Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 244: Chapter 223: Key Factors Affecting Evolution

The car was slowly driving on the road.

Lu Li kept looking at the sides of the road, as if searching for someone.

Shen Xia, of course, remembered that Lu Li had mentioned earlier that someone would sit in the passenger seat, and she could roughly guess he was looking for someone.

Sure enough, when the car arrived near Golden Eagle Square, Lu Li stopped the car and then took out his phone to dial a number.

After a brief exchange, a middle-aged man wearing a shirt and glasses came over and knocked on the car window.

Lu Li lowered the window, ”Gu Wei?”

The middle-aged man immediately said, ”Yes, Mr. Lu.”

Lu Li pointed to the passenger seat, ”Hop in, I’m just looking for a place to eat, shall we talk while eating?”

Gu Wei opened the passenger seat and smiled, ”Sure, I had an early lunch and I’m a bit hungry, I’ll just tag along for a meal with you today.”

As he spoke, he turned around and extended his hand, ”Hello, Miss Shen.”

Shen Xia hurriedly shook hands with him, ”Hello, Mr. Gu.”

Lu Li restarted the car and drove on, without introducing Gu Wei’s identity to Shen Xia.

Earlier, after that big shot contacted him, they indicated that having Zhang Guocheng coordinate with him was a bit inappropriate.

The main reason was that Zhang Guocheng’s ”authority” was too low.

Anything that came up needed to be reported to higher-ups, which was too troublesome.

If something important came up, it might delay progress as a result.

Therefore, to show importance, that big shot sent Gu Wei, who had a high ”authority,” to coordinate.

Honestly, Lu Li didn’t usually have much to do, and he really couldn’t feel the issue of Zhang Guocheng’s ”authority” being low or high.

At that moment, Shen Xia’s phone dinged, indicating a message had arrived.

She glanced down at it and looked up with resignation, saying, ”Lu Li, Qingwen probably can’t make it. She has an emergency surgery and is about to enter the operating room.”

Oh?

Ni Qingwen can’t come?

Lu Li was originally planning to discuss with her how much impact love has on people.

Now that she doesn’t have time, it seems there’s no way to understand this aspect for now.

He responded while showing a hint of disappointment.

Gu Wei seemed very perceptive, immediately observing Lu Li’s expression.

He probed, ”Mr. Lu, is there something important? If so, maybe I can lend a hand.”

Lu Li didn’t think much of it at the time and casually said, ”I was hoping to find someone to understand human science, but unfortunately, my friend doesn’t have time.”

Gu Wei smiled, ”If it’s urgent, I can introduce you to an expert in this field.”

Lu Li turned his head to look, ”Sure, thank you, Mr. Gu.”

”No trouble at all,” Gu Wei said as he pulled out his phone, ”I’ll contact them now.”

”Alright, thank you,” Lu Li said as he glanced in the rearview mirror, ”Shen Xia, where should we go to eat?”

Shen Xia thought for a moment and asked, ”Do you like hot pot?”

Lu Li replied, ”Yes, I do.”

Shen Xia smiled, ”If you don’t mind my treating you to something cheap, let’s eat here at Golden Eagle, there’s a Haidilao here.”

Lu Li wasn’t picky about food.

And he really didn’t mind whatever hot pot it was.

Besides, Haidilao isn’t cheap either.

He readily agreed.

Lu Li then looked for a place to park nearby.

Once the car was parked, Gu Wei unbuckled his seat belt and said with a bright smile, ”I’ve just contacted an expert in human science to come join us for a bite. Should we wait for him to come over or find him after we eat?”

Lu Li didn’t expect his action to be so quick, and he did want to understand human science soon.

He said, ”Let him come over.”

Gu Wei replied, ”Alright.”

...

They went into Haidilao.

Since they were expecting someone to come later.

Shen Xia specifically ordered a divided pot and many dishes.

Lu Li glanced at it, estimating that this meal would cost over a thousand.

He wondered if he should secretly pay for the bill later. Although Shen Xia’s salary was decent, he brought along Gu Wei, and there was also the human science expert coming; he couldn’t let Shen Xia treat the people he invited.

The three of them chatted while eating.

They ate for about ten minutes.

Outside, an elegant man in his sixties or seventies hurriedly walked in.

Gu Wei immediately got up and waved, ”Professor Hu, over here.”

Lu Li and Shen Xia looked over in that direction.

Lu Li was still unaware of the caliber of the person Gu Wei had invited.

He thought it was just an ordinary human body science expert.

After all, someone who could come immediately when summoned might not have a high status or position.

Just as this thought was forming, Shen Xia stood up briskly, looking a bit nervous at the elder approaching, she greeted him proactively, ”Professor Hu, hello.”

Expert Hu glanced at Shen Xia and smiled, ”Oh, it’s Xiaoshen, hello, hello.”

After speaking, he looked towards Gu Wei, his tone much more respectful, ”Mr. Gu, is there something important that you called me here for?”

Gu Wei pointed at Lu Li and said, ”Mr. Lu wants to learn about human body science. I happened to know you’re attending an academic conference here in Su City, so I asked you to come and give Mr. Lu some explanations.”

