Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1140: Chapter 8: A Flood of Mixed Emotions

”Now?” Fatty’s expression was awkward: ”Isn’t this bad?”

Margaret blushed, realizing the ambiguity in her words, and Fatty’s insufferable expression along with Sechter’s surprised look made her want to find a hole to hide in.

However, with her intelligence, it’s impossible for her not to know Fatty’s usual tricks of joking around. His seemingly carefree words could divert the topic at a crucial moment.

”I mean, I need support from you and the bandit army.” Margaret lightly bit her lip; she wouldn’t let Fatty play dumb and get away with it: ”The Hastings family needs a loyal ally. And the Fei Alliance needs stability and unity.”

”We join forces,” Fatty blinked, looking puzzled, and said: ”Leefer will behave?”

”Leefer won’t openly start a civil war.” Margaret clarified decisively: ”His greatest enemy is Sobel, and his foundation is the Fei Alliance. So, no matter what, he won’t start a full-scale civil war. The power struggle only happens in secret.”

Margaret lightly brushed her hair, raising her face as white as jade, gently saying: ”To be honest, Leefer’s strength absolutely ranks first among all Feiyang generals. However, he’s too ambitious and extreme. My grandfather once said Leefer has fatal flaws. If the Fei Alliance is controlled by such a person, it will only lead to disaster. Therefore, he must be controlled, suppressed!”

”This is an internal matter of the Feiyang Republic,” Fatty got serious, looking at the remnants of Feiyang battleships on the virtual screen, frowned and said: ”It doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the Leray Federation. Besides, what can our few faces do? I’m worried about being affected by the fire at the city gate, why should I hurry to get involved? I don’t believe Marshal Hastings needs help from a small fry like me.”

”This concerns the entire Fei Alliance!” Margaret said urgently: ”If Leefer is left unchecked, every member country of the Fei Alliance will pay the price. This includes the Leray Federation.” Her hand tightly held Fatty’s, hesitated for a long time, and finally, she bit her lip, using a voice only Fatty could hear, said: ”My grandfather, Hastings, has health issues... our time is running out.”

When she said this, Margaret felt all her strength drained. Her long eyelashes trembled, and tears filled her eyes.

This was an absolute secret, her bottom line, and fatal weakness. Despite following Hastings for twenty years, she was ultimately just a girl with little experience. As Hastings’ life counted down, she wasn’t prepared for the most brutal war humanity would face! As a party in the transaction, she shouldn’t have exposed her hand to Fatty. Yet, she did. She didn’t know why. But, when this secret was finally no longer a secret, she felt relieved, like a heavy stone lifted from her chest.

”Health... issues?!” Fatty stared dumbly at the pale Margaret, his mind blank.

Although he never particularly liked the Feiyang Republic, Fatty understood that the Feiyang Republic was the main force in this war. And all these Fei Alliance member countries gathered around the Feiyang Republic, their biggest reliance was the powerful army of the Feiyang Republic and their Military God, Feiyang Marshal—Hastings!

Hastings, in a certain sense, had become the symbol of the entire Fei Alliance, the firmest belief of all warriors! Even in the toughest situations, Fei Alliance soldiers would remain confident in achieving final victory. They wouldn’t give up. Because, behind them, stands Hastings. With this Military God, they don’t believe they would lose the war.

One can imagine, once this person falls, what will the world become?

At this moment, Fatty finally understood why Margaret would go all out to trade marriage during the martial arts tournament.

No one knows Hastings’ health better than her, and no one understands the current difficult battlefield situation better than her, nor Leefer’s ambitions. Her impatience caused her to lose composure and calmness. The Binart 12th Generation Mecha and the bandit’s mecha control skills, to her, are rare chips. She needs power, and this power isn’t from Hastings, but one that can support her once Hastings is gone.

She faces not only the deadly enemy Sobel, but also Leefer. She must have enough capital to uphold the honor of the name Hastings!

All doubts were resolved at this moment.

Fatty sighed: ”Alright. I have only one condition.”

”What condition?” Margaret felt her heart was about to leap out.

She never expected Fatty to agree so easily after she revealed her hand.

No one understands better than her what this means.

This means a military force including eight Armored Divisions and eight A-Grade fleets, it means invisible battleships, it means the bandit army’s research capacities, and it means thousands of Advanced Mecha Warriors capable of opposing Binart’s Twelfth Generation Mecha and their cyan mechas. More importantly, it means this Leray Major General, who repeatedly creates miracles, will become her partner!
