Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 248: Chapter 227: Not as Simple as It Seems

Because Qin Liang helped today, Lu Li definitely needed to thank him, so he invited him to dinner.

They are currently on their way to the restaurant.

Lu Li, as usual, was driving the car.

Beside him, Liu Kexin opened her eyes wide and asked curiously, ”Lu Li, can I ask you a question?”

The road was a bit congested, and while paying attention to the situation ahead, Lu Li casually said, ”You want to ask me where I got so much money from, right?”

Liu Kexin softly replied, ”Mmm.”

It’s not surprising that she had this question.

When they first met, all of Lu Li’s clothing, pants, and shoes together didn’t cost more than five hundred.

Then, at Vox.

Lu Li didn’t act like a wealthy person either.

But suddenly, one day he just went and bought a Porsche 911.

Liu Kexin knew about this.

Lu Li had previously made a profit from stone gambling, so it was normal for him to afford such a luxury car.

So far, everything seemed relatively normal.

However, since Lu Li resigned, it’s as if he’s been picking up money.

First, he got a Cullinan.

Then, million-dollar diamonds.

And now, he directly bought a mansion worth 288 million in full payment.

It’s really baffling.

Therefore, Liu Kexin couldn’t help but feel worried.

She was afraid Lu Li might be doing something illegal.

Otherwise, how could he have amassed such wealth in such a short time?

Though Lu Li hadn’t activated any mind-reading ability, he could roughly guess that Liu Kexin was worried about him.

While turning the steering wheel, he subtly comforted her by saying, ”Actually, making money is quite easy for me. You know I’m skilled in martial arts, right?”

Liu Kexin nodded and said, ”Mmm, I know.”

Lu Li half truthfully said, ”Just recently, I went to the Ugly Country, and there happened to be a wealthy underground boxing match organized there. I participated and bet on myself to win. I turned one million US Dollars into three hundred and sixty-five million.”

”Huh?” Liu Kexin was a bit dazed, ”Were the odds that high?”

Lu Li chuckled, ”It was my first competition, and no one knew my capabilities, so of course, the odds were high.”

Upon hearing this, Liu Kexin was finally relieved, but she still said with a hint of concern, ”Underground boxing is too dangerous, try not to participate if you can in the future. If you’re ever short of money, you can let me know. I have some savings and can help you out.”

Lu Li felt warm inside.

He knew Liu Kexin genuinely wanted a future with him.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have said such things.

He gently declined, ”Actually, I don’t lack money now, and I’m also working on my own business.”

Liu Kexin asked with slight surprise, ”Can I ask what kind of business you’re doing?”

Lu Li briefly mentioned the factory business over in Wujiang.

After hearing it, Liu Kexin appeared quite puzzled.

Obviously, she hadn’t expected Lu Li to be so capable, having started a factory from scratch.

The traffic light at the intersection ahead turned red.

Lu Li stopped the car.

He prepared to chat with Liu Kexin about where to go shopping in the evening.

Suddenly, the phone rang with a ”ring ring” sound.

Lu Li casually picked it up and saw Zhang Guocheng’s name on the screen.

He didn’t think much of it and casually answered, ”Director Zhang, good afternoon, is there something you need?”

”Mr. Lu, hello, hello.” Zhang Guocheng first greeted him, then asked, ”Do you still remember those gold and jewels we talked about before?”

Upon hearing this, Lu Li immediately recalled the fifty million US Dollars, a ton of gold, and numerous treasures he had obtained in Mexico.

At the time, he had Zhou Jinming assist in converting them and then deposit them into his Swiss Bank account.

However, because it was hard to find buyers in Mexico, Zhang Guocheng had mentioned it might take four or five days.

Counting the days, it seemed about right now.

Lu Li asked, ”Have they been converted?”

Zhang Guocheng said, ”They have, but there’s something I wanted to discuss with you.”

As long as he wasn’t reneging on the payment, everything could be discussed.

Lu Li said, ”Go on.”

Zhang Guocheng said, ”It’s like this, we actually managed to bring the gold and jewels back to the homeland, after all, having gold reserves is quite important, so... Someone wanted me to ask if you’re willing to accept Softmaid coins. If not, it’s okay, we can go through a few more procedures and transfer the funds to your Swiss Bank account instead.”

Lu Li thought about how he had been spending quite heavily lately.

First, he bought a factory area.

Then he purchased a nearly 300 million mansion.

Later on, he would need to invest heavily in various equipment for the factory.

The nine billion in his account seemed to be dwindling quickly.

As for the private jet money, it’s not yet time for payment, so there’s no need to take that money out just yet.

Anyway, there’s still over four billion US Dollars in his Swiss Bank account, and it’s fine not to replenish it temporarily.

Lu Li immediately made a decision, ”Alright, Softmaid coins it is, transfer them to my account.”

Zhang Guocheng quickly said, ”Thank you, thank you, Mr. Lu, for your understanding. If there’s nothing else, I won’t disturb you further...”

”Wait! Wait!”

Lu Li saw the green light ahead and, while driving forward, called out to him.

Zhang Guocheng asked, ”Is there anything else?”

