Chapter 1313: Dimitri

”How about marrying Dimitri? I can tell you legally that way.”

”W-Wha—!” Milfa dropped her jaw as her face reddened. ”Are you joking with me? Please stop teasing me! There’s nothing between me and Dimitri…”

Leysha chuckled. ”Really? I noticed some hesitation in the last part.”

”That’s enough!” Milfa screamed. She looked away, as a lot of embarrassing memories couldn’t help but resurface.

”Really? This is a very important secret, you know? I can’t really tell you as you want. Let’s see… How about you tell me some secrets as well?”

”What? Do you think I will disclose the secret of the Demon Banner Army?”

”Do you think we care about that?” Leysha looked at Silvester and Raven before chuckling. ”Give us the secret of your relationship with Dimitri. Didn’t you know he would always disappear because he was embarrassed whenever I asked?”

”Eh? That’s…” Milfa blinked her eyes a few times, surprised to hear that revelation.

…

When she was 10 years old, her entire village was razed by demons.

There was nothing but corpses and burning buildings around her. Just when she was about to be killed by a demon, it was there she met him.

Dimitri appeared in front of her, cutting the demon into two like a prince helping her.

The young Dimitri was different from the current Dimitri. He had a rather cold and aloof aura around him, pulling people’s attention to himself, but at the same time repelling them away.

”Are you alright?” Dimitri asked while extending his hand.

”Please save everyone.”

”Don’t worry. Everyone is here now.” Dimitri nodded.

”Oi, Dimitri! What the hell are you doing? To think you would speed up… Is it to save this little girl?” Laufey gritted his teeth. ”Do you know this is a joint operation of three squads? Why are you taking all the credits?”

”SCAN!” Oscar shouted before noticing what happened. ”Stop it, Laufey. There’s no survivor in this village.”

”What?” Laufey widened his eyes. ”So, he’s rushing because he notices that there’s still at least one survivor that he can save?”

All of them looked at Dimitri, but the latter simply looked away. ”It seems my squad has arrived. I’ll take my leave and handle the rest of the demons now.”

”Wait!” Laufey wanted to stop him, but Dimitri had disappeared. ”What the… He is always like this.”

”Agreed. He would be the first one to charge in order to save at least one more person but never really cared about the credits.” Oscar sighed. ”You should join Dimitri. I’ll take care of this kid here.”

”Fine.” Laufey harrumphed and jumped away.

…

”So, that’s what happened?” Leysha’s expression melted. ”As expected of Dimitri. He is truly kind. Is that the reason you fell for him?”

”Don’t you think the atmosphere is weird, Madam? I mean, she was the sole survivor, so there must be no such feelings appearing in her mind. It was the least of her concerns.” Raven shook his head.

”I know, I know. I’m just teasing her.” Leysha chuckled. ”So, what’s next?”

Milfa looked down. ”Well, they took me as a refugee at first and prepared me for everything. I trained myself so as to not waste their kindness and grew my strength as much as possible. I just wanted to make sure I was strong enough to join the Demon Banner Army when my age was suitable to be a soldier.”

”Huh? The Demon Banner Army took care of you? Was there such a program?” Milfa tilted her head in confusion.

”No. I have never heard of such a thing. I only know that the Demon Banner Army took refugees but never really tried to take care of them to that extent. In the end, they brought them back as refugees instead of future soldiers.” Raven shook his head.

”Yeah…” Milfa closed her eyes for a moment. Explore more at .Côm

It was a coincidence back then, but Dimitri, Laufey, and Oscar were often drinking together at that time.

”Can you stop drinking? How many times is this already?” Milfa pouted while putting her hands on her waist, glaring at these three guys. ”Look at your state. Dimitri, aren’t you supposed to be working tomorrow? You should hurry up and go back. If you end up getting delayed tomorrow, it will be a mess.”

”Hahaha. Dimitri! Guh…” Laufey laughed while pointing at Dimitri before getting knocked out.

”Oi. Laufey. You lost.” Oscar grinned. ”Dimitri. You should bring this guy back.”

”Huh? Why should I?”

”Then, are you going to make me ask our precious Milfa to bring him back? Just go. I’m going to settle the bill.” Oscar grunted. ”Or should I bring him back so you can settle the bill? You, the poorest among us?”

”…” Dimitri paused for a moment before dragging Laufey out.

”Eh? You’re going to pay? Every time I come here, you or Laufey are always the ones paying. He is stingy.” Milfa sighed.

Oscar chuckled before flicking Milfa’s forehead. Although his tone was light, Milfa could hear the sincerity in his voice. ”Don’t you ever say that again, Milfa. If Laufey hears that, he might end up killing you without hesitation.”

”Huh?” Milfa could sense the threat. It was as if he was serious. These three men had been coming to her and talking to her to check on her condition. So, she could feel his tone was different from usual.

Oscar smiled. ”Dimitri is the poorest one among us because he is the most generous one.”

”Generous?”

”Your small hut, your equipment, clothes… basically, everything you have right now is coming from his pocket directly.”

”What? But aren’t these provided by the Demon Banner Army?”

Oscar shook his head. ”The Demon Banner Army takes in refugees, but they never really train people like this. In fact, there is an orphanage not far from here. That, too, is under Dimitri’s name.

”We take in a lot of children, but they might end up in a slum without anyone taking care of them. When that happens, they will either become thieves or prostitutes.

”That’s why Dimitri uses all the money he gets to create an orphanage to take care of them. These kids are the ones not planning to become soldiers, so he hires a teacher to at least teach them all the basic things to survive in the future.

”Meanwhile, those who want to become soldiers are taken in personally by him. Just like you. You get a small room, all training equipment, and items to become a soldier.

”It’s just… One of them ended up dying today, so we tried to cheer him up by asking him to drink. Well, he doesn’t talk a lot, but his actions make him like an open book. The more you observe him, the more amazing he is.

”That guy… is the one I respected the most. Laufey will probably think the same. I and Laufey can’t even do such a thing. That’s why if you ever badmouth him, Laufey might not be able to contain his anger.

”You can complain about a thing or two. In fact, we’re always nagging him. It’s just… no matter what complaints you have, never badmouth him.

”That man deserves a much better life than this. To the point where he should have become the next commander at this point… I don’t really want to compete with him.”
