Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1134: Chapter 128: Departure_4

What exactly happened that made her so conflicted about Fatty?!

Douglas was a bit worried. After arriving on the carrier Oracle, he had already received more shocking news from Margaret.

The Binart Empire’s Twelfth Generation Mecha, the bandit army’s Mecha manipulation skills, the warship’s stealth technology, and perhaps more astonishing things... These are what the Fei Alliance desperately needs now.

Even Douglas himself understood that the bandit army, regarding these matters, just like the Feiyang Republic with its core military secrets, would not easily hand them over to outsiders. However, cooperating with such an army rather than confronting it is still the wisest choice at present. Margaret choosing to follow the bandit army here already indicates that she understands the importance of the bandit army. But looking at how she treats Fatty, it seems she’s carrying some type of emotion. This doesn’t seem like her style.

After exchanging a surprised look with Claudia, Douglas asked with a wry smile, ”Do you know his past records?”

Margaret nodded. Beneath her tall chignon, a fine ring of golden down was clearly visible on her fair neck: ”You once told me about what happened on Mezrich Planet. I believe that all of those stories are true!”

Margaret’s voice was clear and crisp. She had no reason to doubt Douglas, who was like an older brother to her. Besides, during her days with the bandit army, she had seen far more than Douglas did.

”Then you should understand what such a person means to Leray,” Douglas said blandly. ”Think about Admiral Bernadotte’s attitude towards him during the communication with the command center just now. I think it’s not so hard to understand why he’s the commander of this fleet.”

Margaret said nothing. She quietly observed the banquet hall. On a sofa on one side of the hall, Fatty was sitting obediently like a good baby with that little boy, listening to an elderly Chunna woman’s endless chatter.

”What exactly happened?” Claudia gently linked her arm with Margaret’s, asking softly. The composed and calm little witch, who used to silently control everything, was no longer there.

”Nothing...” Margaret lowered her head and smiled.

”Your heart seems very troubled...” Claudia swept away a few strands of golden hair near Margaret’s ear: ”I can tell.”

”The Leray people astonish me. They seem to have too many things that are different from us,” Margaret murmured: ”I admit, he has given me enough shock. I even thought of binding him to Feiyang’s warship through marriage. But...”

Seeing the shocked expressions in Douglas’s and Claudia’s eyes, Margaret’s face still maintained serenity, as if narrating something irrelevant to her: ”... I failed!”

Failed. Douglas and Claudia looked at each other.

”Threats. Temptations...” Margaret raised her glass, gazing in puzzlement at the golden liquid mixed with ice: ”They seem to be of no effect on him. Clearly, he’s not a man without desires, yet I can’t grasp his weaknesses.”

”He has no weaknesses?” Claudia tightened her grip on Margaret’s arm in surprise and turned back to Douglas.

Douglas pondered.

Margaret shook her head: ”Speaking of which, this person is full of weaknesses. I have never seen anyone as greedy, lustful, vain, cowardly, and unsophisticated as him. Yet, despite these flaws, he resists threats and temptations. I really don’t know what’s in this guy’s mind that makes him so persistent.”

”You were only focusing on attacking his weaknesses...” Douglas slowly lit a cigarette and shook his head: ”Perhaps that was your biggest mistake.”

Seeing Margaret raise her head to look at him, Douglas said in a low voice: ”Though I haven’t fought alongside him for long, I know that I’d rather become friends with him. Because he always creates miracles for his friends. I’ve experienced it twice, and I’m expecting the third time. So you shouldn’t think about conquering or enticing him.”

Two ragged armed merchant ships approached the mothership. Their bodies blocked the entire starry sky outside the balcony’s glass doors. From here, the mottled rust on the merchant ships’ hulls and the bandit army soldiers inside, along with the interior setups, were clearly visible.

Margaret quietly watched Douglas and suddenly laughed.

She gently hugged Claudia, then reached out to hug Douglas and said with a smile, ”I should be going.”

”I have requested grandfather to transfer the Nineteen Group Fleet under the command of the bandit army with unified authority. When I return,” the girl’s face showed a confident and beautiful smile: ”General Douglas, I hope my efforts won’t be in vain.”

Making a playful face, the girl turned and left, her final words falling softly: ”If I can’t conquer him, then I’ll try to integrate with him. He won’t escape my grasp!”

Behind her, Douglas and Claudia exchanged smiles.

No sacrifice, no victory.

This famous saying by Hastings is the motto of every Feiyang Soldier. But truly understanding the meaning of sacrifice, how many can do that? It’s not simple cooperation, not tolerance, and certainly not cruelly commanding soldiers to rush toward the enemy’s gunfire. It’s a word with infinitely vast meanings, a spiritual force.

Sacrificing life is indeed noble, but sacrificing one’s deep-seated views and immediate interests is even more challenging.

Watching Margaret’s lighthearted silhouette, Douglas knew his worries were redundant. This intelligent girl had already grasped the true meaning of the word ”sacrifice.”
