Counterfeit Hero

Close combat, whether for the mecha warriors or the mechas themselves, is merely auxiliary! Auxiliary skills, auxiliary functions!

However, no one expected that in just three or five years, the combat mode of mechas has been changed.

With the continuous improvement of energy shields and armored systems, and as mechas of the sixth generation and beyond became faster, more agile, with more adequate energy loads and stronger power, battles between long-range firepower started to become awkward.

In armored group confrontations, firing thousands of Energy Cannons only hits a few dozen accurately, and even these few dozen might not destroy a single mecha. Unless five or six energy bullets continuously hit the same mecha, the energy shield can recover as long as the enemy dodges the final fatal blow.

At that time, such situations often occurred—thousands of Military Mechas confronted each other, with bullets raining down and missiles flying chaotically. The positions on both sides were almost blown to pieces, yet the casualty rate remained at a very low level. No one could do anything to the other.

The real solution came from the close-range firefights and melee combat.

And as the mode of close combat with mechas took shape, and as mechas focused more on close combat performance, the Free World, which was originally seen by the mainstream military as a joke for playing with combat mechas in close combat, turned into a fierce tiger.

Now, the tiger has been unleashed.

On the battlefield, smoke is rising, and the sounds of slaughter are deafening.

Cosmo, leading the First Battalion, launched a fierce assault on the final defensive line of the Suss’s blocking formation.

Behind them, three battalions, totaling 1200 equally ugly mechas, roared down from Hill 205 like a landslide.

Chuck’s face was ashen, the veins on both sides of his forehead bulging conspicuously under the skin. His eyes, fixed on the virtual screen, were bloodshot, and the continuous smoking and uncontrollable anxiety had caused blisters to form at the corners of his mouth.

In just a few dozen minutes, it felt to Chuck like decades had passed.

He knew that even as born warriors, and as soldiers in a country that values victory and honor as life, the Suss soldiers possessed an extremely strong fighting spirit and strict battlefield discipline. However, if the battle continued to develop like this, no one could guarantee it wouldn’t turn into a panic retreat.

The Second Battalion was still resisting, and this was already the psychological bottom line for all the Suss people. If the enemy broke through the Second Battalion’s blockade before the two battalions of the 401 Regiment were thrown into the battle from the flanks, everything would be over.

”What is the 401 Regiment doing?” Chuck furiously threw his cigarette butt to the ground and shouted, ”Why haven’t they reached the designated position yet?”

”They have already reached the designated spot...” a combat staff said trembling, ”They are doing battle preparation!”

”Prepare my ass!” Chuck slammed his fist on the console and roared, ”Tell Riddle, if he doesn’t attack within three minutes, I’ll personally send him to the military court!”

”Yes, Colonel.” The combat staff quickly went to contact Colonel Riddle of the 401 Regiment.

Chuck asked his adjutant for another cigarette and lit it. Amid the swirling smoke, he watched the changing numbers on the console’s clock, praying in his heart for the Second Battalion to hold on during this time. If the Second Battalion collapsed before the two battalions of the 401 Regiment were thrown into battle, then the bandit armored troops forming a single fist would be able to destroy the remaining forces of the 402 Regiment in one fell swoop.

Once the attacking position was breached, this battle would be over as well.

Chuck loosened the collar button, taking deep drags on his cigarette.

He couldn’t understand how the opposing bandit army had such strong combat power. According to the intelligence provided by the Northern Alliance, aside from having 120 Combat Mechas, the rest were just ordinary Private Mechas from various sects.

Without an energy defense system, those mechas would be dead with one shot from the Boxing King. The Absolute Kill Stream and Mountain Breaker Sect had already proven this. The top two Mechanical Sects had been utterly defeated by the Far East Victory, an outdated Seventh Generation Mecha from the Suss Military. Facing a bandit army far inferior to those two sects, how could the superior Boxing King possibly lose?

It was precisely because of the Northern Alliance’s intelligence that Chuck was caught off guard by the reality—they had four full-strength battalions of Military Mechas, all equipped with Ninth Generation Mechas!

The more he thought about it, the more Chuck felt it was a trap.

He couldn’t bear such a failure, so this had to be a trap—the Northern Alliance didn’t provide accurate intelligence but sent the Suss Armored Group to the most challenging Pingqi Ridge Defense Line. Those damned merchants tried to use the lives of Suss soldiers to pin down the enemy.

”Check the current distribution of Northern Alliance troops.” Chuck gestured for his adjutant to light another cigarette for him, taking a deep drag. He gritted his teeth and said to the combat staff beside him, ”Also, check whether the 1000 Far East Victory mechas stationed at Lille Port are still there.”

Seeing the combat staff leave to carry out his orders, Chuck refocused on the battle reports on the command mecha’s central console.

The situation stabilized after the two battalions of the 401 Regiment were forcibly thrown into combat.
