Counterfeit Hero

Aboard Battleship [Oscar], Captain Hoffman felt as if all the strength had been drained from his body. He stared blankly out the porthole at the enemy ships moving out of interception range, unable to believe it was all real.

Outside, occasional energy cannon light streaked across the void. Not far off the starboard side, Battleship [Mermaid] was riddled with holes. The majestic bow had a large gaping hole, the right wing was completely broken, and even the bridge was missing a significant chunk.

Hoffman felt relieved for the beautiful ship captain Claudia… if not for the miraculous appearance of Space Fighters at the enemy flagship’s flank, even with Oscar’s cover, [Mermaid] wouldn’t have survived the next round of attacks.

Who are they? Hoffman looked on, unable to contain his amazement, at the fast-advancing fighters, watching the Binart battleship hurriedly turn back without even bothering to evade. A wonderful answer floated into his mind.

They are God’s messengers!

”Captain, target locked, main guns charged!”

The voice of the Chief Officer snapped Hoffman back to reality. He stood up abruptly. At this moment, strength seemed to return to his body. He had never felt so invigorated.

”Fire! Take out these bastards!”

As the energy cannon light streaked through the universe and slammed into the bridge of a destroyer, Hoffman noticed [Mermaid] not far outside the window also shot out a straight white light, hitting the Binart Cruiser that was tailing her.

Hahahahaha!

Hoffman burst into laughter. The ups and downs of life were truly thrilling and exhilarating. No matter who the leader of those bandits was, once this battle ended, he must have a good drink with him!

Feiyu Aircraft Carrier’s Defense System was fully activated. Over a hundred Interception Missiles were released simultaneously. The round launcher on top fired Decoy Missiles at a rate of two per second. The energy gun towers dotted all over frantically wove their firepower.

Three hundred missiles.

Even in modern warfare, missiles might have fallen from their throne of long-range attacks due to speed and power, but this was taking place over a mere 2800 kilometers! No one dared take any chances. If struck simultaneously by 300 missiles, even two carriers would be doomed!

The first line of defense made up of Interception Missiles first met the attacking missile swarm.

The opposing missile swarms became disorganized at a distance of fifty kilometers from each other. The Interception Missiles employed a dense array defense by detonating as they passed through the missile swarm, becoming rising fireballs.

Approximately one-third of the Attack Missiles were intercepted, some hit directly and others blocked by the dense array of exploding Interception Missiles. The remaining two-thirds of the Attack Missiles cut various arcs through the fiery patches in the air, adjusted their trajectories, and continued pressing towards the carrier.

Two seconds later, sixteen Decoy Missiles exploded in the void less than sixty kilometers from the carrier. The scattered warheads spun, forming a blue light web.

Over a hundred Attack Missiles unable to divert crashed into it head-on.

The fierce explosions turned into clusters of white light streaking across the universe. The clustered light formed overlapping layers.

Amidst the dazzling explosions, dozens of missiles that broke through interception accelerated towards the carrier now barely within reach.

The web of firepower from the carrier’s energy gun towers barely made an impact on the approaching missiles. All anyone saw was the carrier’s energy shield, like a pond during a torrential rain, ripple into a myriad of concentric circles, forming continuous ripples.

Blue, light blue, pale red, deep red… as the final missile pierced through the web and struck the carrier, the seemingly indestructible energy shield flashed rapidly and collapsed completely!

The universe seemed to return to its most primal, chaotic state at this moment. Time stopped, the scene froze. Everyone’s minds went blank.

The balance of war was fiercely tipped by an invisible hand, the previously tilted angle restored to equilibrium.

No one won, no one lost!

The Binart people couldn’t believe their flagship, almost on the verge of victory, was ambushed in its most critical position. A mothership without an energy shield was no different from a bound and naked woman. It would take an hour to restore the energy shield!

Luckily, these mad fighters’ target was Hanfrey. Only Hanfrey had the ability to find a way out of such a doomed scenario.

In those short ten seconds, the acceleration, turning, missile interception, and Decoy Missile releases from Feiyu Aircraft Carrier were executed so swiftly as if well-prepared, leaving one in disbelief. If not for this series of precise directives, even with Feiyu Aircraft Carrier’s Defense Level at twenty, it couldn’t have withstood the saturation attack from 300 missiles.

Now, even though the carrier’s energy shield had collapsed, the vessel itself did not sustain fatal damage. Hanfrey Fleet pulled back from the brink of disaster!

As long as a few minutes could be spared for the carrier, as long as the fighter group attacking [Feiyang Battleship] could return promptly, those insidious and cunning enemies would face retribution! Irrespective of how their fighters ambushed this Star Domain, regardless of how close they had been to victory, they would become mere debris in this interstellar graveyard!
