Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 167, The Far North

Tu Jing drank his strong liquor and laughed heartily.

In front of him were two documents. One was an official document formally confirming Lu Fan as Dragon Country’s representative for the National Trial, along with some information about Lu Fan.

The other was a report from Tu Jing’s intelligence department, detailing the general process of Ruan Changfeng’s assessment of Lu Fan at Dragon Capital University.

Although no one had observed the details of Lu Fan and Ruan Changfeng’s battle, the document stated that Ruan Changfeng was defeated in just ten minutes, and it was a miserably defeat at that.

With such might, and with Dragon Capital University’s full support, the top brass naturally agreed to let Lu Fan represent Dragon Country in the National Trial.

Currently, Ruan Changfeng has returned to his unit. Rumour had it that his defeat had spread in many small circles within Dragon Capital. Currently, many people were said to be trying to contact Ruan Changfeng to find out what exactly happened in his battle with Lu Fan.

Tu Jing finished his liquor and, after some thought,  loudly called out, “Adjutant, come up here!”

His shout shook the walls of the entire mansion.

Moments later, an adjutant hurried in, pushing open the door.

“Lord Northern Marquis, what are your orders?”

Tu Jing squinted and smiled, “Send an order to Dragon Capital. Have Ruan Changfeng put under immediate custody. Prohibit anyone from contacting him. From today, he needs to stay at home. He is not allowed to take a single step outside. Have our trusted men take care of all his needs, but they are also not allowed to have a conversation with him.”

“Yes, sir!” The adjutant gave a firm nod. He had also heard about some events in Dragon Capital. He knew that the Dragon Tamer the Northern Marquis valued highly had been chosen as Dragon Country’s representative for the National Trial, and that Ruan Changfeng was the one who assessed Lu Fan.

Now that Lu Fan’s position as Dragon Country’s representative was confirmed and news of him was gradually spreading, many people knew that Ruan Changfeng, as the Special Envoy who assessed Lu Fan, had fought against Lu Fan. They naturally knew he had information about how strong he was and his trump cards.

If someone with ulterior motives were to contact Ruan Changfeng and learn the details of their battle, it could potentially prematurely expose Lu Fan’s true strength and trump cards.

This would be horrendous for Lu Fan.

In fact, this was true not just for Lu Fan, but for all representatives from other countries as well.

Once chosen as a national representative, the country would spare no effort to erase videos and written materials about the representative’s strength and abilities, preventing foreign intelligence from obtaining that information.

It was said that all videos online about Lu Fan had already been blocked, and putting Ruan Changfeng under house arrest to prevent people from contacting him was for the same reason.

However, Tu Jing did not trust others with this, preferring to handle such work personally to be more reliable.

The adjutant noted down Tu Jing’s task, then asked, “Lord Northern Marquis, do you have any other tasks?”

Tu Jing thought for a moment, then smiled and said, “These couple of days, go to the logistics department and see if you can find materials to build a Transport Array to Dragon Capital University.”

“What!?” The adjutant was shocked and exclaimed in surprise. “You… you want to go to Dragon Capital University?”

Tu Jing nodded. “Of course, that Dragon Tamer boy is getting more and more interesting. I’m very interested in him. Since he’s confirmed as Dragon Country’s representative now, I can also send him a gift to make him stronger in the National Trial Secret Realm. This is all for the sake of our country!”

“But…” The adjutant looked troubled and hesitantly advised, “Sir, you know that the crisis here hasn’t been resolved yet. We still haven’t figured out the origins of ‘that thing’, and the seal is getting weaker… and besides ‘that thing’, for some reason, many High Level Actively Hostile Monsters have been appearing near our camp recently, hindering our progress. The Griffin Legion has suffered casualties as well, and the exploration has reached a stalemate…”

At this point, the adjutant saw Tu Jing’s face turn solemn. He had obviously touched on something that troubled Tu Jing, so he dared not continue.

Indeed, although the news of Lu Fan beating Ruan Changfeng had greatly delighted Tu Jing, the current situation in the Far North was indeed different from a few months ago.

Besides ‘that thing’ being Tu Jing’s major concern, the Far North overall seemed more unsettled now than before, with many places showing abnormalities.

However, so far, the Griffin Legion stationed here had not been able to pinpoint where these abnormalities were coming from.

The Far North was located at the border of Dragon Country, thousands of kilometres away from populated areas. It was just that with ‘that thing’ standing here, a powerful Player was needed to guard it in case of any changes.

This place naturally could not be without Tu Jing.

Tu Jing was very interested in Lu Fan, as a Dragon Tamer who had beaten both the Extremistis Country’s Princess and Special Envoy Ruan Changfeng. However, his duties prevented him from easily leaving this place.

