Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 172, Grandpa Tu, the Hero of Dragon Country?

Translator: Silavin

This form of address made Lu Fan pause in surprise. He looked at the man outside the door, who appeared even younger than Qin Shanhai, and asked, puzzled, “Xiao Qiu, you know this man?”

Qin Qiu said in a daze, “Yes, I know him. He’s my Father’s teacher. I’ve called him Grandpa Tu since I was little… But what’s going on here? Grandpa Tu, why are you here? And Lu Fan, Jian Ying, why are you so tense?”

Lu Fan now knew the man’s identity even if he was a fool, given that he was Qin Shanhai’s teacher and surnamed Tu.

[He’s Tu Jing! The man who had helped me a lot with the Jin Zhu issue!] Lu Fan was somewhat surprised because Qin Shanhai had previously told him many of Tu Jing’s exploits. In Qin Shanhai’s description, Tu Jing was definitely a resilient man, recognised as a hero.

He alone on horseback had held off a High Level Monster Tide for a full two days and two nights.

In the end, when the Monster Tide was repelled and he fainted on the spot, his entire body had not fallen. He still stood with a weapon in his hand, ready to fight at any moment.

After that battle, he slept for a full three days before regaining consciousness.

Ten years ago, when the South Country suddenly invaded their borders, it happened to be guarded by Tu Jing. At that time, Tu Jing led the Griffin Legion of five hundred men, crushing the enemy in their counterattack. In three days, they forcibly fought their way to the South Country’s palace. They even sat on the South Country King’s bed, and forced the King to sign a surrender treaty. Now, South Country agreed to pay tribute every year and acknowledge vassalage to Dragon Country. Once the war was over, they triumphantly returned, becoming famous in that one battle.

Similar exploits like these were so well known that Qin Shanhai need not tell them. Lu Fan could find a bunch of them with just a quick search online.

As a representative figure of the Upright Faction, Tu Jing’s heroic deeds could not be fully recounted even in three days and three nights.

Due to all these accomplishments, in Lu Fan’s imagination, Tu Jing must have an incredibly brave appearance, exuded an domineering aura, and every move of his gave others immense pressure.

However, although the person before him looked sturdy and had a vague tough guy aura, compared to the heroic image in Lu Fan’s mind, there were still some discrepancies. [Guess it’s normal to have some stereotypes about someone I’ve never met. Who says the hero of Dragon Country can’t be a rough man with slightly greying hair who looks carefree like the winds?]

[Since Qin Qiu had recognised him as Tu Jing, his identity has been confirmed.] Realising this, Lu Fan was about to explain that it was all a misunderstanding when Tu Jing stepped in from outside. He spoke to Qin Qiu with a face full of smiles, “You’re Qin Shanhai’s Daughter, right? You’ve changed so much compared to when you were little. But you’re still so beautiful now, like your Mother, not like your Father, Hahaha!”

Qin Qiu smiled and said. “You’re still the same as before, haven’t changed at all. That’s why I recognised you at a glance.”

“Haven’t changed? In the blink of an eye, it’s been seven or eight years since we last met, right? I’ve got a lot more white hair now.” Tu Jing touched his hair, then looked at Lu Fan, his smile not diminishing, “You must be the Dragon Tamer kid. Although we’ve never met, you should know about me, right? I helped you quite a bit with the Extremistis Country’s Princess!”

Lu Fan smiled apologetically, waving his hand to signal Jian Ying to put away her weapons. He stepped forward and said. “Senior’s name, I’ve definitely heard of it. I’m very grateful for your help in speaking up for me before. I’m really sorry about just now. It’s just that something happened at our Dragon Capital University yesterday. Today as soon as we opened the door, we saw you had knocked out so many teachers, so…”

Tu Jing waved his hand and said. “It’s fine, you don’t need to explain. I know everything and I understand.”

Saying this, he looked at the teachers outside the door and helplessly said, “I originally wanted to explain things properly, but these people were too nervous. Seeing an unfamiliar person approaching your house, they immediately took action without giving me a chance to explain. I had no choice. By the way, Xiao Qiu, aren’t you a Holy Light Mage? Why don’t you use a few Skills to wake them up?”

Qin Qiu stuck out her tongue, embarrassed, and said, “Grandpa Tu, I changed my Profession to Inquisitor after my Second Profession Change. I’ve become a pure Damage Dealer now, I don’t have much ability to Heal…”

“Is that so… That’s a bit troublesome then…” Tu Jing smiled bitterly, “We can’t just let these guys lie here. If others see this, they might think something has happened at Dragon Capital University again.”

Just at this moment, an electric arc shot quickly from afar, stopping at the door of Villa No. 2.

Zhao Shengming waved his hand to disperse the electric arc. Looking at the fallen experts of the University, his forehead twitching.

He had just received news that a strange man had approached the villa where Lu Fan was staying, a man who had instantly taken out all the guards. Fearing it was another expert trying to assassinate Lu Fan, Zhao Shengming notified all nearby experts to come over, and even rushed over himself, only to see this scene.

Zhao Shengming was about to enter Villa No. 2 to check on the situation, but before he could enter, he saw Tu Jing standing by the door.

Immediately, Zhao Shengming was stunned and blurted out, “Lord Northern Marquis, you… why are you here!?”

From Zhao Shengming’s attitude, it was clear that he revered Tu Jing. After saying this, he quickly stood up straight, slightly bowing his head, like a soldier waiting for an inspection.