Lu Li made a right turn, ”What about the high-end equipment and instruments you promised me?”

Zhang Guocheng slapped his forehead and said, ”Oh, I almost forgot about that. I’ve already contacted the people on my end, and they can deliver the instruments and equipment to you anytime.”

Lu Li asked, ”How much does it all cost?”

Zhang Guocheng chuckled, ”We’ve agreed to give you a discount, so we won’t quote you a high price. I looked at the quote before, and it’s about 300 million yuan.”

The general equipment and instruments Peng Erping previously arranged for him together cost about 300 million yuan.

Are the even higher-end equipment and instruments really just 300 million?

Lu Li knew Zhang Guocheng had indeed put in a lot of effort for him and sincerely thanked him, ”Alright, Old Zhang, thank you. Have them send the equipment and instruments over tomorrow.”

Zhang Guocheng readily agreed, ”I’ll contact the manufacturer now and have them deliver it to you overnight.”

After hanging up, Lu Li was still pondering how much the batch of gold and jewelry could be liquidated for.

A ton of gold is easier to calculate.

Based on the current international spot gold price of two thousand three hundred and thirty US Dollars per ounce.

A ton of gold is thirty-five thousand two hundred and seventy-four ounces, worth about eight million two hundred and twenty thousand US Dollars, slightly less, which converts to more than 590 million yuan.

Previously, there were also fifty million US Dollars, which converts to over 360 million yuan.

Just these two alone add up to about 950 million or so.

However, the value of those jewels is really hard to assess.

So Lu Li really had no idea how much Zhang Guocheng would eventually wire him.

As he was pondering, he suddenly noticed Liu Kexin staring at him the whole time.

Lu Li blinked and asked, ”Why are you staring at my face?”

Liu Kexin smiled and said, ”I just noticed your demeanor while on the phone; it really has an authoritative presence, hmm, a bit like my grandpa.”

Lu Li teased her, ”So, do you want to call me grandpa?”

Liu Kexin: ”...”

She rolled her eyes and said with mild annoyance, ”I shouldn’t have praised you at all. The moment I do, you can’t say anything good.”

Lu Li laughed heartily and changed the topic, ”Hey, by the way, where are we going to shop after dinner? Henglong Square?”

Liu Kexin thought for a moment and said, ”I want to go to the IFC Mall to buy something.”

Lu Li seldom goes to mall, so he doesn’t know much about IFC Mall.

He asked, ”Are there any luxury brands there? I want to buy a better watch and get something for my parents.”

Wearing only one watch all the time isn’t suitable; you always need to change your taste, right?

”Quite a lot,” Liu Kexin listed them like reciting a poem: ”Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, Cartier, all available. As for high-end watches, I remember there’s Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, and Jaeger-LeCoultre, among others.”

Lu Li said, ”Alright, then let’s go to the IFC Mall later.”

The two chatted and quickly got onto the highway.

Suddenly, Liu Kexin asked, ”Lu Li, now that you’re quite wealthy and have your own factory, are you not planning to hire a driver?”

Talking about this, Lu Li felt it was quite necessary; what kind of boss drives himself around all the time, ”I’ll find one later.”

Liu Kexin suggested, ”Find someone with good skills, preferably someone who can protect you... Hmm, I guess nobody in the world is better than you at that; otherwise, find a driver who is good at counter-surveillance to prevent anyone from following you, and such.”

Lu Li didn’t think it was necessary.

With so many superpowers, who is better at counter-surveillance than him?

His decision to hire a driver was purely because he didn’t want to drive himself and, incidentally, to show off a little.

There was particularly heavy traffic at that time.

By coincidence, a message dinged on the phone.

Since the phone was face up.

Lu Li couldn’t conveniently use his spiritual power to check it.

Otherwise, it would be difficult to explain if Liu Kexin noticed.

He casually said, ”Help me see who sent the message.”

”Alright.” Liu Kexin picked up the phone and unlocked it with the password previously given, ”It’s a message from the bank...”

As she was talking, her eyes suddenly widened.

Liu Kexin quickly turned her head to look at Lu Li, who was driving, her voice filled with disbelief, ”Lu Li, who wired you such a large amount of money? Exactly one billion yuan!”

Exactly one billion yuan?

Previously, he calculated that a ton of gold is valued at more than 590 million yuan.

This means the remaining jewels are worth about 400 million?

Lu Li knew it might be less than 400 million.

The reason it’s exactly one billion is likely due to Zhang Guocheng’s people rounding it up to win his favor.

Regardless, with one billion credited, he wouldn’t be short of funds domestically for a while.

Lu Li felt good and continued to babble, ”Oh, a friend of mine exchanged part of the USD I won from gambling into yuan, otherwise, who would give me so much money.”

Liu Kexin felt that the source of Lu Li’s money was not quite normal.

Moreover, she suddenly had the feeling that Lu Li isn’t as simple as he appears.

This sparked Liu Kexin’s curiosity immensely, and she really wanted to know what Lu Li’s true nature was like.

But Lu Li played dumb despite knowing better, and Liu Kexin had no way to find out, so she could only wonder there.
