Nash could feel an unanticipated vibration from the opponent’s bayonet, numbing his hands. If not for his fast footwork, a few openings might have cost him his life.

His fatigued body couldn’t endure much longer. His sore arms could hardly withstand the opponent’s next assault. Nash locked eyes with his opponent, wanting to take these lifeless eyes as his lifetime’s final impression into eternal darkness.

Even in death, there’s no escape!

```
The Jiepeng soldier moved. Like lightning, a knife, like a venomous snake, from bottom to top, aimed at Nash’s chest.
Clash! Nash’s gun had already collided with the opponent’s bayonet. However, apart from a piercing metal scraping sound, the opponent’s gun did not budge an inch. It still stabbed along the original path.
Just as Nash was completely hopeless, suddenly, a burst of blood exploded from the Jiepeng soldier’s head.
Red blood mixed with white brain fluid sprayed from a piece of flipped skull. This Jiepeng soldier’s head jerked to the side, leaned against the trench’s composite bulletproof wall, and slid softly into the mud.
Reflexively, Nash turned his head to see dozens of people suddenly bursting out from the jungle behind the position.
Leading the charge was Sunx Ping, who was running while maintaining a shooting posture, steadily pressing the gun against his shoulder for quick precision shots. Beside him was Feng Laos, who stopped as soon as he emerged from the woods. Constantly zigzagging, using his sniper rifle to kill the Jiepeng soldiers in the trenches, each shot hitting flesh. Behind them, four other Chuckna Warriors also fired as they ran.
Strict training allowed these soldiers to concentrate their firepower, quickly clearing the position and firmly blocking the newly emerging wave of Jiepeng soldiers at the front of the position.
But what most drew Nash’s attention was not his few savior-like subordinates, but a Fatty running beside Sunx Ping!
That Fatty didn’t have an automatic rifle in his hand; he was holding only a broom handle gun. Yet this broom handle gun was simply more terrifying than a P29 energy machine gun. As long as Fatty swung his hand, energy bullets poured forward like a torrential rain. Just one glance, and Nash broke out in a cold sweat. Fatty seemed to want to wipe out everyone on the entire battlefield.
After he killed a Jiepeng soldier, Nash noticed that his subordinate who had just fought with that soldier was completely stunned by the energy bullets that enveloped them. When the full-of-holes Jiepeng soldier fell, the dazed Chuckna Warrior’s first instinct was to check how many holes were in his own body. The result was that not even a smudge was found—only luck and a miracle could explain it.
Nash did not know where that Fatty came from. All he knew was that he really wanted to punch Fatty! Just moments ago, he almost lost one of his soldiers.
And that Fatty was definitely a rookie!
Not only was Fatty shooting randomly, but he was also wearing a General’s Uniform. The Major General rank epaulette on his shoulder practically made him a beacon in the night. Radiating light, eye-catching and stupid!
The Jiepeng people who rushed into the position didn’t even need to think to make a choice. As soon as he appeared, he immediately became the target of their attack.
Thankfully, this situation did not last long.
The precarious defense line seemed to be solidified again. The Chuckna Warriors on the battlefield, seeing the sharpshooter Feng Laos and the most competent Reconnaissance Soldier Sunx Ping return, bringing back more than thirty soldiers in blue uniforms, instantly boosted their spirits. The Chuckna Soldiers who nearly flooded the trenches were actually pushed back out by them.
Faced with the suddenly fierce firepower, the Jiepeng people were visibly confused.
Especially those Jiepeng soldiers running at the back, seeing their comrades throttled by intense firepower just steps away from reaching the battlefield, each involuntarily slowed their assault. And the sudden appearance of dozens of reinforcements made these Jiepeng soldiers, who had sprawled and hidden, realize that this wave of attack couldn’t take the position.
Under the commander’s orders in the communication channel, after dropping at least fifty bodies in front of the battlefield, the Jiepeng people neat retreated, backed by artillery fire from the rear.
Though somewhat embarrassed, during withdrawal, the Jiepeng skirmish line remained very intact. Even though their renowned cosmic army training and ethnic character made each soldier rigid and mechanical, their battle discipline-first ideology at least allowed them to retreat in an orderly manner, not rushing, not panicking.
Moments later, not a trace of a Jiepeng person could be seen in front of the position. The whole battlefield, after being plowed by enemy artillery fire, returned to calm.
The bandit army soldiers huddled behind the lines, chatting.
”Damn it!” Nash grabbed Sunx Ping, his face twisted: ”Who the hell is that damned Fatty?! These guys don’t even have a gun, are they here for a vacation?!”
”Damn...” Before Sunx Ping could answer, Nash saw the warrior who was almost turned into a honeycomb by Fatty had already walked towards Fatty with a stern face!
