Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 199, The Black Shadow of the Fallen Corpse Ruin

Translator: Silavin

Lu Fan thought for a moment and felt that what Lui Fei said made some sense.

Although the body of the Blood Moon’s Owner and the vast lake before them were enormous, they still seemed small compared to the entirety of the Far North.

The body of the Blood Moon’s Owner currently only occupied about one-tenth of the Far North explored by the Griffin Legion. Where the edge of the Far North was, the Griffin Legion was still far from reaching it.

At present, the area explored by the Griffin Legion might not even account for five percent of the Far North. In comparison, both the Blood Moon’s Owner and the ice lake should only be a small part of the Far North.

The more he thought about it, the more Lu Fan could feel his own insignificance in this world.

Of course, it was too early to think about these things. What Lu Fan cared more about was what lay ahead.

Since everyone had already come this far, they naturally planned to continue forward, onto the great lake along the iron chain extending into the lake bottom, to see where it led and what it was connected to.

However, after some thought, Lu Fan did not let Lui Fei and the others set out.

Lui Fei and the others had a lot of experience in surviving in the Far North, but this vast lake before them was clearly a whole other area, and their experience was no longer applicable here.

Facing a brand new area, especially one behind the Blood Moon’s Owner in the depths of the Far North, the level of danger was inconceivable.

In comparison, Lu Fan decided it was better for him to ride Xiao Ye alone to check out the great lake.

Currently, where everyone was located was at the junction of two areas, and there were basically no more Monsters here. So, Lu Fan could leave Lui Fei and the others here without worrying about anything.

However, when they heard that Lu Fan wanted to go ahead alone to investigate, Lui Fei and the others were reluctant to agree.

Lu Fan knew they were worried about him, so he smiled and said. “Brother Lui, don’t worry. These days with you, what I’ve mastered is not only the skills and knowledge to survive in the Far North, but in the process of imperceptible influence, I’ve also learned from you how to stay alive as much as possible in unknown areas while completing tasks that need to be done.”

“Even Brother Lu said that there’s nothing more to teach me about surviving in the Wilderness. I don’t think my experience and knowledge in self-preservation is worse than yours in any aspect. Moreover, I have a Pet Dragon with me. Even if I go to a new area, I still have the ability you’ve all taught me to stay alive.”

After a pause, Lu Fan continued to reassure the three. “Don’t worry, I’m not going to explore the map alone for four or five days. I’ll just go forward, and come back in a few hours. I won’t do anything rash.”

Hearing Lu Fan say this, Shen Cai and Lu Changkong’s gazes turned to Lui Fei.

These days, the three had been closely following Lu Fan. Now both had also been promoted to Bronze Wing.

In theory, the four had equal status in the military. But out of habit, everyone still recognized Lui Fei, the old soldier, as the Squad Leader, and would first seek his opinion on everything.

Lui Fei pondered for a moment. Perhaps feeling that with Lu Fan’s strength, there was indeed nothing to worry about, he finally nodded and gave the green light. “Alright then. Lu Fan, it’s good for you to go ahead and take a look. The three of us are admittedly not as strong as you.  We don’t want to hold you back. Just be careful when you’re out there. Once you encounter any danger, come back quickly. I’ll have Shen Cai prepare the Transport Array to go back. If anything unexpected happens, we’ll escape immediately.”

“Alright, no problem!” Lu Fan agreed happily, then rode Xiao Ye and temporarily parted with Lui Fei and the others.

Lui Fei and the others stayed behind, setting up an outpost while resting, waiting for Lu Fan to return.

Lu Fan rode Xiao Ye and quickly flew into the area where the great lake was located.

Instantly, the map information updated, showing that Lu Fan had left the Far North and arrived at a place called the Fallen Corpse Ruin.

Seeing the words ‘Fallen Corpse Ruin’, Lu Fan’s body shook. [This really is the Fallen Corpse Ruin Lu Luo had mentioned. It really exists, and it’s just behind the enormous carcass…]

In this way, the Fallen Corpse Ruin corresponded to the Holy Mountain Ruin of Star Strip Country. The two were almost identical, both with a terrifying existence seemingly about to revive in front of the ruin, both with a Forbidden Area that ordinary people could not set foot in behind enormous beings.

[If that’s the case, in the Fallen Corpse Ruin, would there be something that could correspond to the bronze temple in the Holy Mountain Ruin?] Lu Fan could not help but fix his gaze on the enormous iron chain at the bottom of the valley.

This iron chain plunged into the lake bottom, extending forward, disappearing beyond the range of Lu Fan’s vision.

Lu Fan felt that the ultimate secret of the Fallen Corpse Ruin should be discovered along this chain.

