Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1168: Chapter 11: Battle Amidst the Dust and Smoke

Samson stared dumbfoundedly as the Mecha leaped past him.

Sleek body, hard lines, curved protruding armor, and a fully pressed shell... This Mecha had been with him for almost two years, and even if it melted down into molten steel, he could recognize it at a glance.

Three hours ago, during a counterattack, he drove his Mecha and took out two intruding [Fushan] units but at the cost of severe damage to his Mecha, rendering it unable to fight.

He asked Shen Ming at least ten times if the Mecha could be repaired. But Shen Ming’s answer was always a silent shake of his head. The other Mechanic Soldiers in the Mechanical Armor Team showed the same helpless frustration on their faces.

Thus, he could only pick up a gun, leave his Mecha, and join the fight as an infantryman. This wasn’t difficult for him, as Mechanical Warriors also undergo similar training regularly.

Samson himself couldn’t remember how long the battle had lasted. He only knew that he climbed up to the shooting post again and again, mechanically shooting down enemies. Until a crashed spaceship brought a group of blue-uniformed Mixed Soldiers.

When that infuriating and disgraceful Fatty among the Mixed Soldiers attempted to use repairing his Mecha as an excuse to evade combat, Samson was enraged.

He knew very well the extent of the damage to his Mecha. Even Shen Ming, who dealt with [Taixing] daily, couldn’t repair it. How could that Fatty, who probably hadn’t even touched [Taixing] before, possibly fix the Mecha with a repair arm lacking diagrams and data?

More importantly, there weren’t enough parts on the battlefield!

There couldn’t be a more crude lie and excuse than that. Even staying for another second felt like an insult to Samson’s intelligence.

Before that Fatty, wearing nothing but a ridiculous cold-weather vest instead of Major General’s uniform, could lay hands on his Mecha, he shouted for the warriors to leave the Mecha trench. He was afraid he might not be able to resist shooting Fatty dead.

However, when he saw Fatty running towards the front line of the battlefield, he vaguely felt he might have been wrong.

When Fatty sniped three Jiepeng Soldiers, the idea became increasingly intense. Intense enough that he couldn’t resist dropping his gun to check if another miracle was born in the Mecha trench.

And when he saw the Mecha in front of him, he finally understood that he might have missed something...

Samson twisted his head, and his companions in the surrounding battleground were still mechanically firing. However, he could distinctly see the shock in their eyes.

Sunlight spilled onto the relatively narrow frontline of the 347 Heights, fragmented and mottled by craters and sparse tree shadows.

The earth thrown up by explosions surged like water columns rising sky-high. Fragments of wood and dry branches shattered and bounced under the rain of bullets. The ground was still trembling, smoke was still spreading across the sky, and the deafening sound of gunfire echoed through the valley...

But all of this froze into a still frame the moment the battered [Taixing] leaped out from the trenches.

The Mecha was advancing at high speed.

Its head only had half left. The left forehead, along with the part where the left eye’s observation device was located, looked as if chewed by a wild dog. Its left arm was severed halfway, with an ugly shield welded at the elbow. Its shell was covered with crude metal patches, resembling a down-and-out beggar.

Most puzzling was its right leg, an odd thing, thick and ugly, very awkward. Between the black framework and the silver filling metal, one could even see wires, gears, and rapidly expanding and retracting rods!

Was this the [Taixing] that lay in the Mecha trench just now? The warriors looked at each other, feeling a rush of blood to the head. The answer was undeniable... was there another [Taixing] in this battlefield?

But, how could it move?!

Everyone involuntarily turned to look for that figure within the battlefield.

Fatty ran through the trench amidst the mud, suddenly halted, peeked out, and fired!

A Jiepeng Corporal, crouching between two trees, suddenly fell to the ground.

The Jiepeng Soldiers hidden among the forest slopes halted their advance again, each frantically looking for cover among the trees and small mounds.

Fatty switched positions, peeked out, fired!

A Jiepeng Soldier lying on the ground shooting towards the battlefield had his gun fall silent. His head tilted bizarrely to one side, as blood flowed out from his torn neck, soaking the dark brown earth.

No enemies exposed in front now.

Seemingly catching something out of the corner of his eye, Fatty swiftly turned, flicking the gun nozzle in an arc through the air, followed by barely perceptible tremor.

A Jiepeng Soldier who just poked his head out on the far left suddenly tilted backward, collapsing with a hole in his forehead. A crimson trail of blood droplets spun into the air as his head jerked back fiercely.

Before the blood hit the ground, Fatty had already ducked and retracted his gun, sprinting towards the next sniper point bent over.

The battlefield lay in utter silence.

”Snap!” A Chuckna Corporal slapped his cheek hard: ”I’m a pig!”

Seeing a nearby Private First Class looking at him in astonishment, the Corporal glared and cursed: ”What are you staring at? You’re also a damn pig!”
