Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 986: Chapter 92: City Defense 1

According to many players who have defended the city, the equipment from Advanced Shelter is of high level, and many even reach Tier 2-Black Technology grade. However, these high-level pieces of equipment may not necessarily be useful against the Corpse Tide, because some equipment is not offensive but rather scientific.

After seeing the attributes of these pieces of equipment, Baozi decisively decided to acquire them!

What he purchased from the Black Market were a large number of second-hand, third-hand, and defective versions of Star Wars weapons, which are effective tools for resisting the Corpse Tide.

As the second layer doors of the shelter slowly opened, mechanical platforms began to rise, with a total of four mechanical platforms.

Baozi widened his eyes at the mechanical platforms, steel leaves folded under his gaze, and then, empty!

”Nothing?!”

”How could there be nothing?”

”What a joke!!”

Rakish Knight’s face turned ashen, and the Corpse King Hunter around him all looked at each other, never having encountered such a situation.

Baozi felt a harsh ’ka-thunk’ in his heart, he had only ever painted a rosy picture for others; was he being fooled this time?

Just then, Rakish Knight’s communication device beeped, and Rakish Knight glanced at it, seeing it’s from his old rival, ’Puff’.

”Yo, isn’t this our Noble Knight leader, why the long face, did you hit a snag?”

A soft and coquettish voice came from the communication device.

This planet seems to lack the ’holographic communication’ feature, but video calls are fine. On the screen, a young female wearing a blood-red lab coat was teasingly looking at him.

”You deceived me!” Rakish Knight said solemnly.

”I didn’t deceive you, I did help to unlock the Advanced Shelter code at Mountain City Ruins for you, didn’t I?”

”Did you know long beforehand that the shelter equipment was gone?”

”The Advanced Shelter’s predecessor was the ’operating system’ of the city. After ’Alien Star’ departed, all system settings would be cleared, and some auxiliary ’city operation’ machines, because they were immovable, were left and sealed away. That’s the truth of the shelter’s equipment.”

”Just one small issue, many Safe Cities are managed directly by Alien Factory, without needing auxiliary operational devices, meaning they’re so-called official cities. Mountain City Ruins is one of the official cities, thus it’s expected that the shelter has no equipment.”

Puff’s tone was infuriatingly cheeky.

”Of course, I believe you’re smart enough that even without the shelter equipment, you can succeed in building a city, right.”

With a girlish ’jiejie’ laugh, ’Puff’ hung up.

The scene was chillingly quiet.

After a long time, Baozi’s holographic projection nudged the person next to him and asked:

”What’s the story with this ’Puff’?”

”Knight leader’s former teammate, had a romantic entanglement with the leader, then was dumped by him, and went straight to the dark side.”

”Turned dark from heartbreak?”

”Mainly, the leader’s blunt words hurt her heart.”

”What did he say?”

”Knight leader said that although she was good in every aspect, he just prefers bigger chests, and that airport runway could only be a brother, not a wife.”

Baozi looked solemnly respectful, ”That’s a straightforward guy.”

Rakish Knight’s face couldn’t hold back as he glared at this nosy person, then looked at Baozi, forcing a smile.

”Brother Bao, I apologize, maybe we should call off the previous cooperation.”

”Wait a second, I have a call,” Baozi’s holographic projection flickered as if taking someone’s call. A moment later, his tone suddenly changed to enthusiastic:

”Don’t call it off, there are still areas where we can collaborate, we’ll talk it over in person, in person.”

...

Along the mountain path on the outskirts of Mountain City Ruins, a group of low-level players was dealing with zombies, with the method being quite simple, just burning them.

Thick black smoke mixed with the stench of corpses wafted towards them.

Rakish Knight stood on a specially cleared empty plot, looking at the murky sky.

According to Baozi’s request, he needed a vast location, used for pulling the Descent.

Despite the number of players around, the atmosphere was somewhat somber, after all, missing Advanced Shelter equipment reduced the chances of successfully defending the city by at least 30%.

The stagnant atmosphere lasted until a beam of light descended from the sky, landing on the plot.

The diameter of this beam was at least a hundred meters, and as the radiance gradually dimmed, a giant mechanical creature appeared on the ground, causing the whole ground to sink half a meter with a ’rumble’.

This was a monster beyond the imagination of the Mountain City players, with a head like an iron giant tiger, a tail like a mechanical great serpent, and on its back, huge shell-scaled gates that flexibly rippled, with crevices opening several meters wide, showing thick energy radiance.

A total of four ’Mechanical Black Tortoises’, with enormous metal eyes peering down at everyone, mechanical pupils seeming like an endless ocean.

As a wasteland-style planet, they do have mecha-type equipment, but the Immortal Energy Star’s mecha is at most two or three meters high, for hauling goods. Facing such a creature at the pinnacle of mecha technology, the players below were all wide-mouthed and wide-eyed—like they were looking at God.

And as the head of one mechanical giant turtle slowly lowered, three figures gradually appeared.

The Rakish Knight and others finally saw the true form of ’Lord Bao’, a round-faced young man with a beer belly, seemingly unremarkable.

Whereas the other two drew involuntary glances.

One was a semi-electronized female player, her hair seemed composed of black thin wires, and she wore glasses over her eyes, from which wires extended into her temples. Wherever her gaze landed, the person felt as if they’d been instantaneously diagnosed.

The other player was more exaggerated, with body 100% mechanized, standing over two meters tall, giving off a powerful presence; not to mention the high-technology weapons he carried.

Mountain City players looked at their shabby jackets, broken-arm soldier shovels, rebar, and second-hand guns, feeling instantly unbalanced.

Everyone is a player, why do you appear as high-grade NPC, is this the real strength of an Interstellar Player?

”Let me introduce, PP leader, and the Mechanical God Supreme, my two little partners.”

Both a man and a woman nodded, their gaze scanning these players, although they didn’t show contempt, those being watched couldn’t help but feel inferior.

The equipment is too poor, bringing shame to this planet.

After some small talk, Rakish Knight couldn’t help but say, ”These mechanical giants seem a level higher than ordinary mecha.”

Baozi chuckled and said:

”These are the second batch of defending equipment we sent over, four Legion-specific Black Tortoise Mechas, each mecha’s mechanical energy, up to 50 million.”

Rakish Knight was both delighted and apprehensive:

”The shelter’s equipment is empty, we’re afraid we can’t afford your commission fee.”

Baozi at this moment went against his usual nature, waving his hand:

”Talking about money hurts feelings, we’re all players, we should be helping each other, it wouldn’t be right for me to take your money for such a small favor.”

These words made even PP leader look at him a few times, as if seeing him for the first time.
