Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 184, They Thought He Was a Burden, But He Turned Out to Be a Big Shot

Translator: Silavin

Soon, everything returned to calm.

Lui Fei and the others were dug out of the snow by the two Griffins, then tossed onto their backs.

Even Shen Cai was excavated. Her Pet Eagles grabbed her by the shoulders and carried into the air.

The three did not even have time to brush the snow off themselves before looking towards Lu Fan’s direction.

The sight made all three shudder, shocked beyond measure.

After all, where were the Ice Plain Yetis?

Lu Fan’s final strike had completely cleared the whole battlefield. The Ice Plain Yetis did not even leave carcassess behind after that arrow strike.

Not just the Ice Plain Yetis, but the battlefield had now become a deep pit, like a dried-up lake.

The deepest point of the depression might have reached twenty metres.

The snow had long been cleared away, and the eternally frozen, exceptionally hard ice beneath had been shattered, showing the power of Lu Fan’s arrow just now.

Of course, although Lu Fan’s arrow was powerful, what really shocked Lui Fei and the others was the Black Dragon now flying to Lu Fan’s side.

They had heard of one of Dragon Country’s Dragon Tamer having a Black Dragon, but no one had seen it.

To others, the Dragon Race was like deities. If someone could possess a Pet Dragon, it would be like taming a God. It was not an exaggeration to call them a God above Gods.

Now, the person who possessed a Giant Dragon was right in front of them. They did not even dare to look directly at this Dragon Tamer, who had tamed a Giant Dragon.

On the other hand, Lu Fan was quite satisfied with the power of this arrow shot. [That shot definitely surpasses my strongest Skill, Roar of the Blue Dragon King. In the future, I can let my Pet Dragons charge to the front lines while I shoot out arrows from behind.]

Whether it was Serpents Swarm the Sky or Serpent’s Hidden Arrow, no Third Profession Player could withstand it.

Tu Jing had indeed given him an excellent weapon.

Lu Fan put away Underworld Serpent’s Cry, originally intending to send Xiao Ye back.

However, she specifically told Lu Fan, through their spiritual connection, that she did not want to go back. It was quite dangerous here, and she wanted to stay to protect him.

Learning of her thoughts, Lu Fan almost burst into tears. [As expected of the Daughter I have raised! You really know how to take care of your Old Father!]

In this aspect, Xiao Ye and Xiao Cui were both like warm cotton jackets. It was satisfying for Lu Fan to be around them. They were unlike Xing Chen, who was like a cold cotton jacket.

If Lu Fan summoned Xing Chen now, she would probably sweep away all the Monsters and then clamour to go back.

Although the environment here was harsh, she was a Pure Blood Giant Dragon after all. The low-temperature environment would make her feel that uncomfortable, and would make her temper a bit more volatile.

Since they still needed to complete the exploration Mission, Xiao Ye’s Combat Power was an indispensable presence.

Lu Fan had also basically figured out the environment of the Far North. Now, he had the ability and knowledge to explore together with Lui Fei and the others.

Thus, Lu Fan did not return Xiao Ye back.

At this time, Lui Fei and the others were flying towards Lu Fan, but as soon as they approached, Xiao Ye sensed them and turned back with a low growl.

Immediately, a strong sense of pressure rolled out. Lui Fei and the others all shuddered, and their Sky Mounts trembled all over, not daring to move forward.

Lu Fan patted her and comforted, “It’s alright, Xiao Ye, they’re our people.”

Hearing Lu Fan say this, Xiao Ye finally restrained her fierce demeanour a bit. However, she was such a mighty Black Dragon, even just hovering in mid-air was a source of pressure for others.

No matter how hard Lui Fei and the others tried, their Sky Mounts still dared not to approach Lu Fan.

With no choice, Lu Fan had Xiao Ye change to her Infant Form, then wrapped her tightly in his Griffin Legion Uniform, leaving only her small head exposed.

This made Xiao Ye very happy, as she could avoid flying herself and snuggle with Lu Fan for warmth.

The Sky Mounts of Lui Fei and the others took some time before their fear of this small Black Dragon lessened.

Lui Fei rode his Griffin, bringing the others to fly forward. Looking at the Black Dragon in Lu Fan’s arms with only its small head exposed, he was both surprised and incredulous, exclaiming, “Lu Fan, is this your Pet Dragon?”

“You are this year’s top student from Dragon Country’s South Province. It also stated how you are a Dragon Tamer with a Dragon! How incredible…”

Lu Fan smiled and asked, “Brother Lui knows about me?”

Lui Fei gave a bitter smile and said. “Of course I know. Although it’s isolated here and we don’t know much about what’s happening in the outside world, for the past few days, Lord Northern Marquis has been very interested in you. Many Dragon Capital spies pay attention to your movements. Us subordinates occasionally hear and see things. Although we do not know much about you, we’ve heard that you have a Black Dragon, which is extremely strong. It is said that you would be unrivalled among Dragon Country’s younger generation, with limitless future potential.”

Being praised like this, Lu Fan felt a bit embarrassed and said, “You’re praising me too much.”

