System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1316 Employer

”…” Milfa blinked her eyes in disbelief. ”What a bad… I mean, an impactful first impression.”

”I know itʼs a bad impression.” Leysha chuckled. ”I was a mess back then. Then…”

…

Luke and the others were startled, looking at Leysha. They glanced around, noticing that the people had been neutralized.

Obviously, Silvester and Raven stood between Leysha and Luke, not knowing whether Leysha was a person from the Supreme Devil Organization or not.

Laufey, on the other hand, examined Leysha carefully. At first glance, Leysha looked like a beggar. Her appearance was a mess. However, if they took a much closer look at her, there was a refined aura coming from her. It wasnʼt something that could be hidden easily. It was as if she was not a commoner.

And for whatever reason, Leysha came here. It might be a fallout with her family or a fallen noble.

Laufey wanted to warn Luke, but the latter had already stepped forth while saying, ”Lady… Do you want to work for the Ardagan family?”

”What did you say? Did you not hear what I said earlier?” Leysha gritted her teeth.

”I heard you. Looking at your strength, you should be pretty powerful, right? At the same time, looking at your appearance and your meal, you donʼt really have a lot of money. Why is that?

”After considering it for a bit, I believe youʼve been wandering around for a while instead of taking a job.

”I donʼt know why youʼre wandering around, but judging by the layer of refined aura coming from your body, I know that you once settled down somewhere and lived a quite good life.

”I wonʼt ask anything about you. Instead, how about working for the Ardagan family? I will employ you.”

Leysha glared at Luke and took back her leg on the table. ”Youʼre bold. It looks like youʼre aware that youʼre entering the den of your enemies. Yet you dare to ask someone who is inside it to join you. And shouldnʼt you apologize first?”

”Youʼre right.” Luke politely lowered his head. ”I have been rude to you. Iʼm sorry. Regarding your affiliation. Iʼve specified that youʼve been wandering around… and it should be for quite a while.

”Instead of continuing such a living, why donʼt you settle down here in the Ardagan family?” Luke asked.

”Heh?” Leysha squinted her eyes. ”Do you think your puny family can afford me? I heard that this land is a mess.”

”Please allow me to correct you. It was a mess. However, the current me could definitely afford you.” Luke smiled. ”You give the same feeling as my subordinates. Spirit Practitioner, is it?”

”Iʼm already close to Spirit Wielder.” Leysha harrumphed.

”My apologies.” Luke nodded.

ʼYouʼre talking big. Even in my family, a spirit practitioner has a wage of about 1 gold coin per month. But since Iʼm already close to the spirit wielder, and the spirit wielderʼs wage is about 15 gold coins per month. I should demand at least 10 gold coins. And thereʼs no way this territory can afford it… especially with such a bad territory on top of the current spending to restore it.ʼ Leysha thought, planning to overwhelm Luke.

And this was the first time she got the shock of her life.

Without a shred of hesitation, Luke said, ”45 gold coins per month. I will pay you 45 gold coins per month.”

”Huh?!” Leysha was startled. ”You… What did you say?”

”45 gold coins. Thatʼs your monthly wage. Is it not enough?” Luke looked down. ”This is weird. I have put three times the market.”

”Are you insane? Even though Iʼm close to becoming a spirit wielder, Iʼm still a spirit practitioner.” Leysha heard him mentioning the market. It was clear Luke knew about the normal price. Yet he dared to offer much higher than the market.

She couldnʼt help but think Luke had an ulterior motive, especially after what he said a moment ago. ”Donʼt tell me. Iʼm not going to provide you with my body!”

”Huh? Who cares about that?” Luke tilted his head in confusion.

”…” Leysha widened her eyes in disbelief. She glanced at the three people behind him, who were facepalming as though they had expected this response. Even though her appearance wasnʼt that good currently, she still had a fair confidence in her appearance. ”You bastard. Did you say Iʼm not attractive?”

”How the hell do you even reach that conclusion? No, make up your mind first please!”

”Then, why would you offer 45 gold coins?!” She shouted back and even grabbed Lukeʼs collar.

”Iʼm simply paying for your future.” Luke gritted his teeth. ”The normal wage will allow you to lead a good life, but if I give you more, you can use that money to give a good life to your family too. Besides, you can also buy demon crystals with the excess money, which will improve your strength even further.

”In addition, even if people are trying to poach you, you will think Iʼm better in the future. At the very least, you will think you can get better under my leadership and stick to me.”

”…” Leysha was dumbfounded. He wasnʼt wrong, but the amount of money to do such a thing would be enormous. There was no way such a bad territory could produce all that money.

Luke simply turned to Laufey. ”You heard that, Laufey? Draft a 1-year contract. If you get too comfortable and donʼt plan to become stronger, I will either reduce your wage or not extend your contract.”

Leysha couldnʼt believe what she had just heard. If he said those words to older people, at least those in their late twenties or even thirties, they might have no more need to get even stronger. But she was still too young to give up. That was why she definitely had the chance to become stronger.

”If you become a spirit wielder, I will be raising your wage to 60 gold coins per month.” Luke asked one more time. ”How is it? Do you want to join the Ardagan family or not?”
