Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 179, Exploration Squad

Translator: Silavin

After returning to the camp, Tu Jing had his adjutant call the 13th Exploration Squad to his study.

In no time, Tu Jing and Lu Fan were waiting in the study for the so-called 13th Exploration Squad.

Three people arrived, two men and one woman. All three were wearing uniforms with Griffin Legion Medals pinned to their chests. Among them, the square-faced man who looked about forty had a bronze medal on his chest, while the other moustached man and the only woman had iron medals.

Lu Fan already understood that there was a ranking system in the Griffin Legion.

From low to high, the ranks were Iron Wing, Bronze Wing, Silver Wing, and Gold Wing. To promote to a higher rank, one needed enough Military Merits.

These three people consisted of one Bronze Wing and two Iron Wings, so their rank in camp was not considered high.

As for Lu Fan, although he was not an official member of the Griffin Legion, he also had an Iron Wing medal on his military robe. Once he earned enough Military Merits, this medal would also change.

It was said that under Tu Jing’s command, only eight people had been promoted to Gold Wing through Military Merits.

The Gold Wing Griffin Legion Medal was almost like a golden signboard in Dragon Country. Those who possessed it had a status equivalent to Nobles.

Even with just Bronze Wing and Iron Wing, based on their Griffin Legion identity alone, these three people in front of him were enough to enjoy an extremely high status. They were the kind of people that even Qin Shanhai, a City Lord, would have to properly receive if they went to Jianghai City.

After the three arrived, they all stood in a proper line, waiting for Tu Jing’s orders.

Tu Jing asked Lu Fan to stand up and said to the square-faced man. “Old Lui, I’m assigning someone to your squad today. This is Lu Fan, the top freshman from Dragon Capital University. From today onwards, he will be part of our Giffin Legion and live with us for a month. I’ve assigned him to your squad, treat him like a newcomer and guide him. For this afternoon’s mission, you have to take him along.”

Hearing this, not only the square-faced man but also the other two showed incredulous expressions.

The square-faced man was frank, not at all like the others who would consider their words carefully. He directly said. “Sir, I have some questions, may I pose them?”

“Ask away!” Tu Jing seemed to have anticipated this and cheerfully said.

The square-faced man frowned. “Are you sending a University student here to get some prestige? Our Griffin Legion has never had such a precedent, right?”

“Haha!” Tu Jing laughed heartily, “As expected of someone who has followed me for many years. I like how you are so open and frank with me. Do you think, with my personality, I would let others join Griffin Legion just for prestige? Moreover, is this place for gaining prestige? One misstep and you can lose your life. Which big shot would dare send their child to me?”

“Then he…” The square-faced man looked at Lu Fan, “A University student, even if he’s the top freshman from Dragon Capital University, should not qualify to enter our Griffin Legion, right? Just the Level 70 minimum requirement should have kept him out.”

University students generally could go through their Third Profession Change by graduation. However, it was clearly stated that Lu Fan was just a freshman, how could he possibly be qualified to join the Griffin Legion? Who would believe this was not for gaining prestige?

Although the Griffin Legion had never set a precedent of giving prestige to big shots’ descendants, this situation was too common elsewhere, so these three thought this way.

Tu Jing said. “Speaking of Levels, he indeed doesn’t meet the standard. This kid is only Level 32, far from being Level 70. But in terms of true Combat Power, I think he fully qualifies to join the Griffin Legion.”

At this point, Tu Jing directly decided. “Alright, anyway this is my order. Your squad has always been short one person. Now, with Lu Fan joining, it’s now a four-man squad at full strength. From now on, you’ll explore the route you’re responsible for together. Don’t disobey my orders.”

The square-faced man frowned even deeper, unable to accept the order. He said. “But, Sir, the route we’re responsible for is very dangerous. This boy is only Level 32, he might lose his life as soon as we encounter a Monster. It’s already difficult for us three to protect ourselves, if we add a Low Level Player…”

Tu Jing directly interrupted him, saying. “If you encounter Monsters, just save yourselves, don’t worry about him. If he dies, that’s his own bad luck. It just proves he was too weak.”

“This matter has been decided upon. Old Lui, in private you’re like a Brother to me, but here, you’re my subordinate. You’ve questioned my words once and that’s enough. If you don’t follow orders, wouldn’t that mean I, the Northern Marquis, have no authority in my own legion!?”

The square-faced man’s expression changed, and he immediately became obedient. He bowing and said/ “This subordinate does not dare!”

Tu Jing stroked his chin and waved his hand. “From now on, Lu Fan is considered a member of your squad. Don’t treat him as a student from Dragon Capital University, just treat him as a newly joined Brother in arms. Do as you normally would. For this afternoon’s mission, you’ll go out together. Now go down first and get to know each other.”

“Yes…” The square-faced man and others bowed their heads and accepted the order, then walked out.

Following Tu Jing’s eye signal, Lu Fan also followed behind them.

The four walked out the door together and found a quiet corner to stand.

