Chapter 502: Chapter 226: Beyond Visual Range Strike! (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_3

It seemed that the figure shrouded in a black robe couldn’t comprehend how all this had happened so abruptly, and his body still twitched instinctively.

The bandits exchanged glances, their faces filled with disbelief, especially a burly man with a bristling beard, whose mouth corners gave off an uncontrollable twitch!

What in the world was going on?

Just when everything seemed to be going their way, he had turned around to find the black-robed person dead???

Influenced by the bandits, the guards of the caravan gradually ceased fighting, looking in the direction the bandits were gazing.

Among them, the shorter Matteo felt the strangest about the bandits’ unanimous decision to look backward.

As the captain of the guards, Matteo sensed the decrease in pressure, especially since the burly man with the beard who had been closely watching him now looked behind, his expression haunted.

This made Matteo incredibly curious: could something have happened behind the bandits?

So, the short Matteo quickly tilted his head and glanced through the crowd.

At that glance, Matteo’s eyes widened suddenly…

A steel arrow?

Piercing through the skull of the black flame monk?

Who could be the skilled archer nearby helping them with such strength?

Matteo was instantly bewildered!

At this moment, whether they were guards or bandits, everyone began looking around, seemingly in search of the mysterious archer.

But a minute passed.

They found no sign of the archer who, in theory, should have been nearby.

However, the sudden death of the black flame monk had indeed demoralized the bandits, and for a moment, they did not know whether to retreat or to continue fighting.

At that instant, the dull thud of horse hooves was heard from one end of the road.

A very large black warhorse appeared, carrying a no less imposing silver-armored knight charging towards them.

The bandit leader with the beard took one look and felt a dangerous presence, like facing a natural enemy. Immediately, he shouted, “Run!” and was the first to take off!

Upon sighting the silver-armored knight, Matteo was overjoyed.

“Lord Rein!”

As Rein approached, the bandits swiftly scattered like birds and beasts.

Rein, however, had no interest in pursuing these mere commoners who were bandits, and directed his horse alongside the deceased black flame monk. He observed the flame emblem at the collar and sleeves of the black robe, confirming without doubt that the person was indeed a black flame monk.

At that moment, Matteo glanced at the arrow quiver on the side of Rein’s black horse, then turned to look at the steel arrow in the black flame monk’s head, staring at Rein with a look of utter astonishment, and said,

“Lord Baron, are you saying that you shot that arrow just now?”

Because as Rein drew closer, Matteo had just noticed that the arrows in the quiver hanging by the large black horse were identical in make to the one that had killed the black flame monk.

The answer was clear.

The guards who came closer also began to exclaim softly.

The steel arrows were identical to the ones in the quiver.

But they had not seen the Lord anywhere around them just now!

From how far must he have shot the arrow?

Is this the might of a true Knight?

Actually, Matteo had many questions at the moment; wasn’t the Lord best with the greatsword? When had his archery become so powerful?

Luckily, Matteo himself was a bit lacking in strength; if he were stronger, he would be able to sense that at this moment, Rein was no longer just a Knight but had reached the level of a Great Knight.

On the other hand, that would shock him even more!

Rein was also surprised to find Matteo among the Crawley family caravan.

To Matteo’s question, Rein nodded and didn’t deny it, showing a smile and saying, “Matteo, how come you’re in the Crawley family’s caravan?”

“Lord Baron, do you remember you told me last time to come to the County Town? After considering it carefully, I made the decision a while back and resigned from Hamilton, then came to the County Town to find you.”

“But when I arrived, the Baroness Crawley told me you had gone to the Fishing Port Town to serve as Governor.”

“Upon learning that it was you who sent me, and knowing that I had been the Night Watchman captain, she made me the captain of the caravan’s guards.”

Rein showed a look of enlightenment!

Long ago, he had invited Matteo to come to his new residence in the County Town for employment.

Although working for him didn’t promise the vast prospects of official Imperial promotion, for those below the Transcendent level, there was a ceiling to career growth, so it might be better to work for him.

After some questioning, Rein learned that since the bandit gang incident in the County Town, the bandits from Wild Wolf Hills had become scarce, significantly improving the security around the County Town.

The peace didn’t last; recently, the remaining bands of bandits had become active again.

Rein gazed at the corpse of the black flame monk, musing to himself,

It looks like the vacuum in power created by Zaral’s rebellion’s absence might have given the black flame church an opportunity to infiltrate Wild Wolf Hills.

Although Rein didn’t know the other guards, they approached respectfully, bowing and greeting, “Lord Baron, good day!”

“Oh? You’ve seen me before?”

“Yes, my lord, we admired you from a distance on the day you became the Guardian Knight for the Crawley family, alongside the two other Great Knights.”

Rein nodded and then turned to ask the shorter Matteo, “Are you escorting goods to the County Town?”
