Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 161, You Really Want Me to Use My Full Strength?

Translator: Silavin

Lu Fan nodded firmly and said. “Yes, I want to go. It’s precisely because the National Trial is so important that I want to personally participate and win for Dragon Country.”

Lu Fan’s words made Zhao Shengming and some other University leaders nod in approval, but Ruan Changfeng scoffed. “First place? What makes you think you can get first place? Just because you’re level 32?”

Lu Fan smiled and said. “Special Envoy, I believe that while Level can be a proxy for Combat Power, it can’t be the standard measurement for everything. I’m confident I can face Third Profession Players and I’m confident that I can win first place.”

Ruan Changfeng shot back. “The National Trial isn’t just about confidence, it’s about real strength and abilities!”

He stood up and continued, “You say you have confidence and strength? Fine, I’ve already discussed it with your principal. I’ll now conduct an assessment of you. If you can pass my assessment and satisfy me, I’ll agree to send you to participate in the National Trial. But if you can’t pass, then give up!”

Ruan Changfeng looked at the principal and sneered. “I would have to report to my higher ups and cancel Dragon Capital University’s qualification to participate in the National Trial. I hear that although Southern River University came in second in the University competition, they have made ample preparations for the National Trial. Southern River University’s First Seed might not be a Player with a Hidden Profession, but is someone who has already undergone their Third Profession Change. That person is just waiting for this opportunity.”

“Dragon Capital University, you are all betting everything on a level 32 Player who has only just gone through his Second Profession Change. This is simply absurd! If Southern River University snatches away the opportunity to take part in the National Trial, you can’t blame me for it! If you want to blame someone, blame yourselves for being fools and not taking this matter seriously enough!”

The principal nodded, and an ethereal voice surprising Lu Fan came out. “No problem.”

Lu Fan thought to himself. [No wonder teachers like teacher Gu don’t know much about this principal. This principal is so intent on hiding all information about themself. It is indeed difficult to uncover anything about this principal’s identity…]

At this point, seeing that the principal had no objections, Ruan Changfeng smiled and said with his hands behind his back. “Very well, I’ll now assess Dragon Capital University’s First Seed. As for the assessment method, it’s simple. You just need to defeat me to pass!”

Ruan Changfeng’s last sentence immediately caused many of the teachers present to start discussing amongst themselves, and the entire reception hall fell into chaos.

Special Envoy Ruan Changfeng was considered a big shot in Dragon Capital. Those who knew him were aware that although he climbed to his previous position not through strength, being in that high of a position meant he was definitely not weak.

Not to mention anything else, just his level 76 alone should be enough to completely crush Lu Fan.

Lu Fan was only level 32, not even half of Ruan Changfeng’s Level. So, how could he possibly win? There was no way he could win!

Yet, Ruan Changfeng declared that Lu Fan had to defeat him to pass the assessment. This was clearly making things difficult.

The University leaders were all disgruntled. They were all keenly aware that the Special Envoy was overtly forcing Dragon Capital University to give up their spot in the National Trial.

Not just these leaders, even Zhao Shengming frowned. He had thought that even if Ruan Changfeng intended to make things difficult, the assessment should be something like having Lu Fan last five minutes against him. Yet, Ruan Changfeng directly made it a requirement for Lu Fan to defeat him. He was making no effort to hide his intention to cause trouble!

After a moment of silence, Zhao Shengming took the initiative to say. “Special Envoy, isn’t this assessment too difficult? You’re already Level 76. Requiring a Level 32 Second Profession Player to defeat you is too unreasonable, isn’t it? Is there any Player in this world who can overcome a 30 Level difference and defeat someone above them?”

Ruan Changfeng coldly snorted, already having prepared for this argument.”I’m not the one who is insisting on having a level 32 Second Profession Player participate in the National Trial. What does his Level have to do with me? My task is to assess if the Seed we are selecting is someone strong enough to compete with the elite representatives from the 23 other countries. My sole purpose is to ensure Dragon Country achieves a good ranking in the National Trial!”

“Do you think the other countries’ representatives will go easy on him just because we tell them he is only Level 32?” After a pause, Ruan Changfeng took two steps forward with his hands behind his back and coldly snorted. “I think you people from Dragon Capital University already know how strong those country representatives are. Being frank with you, even if I was the one participating, I might not be able to achieve a good result. Those eight Third Profession Players may have just reached level 60, but they’re all prodigies. I might not even be their match.”

“If the representative you send from Dragon Capital University can’t even beat me, how can we hope to defeat the other representatives!? So, my assessment standard still stands. Only by defeating me can you pass the assessment. Moreover, I will use my full strength and show no mercy. If Dragon Capital University wants to change your candidate, do it now. Otherwise, the chance of participating in the National Trial might really be given away!”

