Counterfeit Hero

Faced with the flanking attack, the bandit army’s armored group’s assault was no longer unstoppable. They had to pay attention to the Suss armored forces in the small hilly areas on both flanks of the plain. If they were flanked and their retreat cut off, or if the 205th high ground was ambushed, even the Ninth Generation Mecha would not be able to reverse the situation.

Now, the real-time battle conditions on the electronic sand table showed that the reinforcements that the bandit army originally intended to focus on breaking through the Suss position had already started to disperse to the left and right due to the attacks on both flanks by the Suss forces.

Chuck anxiously looked at the sky and the time, issuing order after order. Feedback from the front line included one important piece of information: the enemy’s communication and command systems seemed to still be disrupted by the electronic mecha. All their commands were issued openly through loudspeakers without any encryption.

Therefore, as long as the flanks held the enemy back and prevented them from breaking through the front line in one go, the command post and remaining forces behind the front line could be preserved to the greatest extent. Once night fell, the bandit army, unable to conduct dispersed operations, would have to watch helplessly as the Suss armored forces on both flanks retreated in the darkness. If they dared to turn on the lights to fight, they would become targets for artillery fire. If they dared to disperse and pursue, Chuck wouldn’t mind using communication coordination advantages to divide and annihilate them.

Although the enemy had once evaded detection by the electronic mecha, Chuck was not worried. After all, interference and detection, counter-interference, and counter-detection were not the same things.

Breakthrough!

When the last mecha before him fell, Cosmo’s vision suddenly cleared.

After a few explosions, there were no standing Suss mecha around anymore. Cosmo suddenly felt a bit dazed. He couldn’t believe that after more than an hour of combat, the Phantom Stream Knights, fighting for the first time on the battlefield, had wiped out nearly twice the enemy’s force with a casualty ratio of 1 to 20.

This astonishing result left him momentarily unable to accept it.

Cosmo slowly turned his mecha... one bandit army mecha after another, covered in smoke and dust, was following behind him. These Phantom Stream Knights, whom he couldn’t be more familiar with, now looked slightly unfamiliar.

Their mechas still carried the smell of smoke and scars from the scorched earth. Some mechas had their external armor torn like hanging rags, and some parts had large holes through which the inner shell of the mecha could be seen... making each ”Sword” look increasingly ugly. However, in Cosmo’s eyes, these damages did not tarnish his comrades’ image but instead made them appear even more heroic and fierce.

Once, he and they stood on the roof of the Tai Sect Mecha Hall, watching those 120 black mechas raving mighty through the enemy ranks.

And today, he and they had become the protagonists in others’ eyes!

Cosmo licked his lips and smiled. This feeling was simply incredible!

He turned around, looking through the canopy. Five kilometers away, the defensive armored walls and mechas of the Suss people could be seen faintly on the horizon.

Cosmo raised the mecha’s arm, pausing for a few seconds, then suddenly pointed forward!

”Wah!” That was the wild shout that Fatty had uttered one day during the ultimate strike in a mock battle with a Second-level Mecha War God.

Countless howls joined together, echoing across the sky.

A steel torrent surged past him in the direction of his pointing finger.

Looking down, the ground trembled beneath his seat. Looking up, the sky was obscured by rolling dust and smoke.

A surge of hot blood rushed to his head. Cosmo couldn’t help but tremble all over. In the hot-blooded fervor, he suddenly pushed the control stick, and the mecha started to run, merging into the rolling torrent.

From the sky, looking down, more than four hundred black mechas kept the same distance from each other, leaping and charging in rows. Behind them, the dust rolled up. A huge triangular formation with a width of up to eight kilometers at the widest point of the flanks cut across the terrain like the shadow cast by a warship flying through the sky.

On the Suss position, there was a dead silence. The Suss soldiers could no longer hear the hysterical shouts of their officers.

They gripped their control sticks tightly, their faces pale.

On the horizon before them, a black wavering line surged toward them, the sound of mecha footsteps like muffled thunder rolling from the trembling ground.

The beard on the chin of the commander of the 402nd regiment trembled. The First Battalion was gone, and the Second Battalion was gone too. Even with this defensive position, how could the forces at his disposal possibly stop these crazed opponents?

The howling ”wah” sound came closer and closer.

The commander closed his eyes and despairingly shouted, ”Fire!”

The darkened sky suddenly became bright...

”Retreat.” Chuck slumped in his chair dejectedly.

The current outcome was already the best result he could achieve.

The 401st regiment on the flanks could still be largely preserved, and the command post could retreat safely. But the 402nd regiment was entirely left behind here.

The command mecha started up. The control panel split into several small pieces and was retracted into the mecha with the mechanical arms.

The staff officers, their faces pale, each packed and prepared.

Twenty kilometers away, the earth-shaking sound of cannons was non-stop. The flashes of firing and explosions from the energy cannons illuminated the entire sky...