Due to the precedent of a Fourth Profession Player disappearing in the Holy Mountain Ruin, Lu Fan was extremely careful when exploring the great lake. He ensured that he would know immediately if there was any unusual movement.

However, Lu Fan had been flying for more than two hours and had not encountered anything unusual. There was really nothing around him, even the sound of the wind had disappeared. There was only the sound of Xiao Ye flapping her wings and his own heartbeat.

As for below, the ice layer on the lake surface was still hundreds of metres thick, but the ice surface was as smooth as a mirror, and one could clearly see the iron chain at the lake bottom continuing to extend forward in the lake water, with no end in sight.

[This place is really extraordinarily large…] Although there had been no danger encountered along the way, Lu Fan did not lower his guard, only letting Xiao Ye fly a bit faster.

Another hour passed, Lu Fan finally discovered something at the limit of his vision.

The iron chain at the lake bottom finally stopped extending endlessly and appeared as a pitch-black enormous object, square-shaped, immersed in the lake water.

Although it was very far away and the square-shaped thing did not look big, Lu Fan secretly compared the iron chain with the Blood Moon’s Owner and could deduce that this black object was not to be underestimated. It was almost as big as the head of the Blood Moon’s Owner.

This thing was rectangular, and because it was too far away and in the lake water, Lu Fan could not see it clearly, only feeling that it looked like an enormously huge coffin.

Moreover, this coffin was not only bound by a single chain.

Lu Fan saw that two more iron chains extended from the huge coffin, stretching in other directions until they disappeared beyond the range of his vision.

[Could it be that there are two more existences similar to the Blood Moon’s Owner in other parts of the Fallen Corpse Ruin, also bound by iron chains, connected to this coffin-like thing!?]

The more Lu Fan saw, the more he felt that the Fallen Corpse Ruin was extremely bizarre.

Lu Fan originally wanted to fly closer to see what exactly that coffin-like thing was. However, at this moment, Lu Fan’s pupils contracted.

After all, he saw that under that black coffin, a black shadow had swum out!

This black shadow was about as thick as the iron chain, like a loach. Lu Fan could not clearly see what it looked like, but he could tell that it had discovered him and was swimming quickly towards him!

Lu Fan felt a chill down his back, but he did not panic. Instead, he use Appraisal Eye at this being from afar.

And the result that Lu Fan got was ‘???’. It was exactly the same as when he used it on the Blood Moon’s Owner.

[In other words, this thing is an existence of the same level of existence as the Blood Moon’s Owner!?]

The Blood Moon’s Owner, which only had one eye opened, was already terrifying. It was unimaginable what a fully awake being of the same level would represent.

With the appearance of the other party, Xiao Ye, who possessed the Black Dragon King’s Perception Passive, also became anxious.

Obviously, Xiao Ye did not want to fight with the other party right now.

Lu Fan also knew that currently, both he and Xiao Ye were too low in Level to face this.

It was quite simple for them to bully Third Profession Players and weaker Monsters, but once they encountered those that truly stood at the summit, whose Levels far surpassed their own, they would be at a great disadvantage.

So, Lu Fan did not plan to have any direct conflict with the other party. He directly pulled the reins, making Xiao Ye turn around and head back.

However, the black shadow that had discovered Lu Fan’s existence did not seem to intend to let Lu Fan leave. It still chased after him, and its speed at swimming was even faster than Xiao Ye’s flying!

Seeing this, Lu Fan did not panic. He immediately activated the Skill of his Ring of the Wind Spirit Whisperer, Wind Spirit Whisperer. This instantly increased his Agility Attribute by 35%.

Now, because they were in their Riding State, Lu Fan and Xiao Ye shared their Attributes. So, although Wind Spirit Whisperer could only increase the Attributes of its wearer, in their Riding State, it was equivalent to increasing the Agility Attribute for both Lu Fan and Xiao Ye.

After increasing the Agility Attribute by 35%, Xiao Ye’s flying speed was obviously much faster.

This was not all. Lu Fan was even more generous in activating the Void Break Skill again, making Xiao Ye suddenly assault forward in mid-air.

After releasing four charges of Void Break, they immediately pulled away some distance from the black shadow that was constantly following behind.

When the Skill Cooldown ended, Lu Fan activated Void Break again, fleeing at their fastest speed.

Because the distance between the two was already very far, and Lu Fan’s escaping speed was fast, after chasing for a while, the black shadow probably felt that it was difficult to catch up with Lu Fan and finally gave up. At some unknown time, it had swum back, probably returning to the coffin at the bottom of the lake.

Seeing that this thing was no longer chasing after him, Lu Fan finally relaxed and returned with Xiao Ye to where Lui Fei and the others were.

Seeing Lu Fan return, Lui Fei and the others, who were resting, quickly stood up and actively asked, “How was it, Brother Lu? Did you discover anything?”
