Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 319: Chapter 215: Pumpkin Cookies (4k)

If he could mend clothes and weave fabric, he could make them for Cyclizar himself.

But unfortunately, he hasn’t mastered that skill.

With several days left until Cyclizar’s birthday, Naoki looked at the woolen bundle that was almost bigger than himself, feeling a bit troubled.

After thinking for a while, he decided to first take the wool back to the farm, and then slowly find someone in town who could help make the clothes.

The speed of Gogoat wasn’t as fast as Koraidon’s, but it was more stable.

At three in the afternoon, Naoki returned to the farm. He jumped off Gogoat, which then returned to the sheep pen on its own.

The farm was just as bustling as when he left.

On the grass, Dragonair was frolicking, Combee danced among the flowers, and Pawmot was napping on the Chicken House roof...

Seeing this, Naoki smiled slightly and patted Koraidon’s head, which had run up to him, then looked towards Cyclizar, who was still asleep in the distance.

This was a unique behavior of Pokemon.

Whenever they were injured, they’d curl up and stop moving, healing through sleep or rest.

Koraidon opened its mouth to say ”Ah,” but Naoki quickly shushed it.

Koraidon immediately closed its mouth, its eyes revealing a hint of grievance.

”Let’s go back inside.”

Naoki helplessly took Koraidon back to his room, placed the wool on the sofa, and asked the following Koraidon, ”Are you afraid of the cold?”

Koraidon immediately nodded, ”Aga-sii!”

”Eh?” Naoki was a bit surprised.

Because in his daily interactions, he didn’t feel Koraidon was particularly afraid of the cold, and based on what he knew, the King who could crack the earth with a punch wasn’t very afraid of cold.

Koraidon’s scales and dragon skin were much thicker than Cyclizar’s.

This might be the nature of Dragon Type Pokemon? Naoki thought.

After all, double weakness to Ice, type matchups are too crucial.

”Alright, then I’ll find someone to make you a winter coat with this wool as well,” Naoki said.

He worried that only Cyclizar having one might cause unease among the other Pokemon.

Just like raising children, favoritism is wrong.

”Aga-sii~”

Koraidon let out a rather cheerful growl.

Seeing this, Naoki’s face showed a smile, and he couldn’t help but reach out to pat the head of this Pokemon with a big dog-like personality.

A trip to town took nearly two hours, and Naoki felt a bit thirsty and decided to have a drink of water first.

He had just picked up the cup when he heard a knock at the door from outside.

”Is anyone there?”

Hearing the familiar voice, Naoki was suddenly very surprised.

He went to open the door, and sure enough, he saw Mrs. Dante from town standing at the door with a parcel.

Under the autumn sun, the elderly woman, her hair a mix of gray and white, had a kindly smile on her face.

Upon seeing Naoki, she lifted the bag in her hand and spoke warmly, ”Good afternoon, Naoki, here are some pumpkin cookies I made. I accidentally made too many, and Riot and I can’t eat them all, so I came to give you some.”

Naoki looked at the small bag of cookies but didn’t refuse, smiling as he reached out to take them: ”Please come in and sit!”

He welcomed the elderly lady into the living room.

Without needing Naoki to speak, Indeedee served a cup of warm, aromatic tea for the guest.

Mrs. Dante took in the furnishing of the room, which, while not luxurious, was filled with a sense of life and traces left by Pokemon.

Mrs. Dante was genuinely happy for Naoki: ”It’s wonderful! This place is even more prosperous than when your grandfather ran it!”

”Hmm? Was the farm quite backward back then?” Naoki’s mind contained only sparse memories, with very vague impressions of that time.

Mrs. Dante nodded, recalling as she spoke: ”Back then, there weren’t big houses here, just a few dilapidated wooden huts. Your grandfather was a tenacious man; he worked very hard to run the farm.”

”There used to be many farms here, and every year the farm run by your grandfather would win first place in the crop evaluation contest!”

”It must have been very lively then,” Naoki imagined aloud, unable to resist.

”Indeed!” Mrs. Dante’s eyes were filled with nostalgia, ”Porto Marinada Town was quite famous as an agricultural town in the Paldea Region back then!”

As she spoke, a regretful expression appeared on her face: ”Unfortunately, now there are fewer and fewer people farming, and young people either move to big cities or become trainers.”

Naoki: ”Times are changing!”

In another ten years, the world is likely to change again.

From the era of slow horse-drawn travel and distant correspondence to an era where a single internet connection links the whole world.

”We’re getting old!” Mrs. Dante sighed deeply, ”If your grandfather saw how capable you are, he’d be very comforted.”

Naoki: ”...”

He thought to himself that if the original owner’s grandfather could see all this, he’d probably be fuming with anger.

”It’s getting late, and I should head back,” Mrs. Dante said kindly.

As she spoke, she stood up but suddenly caught sight of the big bundle of wool Naoki had placed in a corner of the living room.

Mrs. Dante was quite surprised: ”Those wool? Your farm started raising Wooloo?”