Expert Hu was quite shrewd and instantly realized that Lu Li’s status was unusual; otherwise, Gu Wei wouldn’t have personally called him over.

He promptly put on a bright smile, extended his hand, and said, ”Mr. Lu, hello, my name is Hu Zhigang, pleased to meet you.”

Lu Li stood up and shook his hand, ”Hello, Professor Hu, I’m Lu Li.”

Taking the opportunity, Gu Wei introduced, ”Professor Hu is one of the top human body science experts in our country. He’s the leading immunologist, an academian of the Academy of Engineering, academian of the European Academy of Humanities and Natural Sciences, a professor at the Domestic University of Science and Technology’s School of Life Sciences, a medical center director, the head of the Immunology Research Institute, and the director of the National Academy of Sciences’ Key Laboratory for Natural Immunity and Chronic Diseases.”

My goodness!

So many titles?

Upon hearing, Lu Li realized that Gu Wei had invited an incredibly accomplished human science expert for him.

At this moment, he finally understood how high Gu Wei’s ”privileges” were.

He also knew how convenient things would be for him in the future if he had any needs.

One had to admit, having Zhang Guocheng replaced with Gu Wei for direct contact was something Lu Li was really pleased with.

Professor Hu modestly responded, then asked, ”Mr. Lu, which aspect of human body science are you interested in? I know the most about immunology, but I’m also familiar with other areas; if it’s not too profound, I should be able to answer your questions.”

Lu Li had always wanted to learn about immunology, but he never had the opportunity.

Now, hearing Professor Hu say this, Lu Li didn’t hesitate and said, ”I’m quite interested in immunology, although it’s a vast subject, and I don’t think it can be covered in one go. How about you start by explaining how romance affects the human body, if that’s okay?”

Gu Wei and Professor Hu both glanced at Shen Xia’s face.

Shen Xia blushed as they looked and quickly shook her head in denial.

Professor Hu withdrew his gaze and said, ”Romantic relationships indeed have a series of effects on people. For example, when sparks fly between individuals, the brain secretes phenylethylamine, which makes people feel a connection. In biology, this chemical is considered both a neurotransmitter and a hormone, involved in regulating human psychological and physiological functions, also related to emotions, attention, concentration, and feelings of happiness.”

He paused and continued, ”It’s not just the feeling of connection that causes phenylethylamine to be produced. When someone faces danger or tension, the levels of phenylethylamine in the brain increase significantly. For example, when two people go through a life-and-death crisis or experience a life crisis together, the increased phenylethylamine in the brain can create a feeling of love. Even without directly experiencing these, participating in an escape room or watching a horror movie can provide similar brain stimuli.”

Lu Li seemed to vaguely understand something.

Initially, humans evolved to adapt to their environment.

Or rather, to evolve according to their environment.

Currently, on Earth, there are some subtle differences among human races.

For instance, people living in cold regions tend to be taller, have more body hair, and generally tend to gain weight more easily.

And for example, the Maasai, believed to be the only people capable of challenging a grown lion one-on-one, not only possess great strength but also have a battle-enhancing buff — the ”Thousand-Mile Eye.”

These are products of natural selection evolution, causing a series of subtle differences in the human body.

In other words, under environmental or other special stimuli, the human body secretes different hormones, influencing the choice of natural evolution in humans.

As someone who may very well be the only person in the world to unlock the genetic lock, he has always been in a state of evolution.

Therefore, being in a romantic relationship with Liu Kexin increases the release of hormones in the body, indeed accelerating bodily evolution.

Lu Li pondered, realizing that his perception of accelerated evolution since confirming his relationship with Liu Kexin was not an illusion.

He voiced his thoughts, ”Professor Hu, are you saying that the hormones produced by the body could potentially impact different aspects of human growth or health, correct?”

”Exactly.” Professor Hu took a sip of water, ”Hormone-secreting organs in the human body, like the adrenal glands, thyroid, testes, ovaries, and pancreas, are indispensable. Hormones affect not only growth, such as bones and muscle growth but also the development of human sexual characteristics. In addition, hormones play a crucial role in the entire immune system.”

He put the glass down, ”For example, when there’s a change in external environment or internal emotions, the body produces stress reactions, which influence hormone secretion. In this sense, hormone secretion is a critical evolutionary mechanism developed by humans to adapt to the environment. Furthermore, this is why some people may face potential health risks due to hormonal changes during seasonal transitions. For instance, mental illnesses like schizophrenia and depression have a higher incidence during the transitions between autumn and winter or winter and spring.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Li could definitively conclude that the amount of hormone his body released was indeed directly related to evolution.

Hence, it seemed that if he could fully understand various hormones, it might greatly facilitate his own evolution.

Lu Li decided to ask Professor Hu for more books or research on human body science later so he could compare notes and attempt to control his body to see if he could expedite his evolution.

He believed that if what Professor Hu said was accurate, it should be possible.

Lu Li couldn’t help but consider, if that’s the case, then as long as he mastered enough human body science knowledge and used it to ”scientifically” evolve, could he possibly enter the fourth deep evolution faster?

He felt the possibility was very promising!