Hearing this, Zhao Shengming felt even more uncertain. [If Ruan Changfeng, a level 76 Third Profession Player, goes all out… if Lu Fan accepted this assessment, his life might really be in danger…]

[Ruan Changfeng’s targeting is obvious. But, his words leave no room for criticism. If Lu Fan is seriously injured during the assessment, he can truly only blame his horrendous luck…] Zhao Shengming hesitated, but the principal beside him calmly stated, “I think this assessment standard is fine.”

Zhao Shengming was startled and turned to look at the principal in surprise.

The latter made no further movement, as if what was just said earlier was an insignificant matter.

Zhao Shengming moved closer, wanting to quietly advise whether they should consider Lu Fan’s safety. After all, even if the other party does not actually kill Lu Fan, if he went too hard, Lu Fan might be bedridden for weeks if not months.

However, the principal did not wait for Zhao Shengming to whisper, and directly asked Lu Fan, “Are you willing to accept the assessment?”

Lu Fan smiled and nodded. “I think what the Special Envoy said makes sense. Since we’re fighting for our country, we naturally can’t be careless. I’m willing to accept the assessment!”

Seeing Lu Fan agree so easily, Ruan Changfeng was taken aback. But then, a smile appeared on his face. After all, at the end of the day, this was the result he wished for.

Under the guise of official business, he could not only deprive Lu Fan of the chance to participate in the National Trial, but also openly teach him a lesson, avenging his own three rank demotion. Was this not the best of all worlds?

“Very well, I’ll assess you now!” Ruan Changfeng reached out, and a Knight’s greatsword appeared in his hand.

This greatsword looked to be of High Level, possibly of Platinum Grade.

Clearly, Ruan Changfeng’s resources were not shallow. Even among those of the same Level, he should be among the stronger ones.

After taking out his weapon, Ruan Changfeng looked around and said, “This place is not suitable for the assessment. Principal, doesn’t your University have a dedicated sparring arena? Could you take us there?”

“Oh, right, also call a couple High Level Priests too. I won’t hold back in this assessment. If there’s an accident, your Priests should be prepared in case of an emergency.”

Hearing this, Lu Fan also nodded and said, “Yes, we must have Priests ready.”

Seeing Lu Fan make the same suggestion, Ruan Changfeng inwardly laughed. Naturally, he was assuming that Lu Fan was the one who was afraid of being fatally injured.

Little did he know, Lu Fan was just worried that if something happened to Ruan Changfeng, he might be blamed afterward.

At this point, the principal also stood up, and the ethereal voice sounded again. “We indeed have a prepared venue for the assessment.”

“Lu Fan is Dragon Capital University’s First Seed. His Combat Power cannot be easily revealed. So, the fewer people watching the assessment, the better. Let’s move to the second floor of our University’s arena.”

As the principal spoke, they tapped their staff and strands of flame flowed down from the staff. It spread across the ground, then leaping like a sprite, drawing an Array on the ground.

After the Array formed, a Portal immediately appeared before everyone.

The principal spoke up, “Let’s go. Teachers and professors, please remain here and wait for the news.”

The University leaders present were naturally concerned about the result of this assessment. However, to ensure Lu Fan’s true abilities were not exposed, and known by the representatives from the other countries, the fewer the people who knew, the better.

Therefore, even the University leaders were kept out by the principal, not allowed them to follow. In fact, the only one allowed to follow was Zhao Shengming.

With the principal and Zhao Shengming present, if anything unexpected happened during the match, they could stop it in time.

After Lu Fan, Ruan Changfeng, the principal, and Zhao Shengming entered the Transport Array in that order, they were teleported to a VIP Arena.

Lu Fan was amazed. [Wow. That Skill is quite interesting, to actually be able to draw a Transport Array directly to this place. The principal must have an exceptionally powerful Mage Type Profession.]

Upon arriving, the principal and Zhao Shengming stood directly to the very corner.

The principal gently waved their staff, and Heaven Incinerator shot out a net made of fire, which covered the VIP Arena from top to bottom.

Although the flames of this fire net fiercely burned, they were not scorching hot. It was clearly just a Defensive Skill used to protect the facility. It was to ensure, even if Lu Fan and Ruan Changfeng used their full strength, they would not damage this place.

After finishing everything, the principal said, “Alright. You can start at any time.”

Ruan Changfeng and Lu Fan stood on opposite sides, already prepared for battle.

At this moment, there was a faint, cold smile on Ruan Changfeng’s face, and his eyes were like a wolf looking at a lamb.

“No matter how strong you are. If you’re defeated too quickly, it won’t look good for the principal who strongly recommended you.” Ruan Changfeng seemed very confident in his own strength, and suggested Lu Fan to use all his might right from the start.

Lu Fan rubbed his chin and playfully smiled, “Special Envoy, do you really want me to use my full strength!?”