The square-faced man was clearly troubled by the addition of Lu Fan as a new member, but since Tu Jing had said so much, he had no choice but to try his best to treat Lu Fan as a recruit who had just joined the Griffin Legion.

The four introduced themselves to each other, and Lu Fan gained some understanding of them.

The square-faced man was the leader of their squad, named Lui Fei, a Level 76 Divine Punishment Knight.

The woman was called Shen Cai, a Level 70 Hidden Profession, Eagle Tamer.

As for the always-smiling moustached man, his name was Lu Changkong, a Level 70 Holy Shield Knight.

Lui Fei was more rejecting than welcoming towards the ‘new recruit’, Lu Fan.

Shen Cai was similar to Jian Ying. She had a very cold personality, and did not pay much attention to Lu Fan.

Only Lu Changkong was outgoing. He immediately put his arm around Lu Fan’s shoulders and called him Junior Brother, saying they were fated to meet and have tons of similarities. Not only did they have the same surname, coincidentally, Lu Changkong had also graduated from Dragon Capital University, and like Lu Fan, was also a Noble Class Student.

Lu Changkong was not at all distant with Lu Fan. Lu Fan could really be considered his Junior. It immediately made Lu Fan feel a bit more integrated into the squad.

Seeing that Lu Changkong got along well with Lu Fan, Lui Fei directly said. “Since Lu Fan is your Junior, you take care of him more when we execute the mission later. But, don’t use your Defense Skills carelessly. Make sure you can apply them to Lu Fan immediately when he encounters any danger.”

Lu Changkong patted his chest and reassured. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of our squad’s newcomer!”

Listening to their conversation, Lu Fan knew that although they were afraid he would drag them down and were not welcoming of him, since he had already become a member of the squad, these Seniors still cared for his well-being.

However, Lu Fan did not need this kind of care and concern.

After the four introduced themselves to each other, Lui Fei began to set up the Transport Array to the exploration outpost, while Lu Changkong shared some survival skills knowledge for when they were in the Wilderness.

As for Shen Cai, she remained silent. She just checked her equipment and the emergency items she carried.

Soon, the Transport Array was set up, and Lui Fei called out, taking the lead to enter the Transport Array.

The others entered one by one, with Lu Fan being the last.

After Lu Fan passed through the Transport Array, he found that he had crossed hundreds of kilometres, and was now on the back of the owner of the Blood Moon.

Because ‘that thing’ was really too big, this place had already crossed over the Blood Moon and extended hundreds of kilometres forward. However, he still could not see the full view of this enormous creature.

The so-called ‘outposts’ was actually a Transport Array left by Exploration Squads, convenient for returning to the camp to rest and then teleporting back for them to continue.

To save materials, these Transport Arrays were generally one-time use, and after Lu Fan and others teleported over, the outpost’s Transport Array crumbled and collapsed.

Lui Fei looked at the starry sky and frowned. “Seems like in about four days, we’ll encounter another blizzard. At that time, we might not be able to explore for a week. So, we need to advance forward as quickly as possible. We are going to strive to explore another hundred kilometres within these four days.”

“Understood.” Everyone responded.

They all summoned their Sky Mounts.

Lui Fei and Lu Changkong’s Mounts were naturally Griffins, but their Griffins were not the same. They seemed to be of different breeds with different Attributes.

As for Shen Cai, what she summoned was a White Eagle, the same as Qin Shanhai’s Mount back then. However, this White Eagle was clearly different from Qin Shanhai’s Mount. It had green feathers forming circular patterns, probably at least a Mini Boss Mount.

Not only that, after this White Eagle appeared, it even summoned three smaller eagles as guards, each spreading out to patrol nearby.

Once danger was encountered, Shen Cai would be the first to receive a warning.

After all three mounted their Sky Mounts, Lu Changkong looked at Lu Fan and asked. “Lu Fan, where’s your Mount?”

Lu Fan smiled helplessly and said. “My Mount’s Level isn’t high enough, she can’t be ridden yet.”

“You don’t have a Sky Mount?” Lu Changkong seemed troubled. After thinking for a moment, he reached out to Lu Fan and said. “In this place, the snow can be over ten metres deep in some areas. If we walk, we can’t go far in a day. We must have Sky Mounts. Since you don’t have one, come up and ride with me. My Griffin has reached Adulthood and can carry two people.”

Lu Fan smiled and refused. “No need, Brother Lu. Although I don’t have a Sky Mount, I have the ability to fly.”

As he spoke, Lu Fan summoned out his bone wings and flew up by flapping his wings.

Seeing that Lu Fan actually had this kind of Special Item, not only Lu Changkong but also Lui Fei and Shen Cai were all amazed.

Special Items were very rare, and Special Items that could fly were even rarer. The value of Lu Fan’s Special Item even exceeded that of a Gold Grade Sky Mount.

Being able to produce such a good item, it made them more certain that Lu Fan was a descendant of some big shot in Dragon Capital. Now, the fact that he came here for prestige was practically all but certain.
