Chapter 523: Chapter 231: It Really Wasn’t Me (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_4

As he gently waved his short staff, energy serpents swiftly surged towards Rein. When they were a few dozen centimeters away from him, they no longer approached but began to coil and hover around him.

At this moment, Rein could sense a certain special mysterious energy particle interacting with his own body.

Seconds later, the serpents flashing with white light suddenly dissipated, revealing a scene of sparkling particles falling down, which was quite beautiful.

“No problem! It’s a human!” the man with the short staff nodded affirmatively.

The young man in front of them was lucky.

At this point, the group finally relaxed completely.

Rudolph stepped forward quickly, patted Rein heavily on the shoulder, and exchanged a few pleasantries.

“I thought you…”

…

The burly shield-bearer and the man with the short staff also came over at this time.

However, they nodded at Rein and then immediately moved forward, seeming to have some task.

The man with the short staff quickly reached the site of the original witchcraft ritual of the Black Flame Church and planted three short staffs with metal patterns on the ground around the area. He then began chanting spells.

Soon, the three half-meter-long engraved staffs began to glow with a rich witchcraft aura, and the engravings on the staff lit up as well.

Half a minute passed…

The man with the short staff, looking at the empty engraved staff triangle formation, showed a surprised expression and said, “Captain, something’s wrong! When we were above it, we definitely felt a trace of the Evil God’s power.”

“But when I just performed the energy-absorbing witch circle, it didn’t absorb anything! That shouldn’t happen.”

“Huh? Is that so?”

The burly shield bearer, who was coming to retrieve the Platinum Scepter from the high priest, heard his companion’s words and also looked surprised!

After a brief thought, the burly man pointed at the corpulent body of the Black Flame High Priest and said, “Is it possible that this body absorbed it?”

“Could it be?… That’s possible.” The man with the short staff stroked his chin, thought for a while, and then nodded.

After all, such a huge humanoid body was truly not normal.

Then, following the previous method, the man with the short staff got busy again.

He positioned the three metal patterned short staffs at the vertices of an equilateral triangle around the corpulent body of the Black Flame High Priest and began chanting and casting spells again.

The three metal patterned short staffs lit up again!

Again, half a minute passed…

Still empty!

This made both the burly shield-bearer and the man with the short staff exchange looks, both showing confused expressions.

Especially the burly shield-bearer, as this was already his third time undertaking such a task, how could there possibly be nothing?

After pondering for a long time, the burly shield-bearer turned and asked Rein, who was still exchanging pleasantries with Rudolph:

“Sir… did you just see anything strange?”

“Strange things?” Rein asked, feigning ignorance.

He had clearly seen the two men busily working just moments earlier.

Rein knew that these two formal Sword Bearers were likely trying to collect the high-quality energy that had dispersed earlier, but the problem was, that thing had already been absorbed by his system.

It wasn’t possible for him to give it back to them even if he wanted to.

So…

Rein could only, and had to, deny it!

“It was just a trace of spiritual matter radiating a vast aura.” The man with the short staff furrowed his brow, pondering how to express himself, as after all, the mission was confidential and couldn’t be revealed recklessly.

Rein shook his head and said, “I felt that pressure, but as for the spiritual matter you’re talking about, I really don’t know.”

At that moment, the burly shield-bearer took the platinum-colored scepter from the dead body of the Black Flame High Priest and walked over to Rein, speaking gravely, “The energy on the Platinum Scepter has been substantially drained, which confirms that the power of the Evil God was indeed present here.”

“Young sir, was that trace of purified divine essence of the Evil God absorbed by you?” The burly shield-bearer stared intensely at Rein and asked.

Rein shook his head without hesitation and said, “No, it wasn’t.”

“Then could you swear an oath?” The burly man asked earnestly.

“Of course, I can!” Rein nodded.

“Upon the Goddess, if I absorbed that trace of purified divine essence of the Evil God, let me…”

At that moment, Rein thought to himself, though the benefits of this thing ultimately end up with me, I definitely did not absorb it, it was the system that did…

The burly man covertly glanced at the man with the short staff, who looked at a skull-shaped witchcraft tool in his hand and slightly shook his head.

Not lying?

The Skull of Truth did not react.

Then where did this divine essence of the Evil God go?

Damn, recharging the Platinum Scepter with power requires a significant amount of merit, not only is this mission incomplete, but it also requires us to pay back in merit, what a pain!

The burly shield-bearer couldn’t help but feel very irritated!

…

At this time, some nobles and guards from the mansion above, who had seen or heard the commotion here, came in through the hole above.

Leading them was the Elliott, the manor’s housekeeper who had initially stopped Rudolph, along with Michel and others.

Michel, who had keen eyesight, saw upon entering the room the cleaved two halves of Alonso!

After all, Rein’s strike had diagonally entered from the left side of Alonso’s neck, leaving the head still intact.

Although the expression was ferocious, a familiar person could still recognize that it was Alonso’s head at a glance.

“Baron, sir!”

Seeing this, Michel trembled all over, his eyes wide in disbelief.

The next second, he nearly fell to the ground in a faint.

Fortunately, several guards nearby immediately supported him.

“Quick! Go inform Count Habbs!”

“Baron Alonso, he’s dead….”
