Counterfeit Hero

Speaking, McKinley paused, exchanged a glance with the generals, restrained his smile, and then said to Douglas: ”If we were to mention the only requirement, it is the hope that, no matter what, you must hold the Longbow Star System for at least seventy-two hours! I believe you have already seen the battle report from Canglang Star, we need time to complete troop reinforcements to Resk. During this period, we don’t want any Western Alliance Fleet appearing at the Jump Point from the Southeast Main Channel to Resk, which is crucial for the entire Southeast War Situation!”

McKinley’s words made the generals nod one after another.

Although the Alliance Command Center is responsible for the combat deployment of the entire Fei Alliance Joint Army, it is absolutely impossible to give long-distance guidance in specific battles. Those who are out of touch and casually make directives without being on the frontline are either ignorant of military affairs or have their brains smoked by nonsense. On the battlefield, any decisions made by assuming things are taboo.

Even the Military God Hastings usually only controls large strategic principles and reviews combat plans for important battles before they begin, but once a battle starts, all rights are in the hands of the frontline commanders. Unless there is extremely precise intelligence support or a discovery of extremely significant strategic mistakes, the rear will not interfere with the frontline.

The generals present, of course, would not make such mistakes. The battle of the Longbow Star System was originally beyond their control. The current results have already been an unexpected joy. Instead of making uninformed directives, it would be better to give strategic requirements and then remove restrictions, allowing Douglas to play freely.

”Yes, Admiral McKinley!” Douglas stood at attention to salute. With Hanfrey in Fatty’s hands, even if they couldn’t get major benefits, delaying this fleet for a few days could still be achieved.

Neither Douglas nor the generals in the command center thought about having the entire Hanfrey Fleet surrender. After all, in modern warfare, no one thinks that capturing the opponent’s commander equates to victory. Without Hanfrey, there are still other officers. On the battlefield, the Binart people still hold certain advantages. The more realistic approach at this moment is to use Hanfrey’s special relationship with the two Royal Elephant-class Fleets to try to secure some benefits.

”Admiral Douglas,” at this moment, a cold voice sounded by the electronic simulation platform: ”Is Hanfrey currently on Major General Tian Xingjian’s ship? Can this General Tian Xingjian be contacted now?”

Everyone turned their heads; the speaker was, of course, Leefer.

Compared to the group of generals who were unconsciously excited, Leefer’s expression remained cold and stern like iron, and it even appeared a bit colder than before.

The generals engrossed in joy did not notice that beneath the simulation platform, Leefer’s fist had already turned a shade of blue-white from clenching.

This suddenly emerging army made him hate it to the core!

If it weren’t for them, the Fei Alliance would face a severe defeat. And the only one who could save the Fei Alliance was him—Alk Long Leefer!

He has observed this war for too long. He cannot wait until everything spirals out of control, nor can he wait for that person to calmly handle everything according to their own will. He must plunge into war; only war can provide the nutrients of blood to grow stronger and sweep the world.

He doesn’t want to miss this opportunity. Even if he misses it, he will create another one!

This is the best opportunity for the Leefer Legion to enter the war!

”Yes, sir. Contact can be made, sir.” Douglas said in a deep voice: ”The Bandit Army Fleet and my Nineteenth Fleet have completed assembly, I can now...”

”No need...” Leefer waved his hand, interrupting Douglas. Slightly furrowing his brow, he said: ”If I remember correctly, Major General Tian belongs to my Mars Front Army, so how did he end up in the Longbow Star System?”

”This...” Douglas was unaware of Fatty’s current situation and hesitated for a moment. The others standing next to Leefer had stiff expressions and glanced at Bernadotte.

Leefer’s words reminded many of those present who knew the situation.

Tian Xingjian’s assignment to the Mars Front Army had caused quite a discussion at the time.

Regarding the Fei Alliance’s overt picking of peaches, many people were secretly disdainful. However, as the Fei Alliance Joint Army was led by the Feiyang Republic, at the time, Leray also didn’t have the ability to defend the fruits of victory, and with no violations of the regulations, everyone just let it be. But the matter of Tian Xingjian being assigned to the Mars Front Army is quite memorable.

And now, when the Mars Front Army has been defeated and retreated under the Suss Fleet’s attack, the Bandit Army, which should have been under the Mars Front Army’s leadership in the Mars War Zone, unexpectedly appeared in the distant Longbow Star System, which is evidently unreasonable.

Even if the Bandit Army wasn’t officially part of the Fei Alliance Joint Army’s ranks, their commander Tian Xingjian is the first Army Commander of the Mars Front Army!

Douglas and Tian Xingjian did not have a pre-war union, nor did the command center order the Bandit Army to reinforce. So, why did he lead his army, whose number, combat strength, and personnel composition are unknown, to the Longbow Star System?

If the Bandit Army Fleet was sent to the Longbow Star System by Carolina, even a fool wouldn’t believe that. The Longbow Star System has nothing to do with the Mars Front Army, and moreover, Carolina does not possess the ability of foresight or a self-sacrificing spirit.

For a time, the combat room fell silent.

On one hand, the Bandit Army’s contribution is a tangible fact. On the other, unauthorized action and disobedience to orders are major taboos in the army. Besides, this Major General of Leray has a history!

”Sir...” In the silence, Douglas spoke: ”Colonel Margaret is currently in the Bandit Army Fleet.”

”Margaret?!” McKinley was suddenly startled.

Douglas’s words, although seemingly off-topic to outsiders, McKinley understood the implication. Since Suss attacked Mars, he hadn’t contacted the Mars Front Army, and was very worried about Margaret’s safety. Unexpectedly, Margaret wasn’t with Carolina but followed the Bandit Army to the Longbow Star System.

Things started to become complicated. Margaret in the Bandit Army Fleet, was it her personal choice... or was it Hastings’ intention? If it were Hastings’ intention, then no one present had the right to question it. Is the relationship between Margaret and Hastings unknown to others, but not to himself?

Quickly turning back, McKinley saw Leefer’s face was so dark it seemed like it might drip water.

Ordinary civilians and soldiers assume Leefer is the first successor of Hastings, but among the upper echelons of the Fei Alliance, who doesn’t view Margaret as the real first successor?

Given Margaret’s talents, the twenty years of wisdom and training from Hastings, her identity, and the intricate economic interests of the Fei Alliance upper echelons, it is impossible for Leefer to control everything. Leefer is like a sharp sword, maybe indestructible, but the sharper it is, the more it needs to be controlled!

”Nonsense!”

Leefer shouted sternly. His eyes flashing with thoughts already swapped countless times in his mind.

He had been closely following this war, more diligently than anyone else. The information about Tian Xingjian and the current situation spun several times in his mind, and he hummed: ”How could she be there.”

Speaking, Leefer paced a few steps, suddenly stopping, looked at McKinley and said: ”Admiral McKinley, I suggest the command center orders General Tian Xingjian to immediately transfer Hanfrey to Douglas and immediately set off to escort Colonel Margaret back to Aksa. Colonel Margaret’s special status is not suitable to remain in the Longbow Star System.”

”Furthermore, with Chuckna Marshal Li Cunxin trapped in Canglang Star, since the command center can’t immediately dispatch troops, how about letting General Tian take the return trip opportunity to proceed with the rescue. We must know, apart from Marshal Li, simultaneously trapped are members of the Alliance’s Mecha Research and Testing Group. Among the group are six Leray scientists. Among...” Leefer turned to look at Bernadotte, his face expressionless and said: ”...also including the head scientist of the Leray Expert Group, Mr. Boswell.”