“Am I?” Lui Fei looked at the Black Dragon in Lu Fan’s arms, then at the devastation left by the battle just now, thinking to himself, [Do you even need to be praised? If Lord Northern Marquis had said earlier that you were that Dragon Tamer, we would have just laid down in submission long ago…]

Compared to Lui Fei, Lu Changkong was more familiar with Lu Fan. If he was not afraid of Xiao Ye in Lu Fan’s arms biting him, he would definitely have come over to put his arm around Lu Fan’s shoulder.

However, even while maintaining a safe distance, Lu Changkong was still quite excited. He threw a punch through the air, as if wanting to hit Lu Fan’s chest as he said, “You little rascal, you’ve been hiding so much! We thought you were a burden, but now, we know you’re actually a big shot!”

Lu Fan smiled and said, “I’m sorry, Brother Lu. Because I’ve just arrived here and wasn’t familiar with the environment, I originally wanted to properly learn from all of you, to avoid acting rashly and causing trouble for you. So at the beginning, I didn’t do anything, just followed you to understand the area, and didn’t contribute much. You’ve been leading me for so long, sorry for the trouble.”

These words made Lu Changkong wave his hands repeatedly, saying, “I understand, I understand. Actually, what you did was correct. Although you’re very strong, this place is different from other regions. If you thought you were very powerful and rushed around recklessly, it would have caused us trouble instead. Compared to those impetuous youngsters, I think your approach was more appropriate. At least, you didn’t cause us trouble, and you also helped us at critical moments like just now. No matter what, it ended with great results.”

Lui Fei also nodded and said, “Yes, your approach was not wrong. If we need someone to blame, it would be us. We underestimated you before. Actually, I should have realised far sooner. How could someone brought by Lord Northern Marquis be here just for the sake of reputation? Since he let you come with us on this Mission, he must have his own reasons.”

Lu Fan smiled and nodded, saying, “Thank you for understanding, Brother Lui and Brother Lu.”

In fact, there was another reason why Lu Fan only acted in the final critical moment: he did not want to reveal too many of his cards in front of outsiders.

After the assassination attempt in Villa No. 1, Lu Fan had become much more cautious.

Even Dragon Capital University had spies infiltrated. Although Tu Jing said the people of the Griffin Legion were very reliable, being a little more careful certainly would not hurt.

The fewer cards he revealed in front of outsiders, the better.

As for exposing Xiao Ye, Lu Fan had already taken it into consideration. To complete the exploration Mission here, he really needed her Combat Power. At the same time, only she needed to fight.

Xiao Cui and Xing Chen need not be summoned for now. They could become two trump cards he could pull out at critical moments.

Secondly, Lu Fan also needed to take this opportunity to Level her up. He was still hoping to get her to Level 30 before going to the National Trial. If she reached Level 30 and entered her Maturing Period, he would be able to equip her with the Dragon Saddle, and become a true Silver Dragon Rider. It would surely significantly boost his Combat Power.

Even if she had not entered her Maturing Period at Level 30, reaching this Level should allow her to learn some Skills.

In any case, the fastest way to get strong now was definitely to Level her up first. So, exposing her existence was a necessity.

Regarding his intentional hiding of his strength, Lui Fei and the others should have been able to see through it. They also never questioned him on it. After all, they understood the situation Lu Fan was in. With such an overpowered Pet, it was fine to keep a low profile and only reveal his cards at critical moments.

Moreover, Lu Fan revealing the fact that he had a Pet Dragon to them meant he saw them as allies.

This made Lui Fei and the others have no complaints of Lu Fan. In fact, they felt that their relationship with him became even closer.

Now that Lu Fan had exposed Xiao Ye’s existence, everyone’s assessment of his position in the squad needed to change.

Lu Fan now understood the Far North to some extent and could fully engage in battle without causing any trouble for the squad. This way, everyone’s exploration speed could increase considerably.

However, the dangers of the Far North certainly could not be fully understood in just half a day. To survive in the Wilderness, Lu Fan still needed to continue accumulating experience. So, everyone still maintained their original formation, with Shen Cai’s Pet Eagle leading the way, and Lui Fei following closely behind.

As for Lu Changkong and Lu Fan, they were still behind the two.

But unlike before, Lu Changkong did not need to divide his attention to protect Lu Fan, he just needed to tell Lu Fan how to protect himself in this icy world along the way.

As for encountering Monsters, Lu Fan and Xiao Ye naturally became the Main Damage Dealers. A wave of Monsters would basically be slaughtered in one encounter by the man and Dragon, without needing others to intervene.

Because of this, Lu Fan unknowingly accumulated Military Merits very quickly, and the group’s forward progress was also very fast, about ten times the speed of Lui Fei’s original three man squad.

The difficulty of the exploration Mission was firstly Monster invasions, and secondly the dangerous environment.

Although the second danger could not really be avoided, with Lu Fan present, Monster invasions were no longer a problem.

Monster packs that originally needed to be carefully avoided were now directly crushed by Lu Fan and his Dragon, saving them a lot of time.

Four days later, Lu Fan and the others had explored four hundred kilometres forward, mapping out about seventy to eighty percent of the previously black area on the map.

Finally, after Xiao Ye killed a group of Yetis, a golden light flashed over her body. She has reached Level 30!