“Ah, Zhao Shengming.” Tu Jing immediately recognised Zhao Shengming, and smiled when he saw him arrive. “You’ve come at the right time. Can you help me deal with the guys on the floor?”

Tu Jing soon briefly explained the situation from earlier.

Learning that it was all a misunderstanding, Zhao Shengming relaxed and bitterly smiled, “So that’s what happened… I’m really sorry for disturbing you.”

“It’s alright, you were just protecting the kid. Later, please apologise to those on the ground on my behalf.” Tu Jing said cheerfully.

Zhao Shengming hurriedly said, “Lord Northern Marquis, you’re too kind… In that case, I’ll first find someone to take them all for treatment. I won’t disturb you further.”

Tu Jing nodded, then closed the door.

Although it was Lu Fan’s first time meeting Tu Jing, he had long admired this hero of Dragon Country who had helped him.

Lu Fan quickly invited Tu Jing into the villa to rest and entertained him.

Since Tu Jing had some prior interaction with Lu Fan, and Qin Qiu was familiar with Tu Jing, plus Tu Jing was more easy going than Lu Fan had imagined, communicating with him was not as awkward as Lu Fan had thought it would be.

On the contrary, Tu Jing was a straightforward man who did not like to beat around the bush, which made people feel quite comfortable and at ease.

After some casual chatter with Qin Qiu about Family matters, Tu Jing quickly explained his purpose for coming, and informed Lu Fan that before arriving, he had already discussed with the principal. As long as Lu Fan was willing, he could leave with him for the Extremely Far North Ice Plains at any time.

Regarding this invitation, Tu Jing also informed Lu Fan of the pros and cons.

The Extremely Far North Ice Plains was a harsh place, but often the more barren the land, the more it could temper a person. Things like running Dungeon Instances and sparring in PvP could improve a person’s strength, no doubt, but a person’s survival skills and combat instinct in the Wilderness were equally important aspects of strength.

This kind of experience and skill was even more important for the National Trial Secret Realm.

Lu Fan was quite lacking in this aspect, so going to the Extremely Far North Ice Plains under Tu Jing’s guidance should lead to rapid progress.

The most important point was that Dragon Capital University was not absolutely safe right now. In comparison, Lu Fan would be free from the risk of assassination in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains. Even if Lu Fan was strong enough, had the principal’s protection, and the assassination attempts on him fails, what about the people around him?

People like Qin Qiu and Han Ke, once affected, could be in mortal danger, just like yesterday.

Tu Jing laid out the pros and cons in a few words, causing Lu Fan to fall into deep thought.

Undoubtedly, Tu Jing’s words made a lot of sense, and Lu Fan had no reason to refuse.

Moreover, the main reason Lu Fan was willing to follow Tu Jing to the Extremely Far North Ice Plains was that – the location on his Divine Grade Treasure Map was in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains!

Therefore, when he heard that Tu Jing had come to Dragon Capital University to invite him to stay in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains, Lu Fan’s heart skipped a beat. [Isn’t this too much of a coincidence?]

He had just been worrying that the Extremely Far North Ice Plains was a Forbidden Area, which he would not be able to set foot in. Yet, in the blink of an eye, someone was inviting him to go to the Extremely Far North Ice Plains.

According to Tu Jing, his Griffin Legion was stationed deep in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains. Lu Fan could save a lot of travel by going to this camp through a Transport Array. But how far the camp was from the coordinates of the Treasure Map was hard to say, because only when Lu Fan personally went to the camp would he potentially know of the camp’s coordinates.

It was impossible to expect Tu Jing to tell Lu Fan this information right now, as this was confidential.

[In any case, a trip to the Extremely Far North Ice Plains won’t hurt. Even if there is no way for me to claim the Treasure Map, I would still be able to temporarily avoid assassination attempts. I would be able to live in the Wilderness with Tu Jing for a while, and even gain some Levels.] After brief consideration, Lu Fan decided to accept Tu Jing’s invitation and go with him to the Extremely Far North Ice Plains.

Seeing Lu Fan agree so readily, Tu Jing was also slightly surprised. He smiled and said, “It’s good that you’re willing. I thought that after telling you about how harsh the Extremely Far North Ice Plains is, you’d at least need to think it over. After all, kids these days are not used to suffering through such hardships.”

Lu Fan smiled and said. “Actually, I’m also afraid I can’t endure the hard life there. But then I thought, you’ve been in the Extremely Far North Ice Plains for so long and you’re doing fine, so why wouldn;t I be able to endure?”

“Hahaha! What a good kid you are! I knew you had potential!” Tu Jing’s eyes flashed with a bright light, “I’ve wanted to meet you for a long time, and now that we’ve met, you haven’t disappointed me. Kid, have you considered joining the military after you graduate? If my information is correct, your Second Profession should be Silver Dragon Rider, right? My Griffin Legion welcomes anyone who can ride.”

“That can be considered.” Lu Fan nodded.

Lu Fan was not joking. If he really joined the military, it would be equivalent to having an iron rice bowl, which would mean a stable life.

Lu Fan’s answer made Tu Jing laugh heartily, the wrinkles on his face deepening. He slapped his forehead and said, “Look at me, I’m really getting old. I’m so forgetful now.”

“This time, when I came over, I also prepared a meeting gift for you. It can help you improve your strength a bit, so you can get a good ranking in the National Trial.” Saying this, Tu Jing took out the black box from before and placed it in front of Lu Fan.

Silavin: [Isn’t this too much of a coincidence?] – You’re right it is. Protagonist aura strike again!
