Counterfeit Hero

Many of these figures have already faded away. However, in Russell’s mind, they are still so vivid. They were the beacon of hope in the apocalypse. Under the leadership of these elites, Leray has persevered to this point. He cannot betray such trust. This is the last military force of this nation. If it is buried here, then he will never forgive himself!

Russell has never felt such a heavy sense of responsibility. Since learning of Hamilton’s death, this responsibility has felt even more burdensome. Although Leray is not his motherland, this resilient country has already become an inseparable part of his life.

He must ensure that Fatty can hold off the Binart Empire Fleet!

This is the issue that leaves him indecisive. The strategic goals and stance of the Feiyang Fleet have already determined that they cannot be relied upon. Only Fatty can complete this task. But the current Fatty, even if he takes Mars, cannot possibly possess an A-level fleet. His opponent is the Royal Elephant-class Fleet of the Binart Empire! This feeling is like hoping a pigeon egg will shatter a giant rock!

No matter how you look at it, this plan has a bit of a desperate flavor. If that’s the case, wouldn’t it be better to......

”Are you planning to take advantage of the heated battle in the Longbow Star System to launch a surprise attack on the Leray Central Star Domain and lead the fleet to the Newton Star System?” The voice of the little kid suddenly hit Russell’s heart like a hammer. He turned his head abruptly.

”From a logical standpoint....” The little kid persistently rubbed his feet, saying, ”I agree with you, after all, that Fatty is always messing around. Who knows if he has confidence this time... But looking back, everyone put in so much effort to establish this fleet, probably not to have you take it back to the Newton Star System and repeat old paths, right?”

Russell sat quietly in his office chair without speaking.

He understood the reason and mission of this fleet’s birth more than anyone. Although Hamilton did not mention it in his Congress speech, it was clearly written in the secret report of the Supreme Command Department - this is a fleet established to preserve Leray’s last hope, and also to collaborate with Professor Boswell’s interstellar jump point technology.

To survive, sandwiched between the Western Alliance and the Fei Alliance. Until the victory of the Fei Alliance, or until Professor Boswell’s interstellar jump technology matures, and with it, becomes the foundation for Leray’s resurgence. That is the mission of this fleet!

This means the future of this fleet is to grow, not to be wasted in this war that Leray can no longer afford!

If we can’t retreat, then we can only move forward. Meeting with Tian Xingjian and transferring this fleet and independent command authority to him is the wish of everyone, including Hamilton.

Since the coup, the fleet’s supplies have been cut off, and food and water are running low. The Hidden Blade Fleet must make a choice.

The past flashed through Russell’s mind like scenes in a movie.

Whether in Miloke, Gazalin, or the Mars Free Port, that cowardly, timid, honest-looking, indecent-behaving, imaginative Fatty never let him down.

Russell reached for the real-time communication button on the command system, even though he still couldn’t understand how the weak Bandit Army fleet in that asteroid belt, vaguely illuminated by the Constant Star, could defeat the Binart Empire Fleet. Still, he decided to trust his student... his only student!

”As a logically precise artificial intelligence, do you really trust Fatty that much?” Before pressing the communication button, Russell asked the little kid blandly.

The little kid closed the book, his baby-fat face lifted up, with curly hair and big, round, innocent eyes: ”Bro, that’s the world’s most cowardly, shameless, luckiest Fatty. If he’s daring to make a plan, it proves he has confidence.”

”You’re right!” Russell couldn’t help but smile: ”For the entire Fei Alliance, this is a crucial battle. Although I don’t understand how he can win, I think that guy might create a miracle once again. Besides... we still have us!”

Outside, the footsteps of the duty staff resounded.

Looking at the interstellar map, the smile on Russell’s face gradually turned cold: ”... Defeating me isn’t just about ranking higher than me on the Great Generals list!”

In the early morning of September 9, 2063, the Binart Empire’s Feiling Group Fleet’s first column entered the longbow star system jump point, occupying the jump point area and dispersing defenses.

At 1 AM, reconnaissance ships advanced to the middle of the surrounding jump channel and the obstacle area for alert.

At 3 AM, Feiling Fleet’s second and third columns completed the jump successively. Leaving a squadron of warships to guard the jump point, the group fleet immediately proceeded to advance towards Blue Stone Star under Hanfrey’s orders.

At 6:20 AM, the Feiyu Fleet’s three columns completed the jump and joined with the first squadron of the remaining Feiling third column, slowly advancing towards Blue Stone Star.

At 10 AM, the Binart Empire Fleet’s reconnaissance ships first entered the Blue Stone Star space area. After confirming that the stationed Feiyang Fleet had left, they proceeded along the Feiyang retreat route and reported back to the fleet.

Upon receiving the intelligence, Hanfrey decisively ordered the forward Feiling Fleet to turn towards Torreclais Star.

At 11:25 AM, the Feiling Fleet’s second column first squadron’s cruiser ”Karlsruhe” discovered a high-speed approaching Feiyang Fleet on the far side of a planet at coordinates 11502.74001.38325.6. The ship captain sounded the alarm.

Five minutes later, the first wave of attacks hit the cruiser ”Karlsruhe’s” bow, severely damaging the warship.

Without any foreshadowing, this battle in the Southeast Longbow Star System that attracted the attention of the entire human world, destined to be inscribed in history, had begun.

This is a long and narrow congested interstellar passage.

Two obstacle areas almost overlap, with only a short two million kilometers of passage available for full transit.

Cosmic dust and gas pervade the entire channel. Looking around, there are clusters of colorful colors everywhere. The unpredictable gravitational reefs, excessive radiation, and particle storms, rapidly moving asteroids, make this channel particularly dangerous.

For many years, from Blue Stone Star to Torreclais, countless ships have been sacrificed in this channel. Every time they see those wreckages mixed in the asteroid belt, every navigator warns themselves not to repeat the mistakes of those ships. Yet, every year, many ships still fail here.

And now, it has become a battlefield.

In the command room of the ”Oracle” carrier, Bandit Army officers and soldiers silently watched the massive virtual screen, where a brown planet occupied the entire screen. The Feiyang detachment and Binart Empire’s vanguard squadron were engaged in fierce combat with that planet as the backdrop.

Warships were spiraling at high speeds. The warships on both sides formed triangle attack formations. While maintaining distance, they swiftly moved and fired at high speed.

Blue ion light flows in the brown planet like two swarms of fireflies. The interwoven energy cannon lights were far more dazzling than the ion thrusters’ glowing trails. When the glowing silk and electric sparks gathered at the energy cannon mouths were violently ejected, the entire universe was illuminated by this destructive light.

Margaret stared blankly at the virtual screen.

To her, such small-scale skirmishes were nothing special. She’s seen even more spectacular ones.

However, she couldn’t understand.

How did this reconnaissance ship broadcasting live images manage to lurk in the center of this battlefield... Yes, it’s not high-magnification optical filming from hundreds of thousands of kilometers away. It’s almost filming right beside the combatants.

In the zoomed-in footage, the faces in the portholes of the Binart Empire Fleet’s warships were clearly seen.

She glanced at the completely sealed windows of the ”Oracle,” then turned her head back to look at Fatty.

Fatty sat quietly at the command platform. On the control console computer in front of him, five sections of the battle progression line were already marked in red for the first section. Margaret knew that when the Feiyang Fleet fell back step by step during the blockade, when Douglas couldn’t gain a strategic advantage as the battle progression reached the fifth stage, then after the last blockade, the Bandit Army would launch an attack.
