Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 988: Chapter 94: Defending the City 3

pp Leader, Mechanical God Supreme

These two quickly sparked a wave of buzz on the forums of Immortal Energy Star.

First of all, the act of ’city building’ itself is a major affair on Immortal Energy Star. Failure aside, only seventeen towns have successfully resisted the Corpse Tide and completed the construction.

This number is just a drop in the ocean on the whole planet.

And these seventeen successful cases have been repeatedly studied by countless ambitious player factions.

So events like the ’Mountain City Ruins City Building’ are covered by independent players live-streaming around the clock, attracting millions of viewers each time.

In such live streams, the performance of this man and woman was as eye-catching and dazzling as Fireflies on the battlefield.

Forget about the pp Leader, only players with strong Perception in Immortal Energy Star can know her immense role on the battlefield. It’s safe to say that with her opening up the full map view, the chance of Mountain City Ruins succeeding in city building increased by at least twenty percent.

As for ordinary players, especially those melee players who fight zombies in a Hollywood style, punching and kicking with explosive blood splatter, this was undoubtedly a baptism of their worldview.

So strong!

This strength was not due to level oppression or pure numerical crushing, but a kind of splendor brought by a high-level combat system.

As a loyal follower of the Mechanical System, Mechanical God Supreme himself was thoroughly convinced under the strength of this system, striving to break free from the shackles of the Carbon-Based and become a part of the Mechanical Realm.

The coordination capability of Intelligent Mechanism, combined with the powerful Computational Power brought by Combat Chips, formed a lightning-fast combat mainframe.

The Second Corpse Tide, the Third Corpse Tide, the Fourth Corpse Tide were all effortlessly passed, giving an impression that they were completely unaffected by the lack of shelter equipment.

Until the Fifth Corpse Tide appeared, city-guarding players surprised or rather startled these spectators once again.

Several Mechas, as high as three stories, walked out from the city center, and after training for several days, city-guarding players yelled excitedly as they sat in the Mecha Pods, moving the remote control levers, causing these Mechas to move forward tremblingly.

These weren’t the top Mechas in the Legion, but even this purely mechanical type of Mecha provided a different kind of shock to the spectators — thick oil pump engines, rotating machine guns resembling small cannons, hydraulic saws that looked like door panels; simplistic yet ferocious!

When these war machines entered the battlefield, machine guns cleared a space and saws cut down lines of zombies. Even those who slandered the Rakish Knight as Corpse King Hunters closed their mouths.

The Rakish Knight glanced at his comrades and said lightly:

”How about it, even if you unleash your zombie form, it’s merely at this level. But now, there are a full hundred Mechas and they’re the type without Physical Strength limitations!”

”I understand you don’t want to expose your ’Zombie Breathing Skill’; that’s your trump card. But you should also be aware, they’ve already left Newbie Village and entered the interstellar realm. We’re already behind a version; what we have is of little interest to them, and if the level gap widens further, even our trump cards may not appeal to them.”

As a High-End Player, the Rakish Knight does not lack strategic foresight.

That’s why he defied public opinion and traded all Corpse King Hunters’ breathing skills to Baozi.

”I’ve quietly inquired, although they’ve entered the interstellar realm before us, our peers can’t do cross-interstellar Teleportation yet. Their NPC faction just happened to come to our planet for missions and brought them along.”

Usually serving as a strategist, ’Motorcycle Helmet’ said quietly.

”What they can achieve may not be beyond our reach.”

The Rakish Knight nodded secretly, glancing at his personal panel. Compared to rewards for resisting the Corpse Tide, he valued another reward notice more.

Climbing higher up this faction’s hierarchy is his ultimate goal.

...

Meanwhile, a group of people was silently observing the Corpse Tide from a mountaintop outside the Mountain City Ruins.

However, most of their eyes were focused on the Mechas.

Undeniably, Mechas, regardless of species — crawling, humanoid, or tentacle — easily touch the G-spots of any Intelligent Species.

Who wouldn’t want to play with big machines!

But Puff, the leader, noticed a certain phenomenon.

”The Corpse King is about to ignite.”

’Igniting’ means the Corpse King is using some skill to apply a buff to all zombies in the Corpse Tide, enhancing frenzy, Bloodthirst, agility, and so on.

In general, ’Corpse King Hunters’ have to personally intervene, even forming an elite team to eliminate the Corpse King Boss.

Because only the fall of the Corpse King will cancel such group buffs.

As expected, with a hawk-like screech, all zombies suddenly acted as if high on adrenaline, and the Corpse Tide surged in massive waves.

Many zombies jumped four or five meters to the Mecha Pod area, ’bang’, causing a dent in the steel.

Normal zombie skin bulged, black tendons protruded, and even face wrinkles diminished by half, with levels instantly increasing by 5~10.

Faced with this situation, the Mountain City’s upper echelon began to operate. In the former Safe City, all usable defense systems were activated. Even the Tier 2 Energy Cannon Fire, previously withheld, was fully unleashed, sweeping columns of light across large areas.

This setup somewhat resembled high-tech warfare.

However, according to the usual practice, the high-end player team formed by ’Corpse King Hunters’ did not leave the city to decapitate, apparently determined to hold out till the very end.

”That knight guy is really a turtle hiding in its shell!” The flat-chested young woman Puff said unwillingly.

”It seems Mountain City is going to succeed in city building,” another player said somewhat enviously.

Although the Corpse King ignited, the Mecha brigade previously felled so many zombies that the remaining zombies were sparse and posed no threat.

And once the Fifth Corpse Tide ends, it signifies the completion of the city-building task, making the Rakish Knight officially among the top 20 players on this planet.

That’s the top 20 out of millions of players!

”The knight is really lucky.”

Another player sighed, who could have predicted that when he was building the city, he’d coincidently encounter interstellar players returning to Newbie Village.

”Hey, there seems to be a variable!”

Sharp-eyed players suddenly noticed five little black dots rapidly crossing the ravines and woods of Mountain City Ruins, heading toward the core area of the ruins.

”That’s—Corpse Kings?!”

Spectators widened their eyes, never having seen Corpse Kings team up for tactical decapitation before.

This was likely a variable caused by severe damage to the Corpse Tide.

Within moments, they reached the city walls. In their hands, the city defense Energy Cannons seemed like clay, easily kneaded and crushed.

Just as the spectators expected a showdown between Corpse Kings and Corpse King Hunters, a ’boom’ exploded from within Mountain City, a mechanical giant snake shot up, broke through walls, opened its mouth, and swallowed one of the Corpse Kings whole.

Then, under the stunned eyes of the crowd, a colossal mechanical entity gradually rose, each wall-sized ’tortoise shell’ opened, revealing Ion Cannons a tier higher than city defense Energy Cannons. Instantly, Mechanical Black Tortoise became a destroyer machine, with a miniature sun seemingly blazing in the sky over Mountain City.

After the Radiance faded, the previously charging Corpse Kings could no longer be found — not even a scrap of flesh remained.
