Counterfeit Hero

”What’s the matter?” General Douglas asked, his expression solemn. He knew that his chief of staff, who was always composed, was running hurriedly for the first time.

”The Military Department has sent a message...” Pang Mingjian handed the first of the two intelligence reports in his hand to General Douglas: ”The Intelligence Bureau has obtained intelligence through agents. Besides the two Elephant-class Royal Fleets, Feiling and Feiyu, from the Western Alliance, the Desic 5th Group Fleet is also on its way. Additionally, Mikami Yuto’s direct fleets—Yingri, Thunderbolt, and Storm—have issued an emergency assembly order. All personnel are to cancel their leave immediately and report back to the fleet within twenty-four hours, preparing to head to the Bermuda Star System.”

”What about the Western Alliance forces in the Bermuda Star System?” General Douglas’s face was like water as he quickly scanned the intelligence in his hand. The emergence of the Desic 5th Fleet made his head spin.

”They’ve already issued a Level 1 battle readiness order and are starting to assemble,” Pang Mingjian replied. ”Clearly, Mikami Yuto wants to first redeploy Bermuda’s troops and then use Jiepeng’s domestic forces to fill in.”

General Douglas smiled wryly, ”They really hold us in high regard.”

Pang Mingjian continued, ”The command center has already sent orders to General Fiscella, directing the Southeast Expeditionary Fleet to move east from the Newton Star System to engage Western Alliance forces in Bermuda and the Leray Central Star Domain, buying us time.”

General Douglas pondered, pacing back and forth.

Pang Mingjian glanced at another file in his hand, hesitated for a moment, and finally handed it to General Douglas: ”General, this is a communication we just received.” Seeing General Douglas take the file with confusion, he added, ”It was sent using a 3S-level password through the No.1 red password communicator!”

”Oh?” General Douglas took the electronic folder, quickly walked to the command desk, and inserted the folder into the information slot. Moments later, lines of text appeared in front of him. He couldn’t help but widen his eyes... Tian Xingjian! What is he doing here?!

”General Douglas, it’s been years since Gazalin. How have you been? Your surprise attack on Blue Stone Star has made you renowned throughout the cosmos. At present, Longbow is indeed the focus of attention for leaders and civilians in various countries. This battle...”

The opening with its overly formal language made General Douglas frown; he really couldn’t imagine that Fatty could be so refined. But soon, he saw the text below take a 180-degree turn.

”Damn it, that was written by my staff. Too lazy to change it, so consider it a greeting. You pulled off your surprise attack on Blue Stone Star beautifully. However, the Western Alliance’s counterattack is imminent. I’m right here in the Longbow Star System, and I’ve seen the Binart Empire’s Royal Fleet. This battle might be tricky. Even if you win, you’ll suffer heavy losses. Once those Jiepeng bastards swarm in, reaching the strategic goal of holding the Longbow Star System to buy time for Chuckna might be impossible. So, after thinking it over, I’ve decided to lend you a hand...

General Douglas quietly finished reading the file, with waves surging in his heart.

He hadn’t expected that the bandit army led by Fatty would actually have a fleet right here. Nor did he anticipate Fatty proposing such a mind-boggling combat plan upon arrival.

He opened the interstellar map, brought up the ambush coordinates from the combat plan, and stared dazedly at the narrow asteroid belt.

”General...” Chief of Staff Pang Mingjian’s voice sounded by his ear. General Douglas turned around, seeing his ever-composed, meticulous chief of staff with a pale face, asking in an incredulous tone.

”This Leray person... is he crazy?”
