Chapter 541: Chapter 236: Sword Bearer Assessment (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_2

Other young people present also recognized Rein, appearing quite surprised, seemingly not expecting that he would be a friend of Evelyn.

However, they did not desire to engage in conversation with him since their impression of Rein was not a good one.

There’s nothing wrong with a noble heir being somewhat libertine, but to travel and play with three beauties at such a critical moment as the Sword Bearer assessment, in their eyes, categorized him as one who indulged in pleasures.

Even if he had decent talent and had luckily received an invitation for the Sword Bearer assessment, his future was certainly not promising.

“Fiona, have you met Lord Reine?”

“Yes, I happened to meet him by Stillwater Lake. Oh, weren’t there three beauties with him? Why is there only one now?” the woman named Fiona, clearly not one to hold her tongue, said.

Always mentioned what should not be mentioned.

Hearing Fiona’s words, Evelyn immediately looked at Rein with a scrutinizing gaze, as if to say, ‘Oh really, one wasn’t enough, there had to be three!’

Rein was momentarily speechless.

However, he would not argue over such a matter with a girl, especially since her intention might very well be to keep Evelyn away from scoundrels.

“The other two went to handle some business affairs.”

After some pleasantries, Rein learned that they were young people who had participated in the noble ennoblement examination of the previous session, their overall strength was slightly higher than that of Rein’s session.

“The number of participants in the Sword Bearer assessment each year is roughly over a hundred.”

“The acceptance rate is about thirty to forty percent; however, even those who fail are generally invited by other departments of the empire.”

….

Rein silently listened, his expression calm.

Noticing Rein’s composed demeanor, a young man beside Fiona felt slightly displeased and said, “It seems Lord Reine is quite confident!”

“Confident? I think normally, passing the preliminary should not be a problem,” Rein seriously responded.

Hearing this, the atmosphere became a bit awkward!

Evelyn immediately smoothed things over, “Reine, do you know what the content of this year’s Sword Bearer assessment is?”

Rein shook his head, he was indeed unaware, as the beautiful Jennifer in Meister had collected very little information about the Sword Bearer assessment, and the content was vague.

“Evelyn, do you know?”

Evelyn also shook her head and said, “I asked around, and it appears that the content of the Sword Bearer assessment changes every year.”

“Last year, they say it was official members of the Sword Bearers assessing us; merely enduring three minutes against them was considered passing the assessment.”

“And the year before that, under the guidance of the examiners, a troll encampment was eradicated, and they scored based on everyone’s combat performance.”

The attendees slightly frowned.

This was troubling, with no fixed tactic…

The clock in the distance chimed nine.

A middle-aged man dressed in shiny silver full Knight Armor came striding in; his step was vigorous and his demeanor steady, obviously at least a Great Knight.

“First of all, welcome to Mingster, elite of the empire, to participate in the Sword Bearer assessment.”

“Since time is precious, I will keep it short. The examination has two steps: first is the drawing of lots, and then comes the assessment.”

“In a moment, we will start with the first thing—drawing of lots! Then, I will explain the rules of this assessment.”

“Additionally, I should remind you all that you are emerging stars of the empire; even if you do not pass the Sword Bearer assessment, do not be disheartened.”

The middle-aged Great Knight gestured toward various uniformed representatives of functional departments standing beside him and continued:

“Representatives from other functional and special departments of the empire are also present, and they will observe your performance during the assessment. I believe most of you will find a stage suitable for showcasing your talents.”

“Now, for the first item, please come up in order to draw lots.”

As soon as the words of the middle-aged Great Knight were uttered, a young Knight beside him came forward with a black iron box, allowing everyone to draw one by one.

Soon, it was Rein’s turn.

Rein reached in, picked a slip at random, and looked at it.

The next second, he was stunned!

Rein’s surprise obviously made those nearby somewhat bewildered. The young woman named Fiona could not help but peer over and exclaimed softly,

“It’s number two!”

Although Fiona spoke softly, Evelyn and a few others naturally heard it.

They all looked up and scrutinized the number in Rein’s hand; it was indeed number two.

The attendees couldn’t help but look at him with a mixture of pity and sympathy…

Soon, the crowd began to whisper:

“This guy is really unlucky, to have drawn number two, haha, I thought my number three was unlucky enough…”

“Yeah, number two, that’s second only to the most unfortunate, number one!”

“Just don’t know who will get number one!”

….

Only Vinica, though surprised, didn’t think Rein would have any problems!

Unperturbed by the whispering nearby, Rein was unconcerned.

Since nobody knew exactly what the Sword Bearer assessment would involve today, the first one or two participants were, so to speak, stepping stones across the river for everyone else.

They could easily be overwhelmed by the unknown depths of the water.

Basically, numbers around ten were the best, as the situation of the assessment would be relatively clearer, and the examiners wouldn’t be too exhausted. If one could display some special abilities, it would still be possible to impress the examiners.