After a long moment of silence, Tu Jing had been persuaded and waved his hand. “You have a point. If it’s not a special situation, I really shouldn’t leave this place. In that case, let’s do this. You will still pass down my order to find materials to build an Array to Dragon Capital University. If I can’t go to Dragon Capital University personally, find a Junior Brother from the Griffin Legion to deliver the item in my stead.”

Seeing that Tu Jing had given up on the idea of personally going to Dragon Capital University, the adjutant relaxed a bit and saluted. “Then I’ll go handle it now. Because this place is too far from Dragon Capital University, building the Transport Array will take some time. Once it’s successfully built, I’ll report to you immediately.”

Tu Jing grunted in acknowledgement and said no more, instead crossing his arms, seemingly pondering where the source of the recent changes in the Far North was.

…

Nightfall.

“…The nearest Transport Array is over three thousand kilometres away? That’s too far.” Lu Fan held the phone, using speaker mode while writing and drawing on a piece of paper.

On the other end of the phone was Hei Shu. “Hehe, it’s already good that you can find where that location is. Think about it, if they are close to the city, they should be able to be found online, right? Heck, even we Secret Realm Hunters can only find about one or two out of every ten of them.”

Lu Fan sighed, “That’s true.”

Just now, Lu Fan had received a call from Hei Shu. It turned out that the results for the first batch of Map locations Lu Fan had sent him were in.

Lu Fan had given Hei Shu over a dozen of Treasure Map names, and Hei Shu had asked all the colleagues he could, searched through the Guild Archive, but he only uncovered the locations of three places.

[These three maps are two Low Grade Treasure Maps and one Mid Grade Treasure Map. Not only are the Treasure Maps not of High Grade, but all three are located in the Wilderness, with the closest one being over three thousand kilometres from the city. This world is so vast, and every city is connected by planes, high-speed rail and Transport Arrays. So, transportation between cities and counties is quite developed.]

[The cost isn’t so much an issue since I’m quite wealthy now. Taking two Transport Arrays would only cost me a few hundred thousand Dragon Coins. But the major problem is, after taking the Transport Array to the city closest to the location, I still have to walk over three thousand kilometres on foot. I would have to go on a life-threatening journey without a vehicle since no vehicles had the storage capacity to store that much fuel for such a long journey. And on foot… it should probably take about ten days or so? Even using the Flying Dragon King’s Bone Wings would be a huge drain on my stamina.]

[How frustrating. Even when Hei Shu had provided me with the locations of three Treasure Maps, none of them could be claimed. Not in the short term. I can only temporarily put this matter on hold, at least until after the National Trial is over. Perhaps by then, Xiao Ye would be able to enter her Growth Period, and I can become a true Silver Dragon Rider and ride her to claim those Maps.]

Thinking of this, Lu Fan said to Hei Shu on the other end of the phone, “Alright then, Brother Hei Shu, thank you anyway. Just give me your bank account number, and I’ll transfer you the amount.”

“Hehe, alright.” Hei Shu was quite straightforward. “If you have any other places you need me to uncover, send them to me as well. I’m going out to the field again in a few days, and when I come back next time, I might be able to uncover a few other locations for you.”

“En, okay.” Lu Fan was about to hang up the phone when the System’s voice suddenly came.

Lu Fan suddenly sat up on the bed. [Happiness sure comes too suddenly. I didn’t even have time to react! After so many days, you finally give me another Divine Grade Treasure Map!!]

Most of the Treasure Maps he got were Low Grade Treasure Maps that could not be claimed right now. Finally, he has gotten lucky again. He just did not know where this Divine Grade Treasure Map was, and whether he would get his fourth Dragon Egg from it.

Lu Fan hurriedly opened the System Sub-Space and found it.

Treasure Map (Mythical Grade): Coordinates – Far North (********, ********)
Looking at the coordinate values with up to eight digits, Lu Fan felt his scalp tingling.

[This… this location seemed to be very, very far…]

Since Hei Shu had yet to hang up the phone, Lu Fan asked if he knew about this place called the Far North.

As soon as Hei Shu heard this place, he immediately said, “The Far North? Of course I know it. Actually, this place isn’t particularly unknown, it’s just too remote, so few people know about it. The Far North is in the northernmost part of our Dragon Country, an uninhabited Wilderness…”

Hearing Hei Shu say that the Far North was not ‘unknown’, Lu Fan intended to open his computer to see if he could search for information about the Far North.

But just as Lu Fan got off the bed, he suddenly saw that despite it being night, there was an intense light from a fire outside his window. It was so intense it illuminated the outside to be as bright as day.

At this moment, outside Villa No. 1, in Dragon Capital University, a huge fireball silently formed, then slowly descended, instantly engulfing the entire Villa No. 1 in a sea of flames.
